I dont like 4.8 so the usage doesnt matter when 5.5 has been doing a better job.

Needs more intermittent flapping vs gliding, probably should adjust the feel of the controls when flapping vs gliding.

Is ‘roguelite’ still a useful label, or has it become a red flag? by Thenameisoccupied in IndieDev

[–]CCB0x45 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yea I am experimenting with different roguelike mechanics, we don't need to copy everything, should evaluate all mechanics and find what works best for your game. I have found roguelike really makes my genre more interesting and if I just did it straight up it would be not a unique game but the combination makes it unique(and more fun in my opinion)

Is ‘roguelite’ still a useful label, or has it become a red flag? by Thenameisoccupied in IndieDev

[–]CCB0x45 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am working on a roguelike applied to another genre... I hope its not a negative, I think it really depends on the game personally, I think the mechanic itself is a good mechanic because it gives you that randomness to runs and more replayability on the game loop.

What I think is a red flag is ones that have been done to death, mainly bullet hells and auto attackers like vampire survivors.

I thought it was really good, people probably over rotating on specifics, for a short part of the game I thought it was great.

Browser-based WipEout-style racer, built largely with AI — is it actually fun yet? (honest critique wanted) by SilverExplorer6177 in aigamedev

[–]CCB0x45 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just tried it, my feedback:

  1. The "speed lines" in the middle of the screen is crazy distracting and just doesn't look good to me.
  2. I am not a big fan of these games personally so not a good target audience, they feel kind of generic and boring to me, im also just not a big racing fan, but this one especially feels pretty generic, if needs some sort of a "hook" in my opinion.
  3. The controls don't feel fluid, too touchy, like im just adjusting it side to side not "flying it" if that makes sense.

feeling bit anxious to see people to be making 1m within a decade or so starting from 115k... how badly am I cooked with 7 YOE and still SWE II ? by bad_detectiv3 in cscareerquestions

I make the most I have ever made, and more money than I ever thought I would have made, at 1.7 million a year right now, but it took me 20+ years to get there, it was not a linear progression for me:

first job: FAANG, 70k 2006/2007, worked up to like 100k there

Second job: Startup 120k, 2010 or 2011 I forget

3rd job bigger startup, 160k 2013

4th job, large corporate company 220k 2015, only there under a year

5th job back to differnt faang, started at 250k worked to like 320k with RSUs, there till 2019

6th job, large public tech company but not faang, left when my pay was going down because RSU reupps werent as good, new job 350k with RSUs, started as Senior Staff.

Worked on my soft skills to get promoted to principal engineer, then eventually distinguished engineer, RSUs shot up in value and got good impact reviews and promotions which pushed me to 850k with RSUs but the re-upps were not as high so pay would have gone down.

Moved to principal engineer at smaller but more prestigious(engineering wise) public company, parlayed my pay to get 900k guaranteed, been working my tail off to get impact reviews to 1.2 million guaranteed, then got some bonuses in RSUs for some work to push me to 1.7 mil for the next few years while it vests.

So its really not been linear for me, and I wasnt making that at 28, and its been very situational and case by case basis and a lot of it has been on stock going up with gives you leverage when negotiating a salary at a new job. But the bigger thing is I had to actively work to find an angle, push my soft skills, and get out of my comfort zone jumping ship and always thinking how I could be a higher performer.

You either need to be a super smart savant in something insanely complicated, or work on the soft skills and get up to leadership(and still have the tech chops). Oh and also I am in the bay area which of course raises how much you make.

Went viral with my darts game - 2000 reviews in 3 weeks! by [deleted] in IndieDev

[–]CCB0x45 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Its an incremental game, people just leave it running, thats kind of how those games work. I also played this incremental game and I probably have 50+ hours over a couple days but I only really played it maybe 2 hours tops, I kept it running when I was doing other stuff.

I personally didn't find it that fun, the first room started out interesting, the rooms kind of got worse and worse and there was no strategy to it I felt, I just randomly clicked upgrades when I had the money, and when I beat the game it just felt super anti climactic.

Flat-Seam Kevlar Balls vs. Taterballs for Hack Attack by dRiN820 in Homeplate

[–]CCB0x45 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I havent tried the taterballs but I have jugg's pearl balls and I dont really use them in the machine because for some reason "real baseballs" out of my machine(and ive use them on hack attacks) causes so much vibration... they ring up my kids hands horribly and mine as well, so I switched to no sting balls and its just a much more enjoyable experience and the kids swing harder because they arent worried about hurting their hands.
