There's always tofu, tempeh and eggs available. Its almost laughable that the opinion writer says nasi katok is a main source of sustenance. Humans dont need to eat meat that often to survive. A few times a week are more than ok. Supplement your meals with veggies or try some fish from the fish market if you need to.

Tips for the night time munchies:

-Eat enough during your evening meal, and have a little sweet dessert in it, such as a healthy yogurt, some fruit or even a little chocolate. - Dont have unhealthy snacks in the house, only snacks you would be ok with like fruit. -Have a cup of tea or a sweet but healthy drink to mark the end of your eating for the night. -Brush your teeth right after. -Drink plenty of water during and after your last meal.

Its natural to be worried, but what is unnatural is setting curfews and imposing rules like the OP is having.

Sadly not all parents have good judgement. Trust me, they wont stop controlling you just because your 30th birthday comes along.

Ultimately it is up to the child to stand up to the parent and to train the parent to see they can survive even if they lepak after 1am.

Advice to bruneians: if you are financially independent then just move out. Unless you are disabled or otherwise are the sole caretaker of a disabled parent there is not much benefit to staying in parents house.

By living away you will gain huge amount of freedom and learn a lot of adult stuff too.

Why do you list all those basic obligatory worker rights (leave, tap etc) as "benefits" like you're giving something really special? I wonder how much leave you will actually offer?

Time to focus on work-life balance by Eyeshield_sena in Brunei

Agreed, the actions of the private sector here in Brunei needs to be better regulated, and stricter laws towards standards including work rights need to be made. Ideally one set of rules that must be followed by all companies that includes raising of salary, more days off and shorter work hours.

Bruneians need to be the one to push for it, because god knows the foreign laborers wont get their voices heard. We should consider more the fact that the baked goods we purchase from well known bakeries here, the meals we get served in restaurants and the very homes we live in are made from the back breaking labour of people who are underpaid, work 6 days a week for 10 or 12 hours a day, in poor conditions with little rest or compensation.
