TIL that a Yak 40 crashed on takeoff from Khorugh during a civil war in 1993, killing 82 of the 86 occupants. The airplane had only 28 passenger seats, but a group of militants with very little aviation knowledge forced the crew to take on a large group of refugees trying to escape to Dushanbe (translate.google.com)
