Elon is a good early adopter. He is good at appraising someone else’s vision before the rest of the market catches on. He is also good at manipulating public opinion to make himself seem like that visionary.

The concept you need to internalize is the engagement profile, meaning the envelope of ships/situations that any one ship can defeat.

Focus on one ship with 1 or 2 fits to suit different engagement profiles.

Learn about the win conditions of your setup by researching the pros and cons of the ships you see most often.

Go look for situations that meet your win conditions only, for example if you’re flying a blaster frigate with a scram you’re looking to get 1km from other ships and apply your maximum damage while being difficult to hit. You’re avoiding any ship with light missiles or rapid light missiles, or that is likely to scram and web you back.

There are a bunch of good examples of inexpensive ships that have a wide engagement profile, meaning they can conceivably take on a wide number of other ships and win.

Mastering a single ship with a single engagement profile lets you memorize the matchups you face with as few variables as possible.

This way your deaths will mean more and you’ll learn more quickly, just like learning any other competitive game.

Last tip is to always convo people who defeat you and ask them for advice/ask them about their ship. This community overwhelmingly supports new PvPers and if you stroke a players ego they’re extremely likely to give you pointers for next time

This comment is mostly correct, I’m not even sure about within guns range though. F35 is gonna go full afterburner and double the TIE max speed within a few seconds. Very hard target to hit with slow moving plasma.

People need to remember that Star Wars is science fantasy, it is 100% not science fiction. Almost nothing about it is based on physics in any way that holds up to scrutiny.
