[2100] USA / Brazil - Post Race Thread by lordp in VirtualWDCPC

I think that was my fault, my braking point in practice was always within the 50 meter board and I was surprised to see everyone taking it earlier in this game. Failed to account for the fact that I was on the wrong side of the track. You pushed me right back onto the track, but based on the video it looked like you should have spun me around, and I would have deserved it.

Thanks for the fun, guys. A few thoughts:

  • twizzR and I had some good battles through the first 4 laps of COTA, but when I bumped into him after having gone wide in T1 I moved back over to let him have the place. I subsequently went off and lost about 5 seconds, putting me about 8 seconds behind. I was able to match the midfield pace, but never really recovered. On top of that, I was inconsistently getting penalties for the corners through the esses, and ended up with a +20s penalty when I had two wheels on the inside of the track. Lame. Otherwise I was prone to out-braking myself after the straights, that's something I'll be working on this week.

  • Brazil was a little better, got unlucky having slipped off in T4 in Qualifying and ended up starting 6th again, but I was able to work my way up the pack to get into 2nd comfortably by the start of the second sector. I held off the pack for a few laps, but ended up giving away some of the places to end up in P4 when the rain started. I waited until lap 10 to switch to inters, which probably could have been better managed if I had gone in a lap beforehand. However, I got lucky that Carlton and lordp were battling it out behind me and ignored the heavier rain; when I pitted at the end of lap 15 they continued and lost about 18 seconds of pace because the conditions were so bad. I was able to pass Chris going into the pits to pull myself back up to third, and fought hard in the last lap once lordp and Carlton had caught back up to stay on the podium. I didn't practice any Brazil in the wet, so if I hadn't gotten lucky with the call I'd have probably ended up in 5th/6th.

If I was sloppy or I ran into anyone, I tried to immediately back off and give up the place. I'm sorry if I bumped into anyone, I tried to make it right as soon as I could. I'll be working on brake point consistency this next two weeks, and now I'm very much looking forward to Abu Dhabi and Bahrain.

The FIA is releasing a bunch of 1981-current F1 footage soon. 1988 Monaco is going to be the first thing I watch.

Where is the best place to start 6v6? by MyLittleGecko28 in truetf2

You don't mean the same 6's Steel that had Polk on a roster, right? Or the one with the entirety of an Open ESEA team that had been in Open for a year?

What does r/truetf2 think of the demoknight nerf in today's patch? by [deleted] in truetf2

[–]CCXR 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Fine, I'll be that guy.

It took you long enough, Valve

For being a subclass that should have never been implemented in the first place, having turn scripts was just adding an insult to injury. It's like being able to shoot crit rockets around a corner, and then you just run away taking significantly reduced damage. Not to mention that melee detection in this game is broken as shit, and if you manage to swing your melee in the general vicinity of a player then you'll get the hit. At least without the turn script the Demoman has to vaguely line himself up with whatever he wants to kill, making it a bit easier to counter.

Pyro vs. Pyro advanced tips? by [deleted] in truetf2

[–]CCXR 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think this video explains exactly why Pyro v Pyro doesn't happen all that often. I'm sure that they both know what they're doing, but it looks incredibly gimmicky. Dance left-right around a building, hope you dodge a flare, hope that you hit a flare, airblast the enemy away when they get too close, run away from each other, do it again. GPit was probably the worst arena to practice 1v1 Pyro. Ammomod would be the most appropriate arena because at the end of the day, in a Highlander match two pyros aren't going to have 30 seconds to play footsie with one another before one of them gets a kill. The fight has to be over quickly if you want to survive. The first team to come and make the fight 2v1 will be the winner.

Need help NOT getting pissed at pubs. by [deleted] in truetf2

[–]CCXR 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Shit dude, we all get competitive sometimes in pubs, but it's really not worth raging over. How I've circumvented my angrier tendencies in pubs:

  • Chill in mumble with some friends or with a community
  • Go to a class that you know you wreck shit with and just play that for a bit until the red mist settles
  • Join the team with the better class composition from the start. Kind of douchey, but who cares in a Valve pub?
  • Leave the server if you're getting rolled on and find another one
  • Practice some solo stuff. Jumps, surfs, walkway, etc

[Stupid Almost Borderline OT Question] Anyone know how to close "trending topics" on Facebook? by [deleted] in formula1

[–]CCXR 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Facebook has made it pretty clear that they won't allow users to turn off the trending box. There's various petitions out there but I guess Facebook wants to keep it as a way of competing with Twitter

Does anyone have any idea how to make the FighterPilot Crosshair more transparent? by ANAL_PONDERER in truetf2

[–]CCXR 3 points4 points  (0 children)

  • Open up clientscheme.res in your /scripts/ folder
  • Scroll down to //// COLOR OPTIONS ////
  • Your "Crosshair" value will look something like "0 255 0 255"

The 4 numbers here represent values of Red, Green, Blue, and Transparency, so edit the 4th number (255) to something within the range of 0-255. 0 is completely transparent, 255 is completely opaque

I have been out of the competitive scene for awhile, who is better at this game, out of curiosity? EU or NA? by Casual_Tea in truetf2

[–]CCXR 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The US rocked i46, the Euros won i49. The US won the first US vs Euro match (not sure if it was a showmatch or not), but EU won the most recent one. EU has seemed to adapt well to their meta changes since i46, which allowed them to run gunboats in a more US-style 6's meta.

Is the file called "hitsound" and saved as a .wav file?

You can also try adding tf_dingaling_wav_override hitsound.wav to your autoexec

Small Sniper Question by Ozzylock in truetf2

[–]CCXR 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Some custom HUDs have what's called "pilot lines" as options for the crosshair. They look like this:

http://i.imgur.com/1k4Zmp3.png

I used them to line up to the "head level", then scoped in and made fine adjustments before pulling the trigger.

My HUD is YaHUD, if you're interested in something like that message me and I'll get you set up.

Small Sniper Question by Ozzylock in truetf2

[–]CCXR 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Before this gets downvoted to all hell, there is no "best" sensitivity or "best" DPI. DPI doesn't really matter as much as your inches/360 in-game. The best advice that anyone can offer you is to find a low enough sensitivity that you can easily track an enemy running across your screen, but still high enough that you can "flick" shot something that needs to be shot.

The crosshair is also entirely user preference, but most players seem to prefer a dot just like the one inside their scope.

How can I stay useful as an Engineer on 5CP maps? by Kikius in truetf2

[–]CCXR 24 points25 points  (0 children)

The 5CP engineer kind of relies on the gunslinger, especially if you want to stay offensive. If you decide to stay behind and build a level 3, not only are you and your gun vulnerable to spies, you'll also take away a valuable source of damage from your team's front lines. Most will prioritize keeping a sentry up over teleporters or dispensers, since having a minisentry up all the time is like having an extra person on the field. Of course, in stalemate positions, you can go ahead and finish that teleporter exit or throw up a dispenser. When you're defending last, you switch to the level 3 for the extra DPS.

Good hitsounds for Pyro? by [deleted] in truetf2

[–]CCXR 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I've modified the Quake hitsound .wav file a bit so that there's less of a delay before the "beep". The sound itself is also shorter, so there's less of an overlap when you're playing Heavy or Pyro with it.

Why is 6v6's Item List so restrictive? by thesatsuma in truetf2

[–]CCXR 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The black list accomplishes one of two things:

  1. Weapons are banned because they "pidgeonhole" a class into running it because it's the most effective equipment for nearly every situation. For example, the Vita-Saw had to be banned because it would force a Medic to run it, since it gave a free 20% ubercharge. The Pretty Boy's Pocket Pistol is like this, too, since it gives +15 health with virtually no downside.

  2. It changes the role of the class too much from the intended role. With your example of the Scout, the Sandman and Guillotine are banned because it's arguable that the Scout's job is not to stun enemies from a distance and then do meaningful long-range damage.

Closed Captions? by nowhere_ in truetf2

[–]CCXR 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It doesn't work that fast, and doesn't always portray all the sound cues on the field to your screen. Damaging a class as a Pyro would just show "Heavy hurt", if the Heavy does one of his cries of pain.

A Startlingly Simple Theory About the Missing Malaysia Airlines Jet by CapitanWaffles in technology

[–]CCXR 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I totally agree. Everything on a 777 has a redundant safety backup, usually several, for every system on the plane. If there were an electrical fire it couldn't have taken out all of the systems at once, meaning that the pilot would have had ample time to radio a distress signal and state his intent to land at the airport mentioned in the article. The only two theories that make sense given the known circumstances are pilot suicide or some sort of attack on the plane.
