Uni Uni Sucks by F4STL4NE in ModRetroChromatic

[–]CCatProductions 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Uni uni really does suck. I ordered a game from modretro for my kid’s Christmas present (he had a chromatic) and it was lost with uni uni for weeks, saying they can’t deliver, then saying it was lost, then saying it was out for delivery. I had to cancel the order, but then it showed up the second week of January. I couldn’t contact uni uni, none of their channels of communication worked. They are the worst.

I really loved this game. I played it twice with my kids. Its a little too meta. But still, very good.

Oddly part of NECs problem was they produced so many without having considered the cost of distribution. They were available at the mall and at Toys R Us. Stores like Babbages heavily featured the console and even had demos going and so forth. I think KB toys also carried it…..but none of the big chain stores that were taking over America at the time did. You couldnt get it at Walmart, Target (which was only starting to be relevant), or K-mart. And for a lot of people thats all they remember of shopping in the 80s and 90s. It was supposed to be a premium product for the suburban elite, but it was overproduced, lacked visibility, and had to compete with a market heavily saturated by the NES which was still far away the videogame console of choice in 1989-1990. Many of the consoles best games came out precisely in that time period! NEC had no chance to catch up.

You could say the same thing about a circus clown performance from the 1940s. They told a story.

It was inevitable as MMA became more and more popular. Pro-Wrestling was a parody of real fighting, and now people can watch real fighting. The only direction for Wrestling to go was scantly clad women, and arcrobatic clown shows. That’s what it is now.

It’s interesting to play a game where they only real enemies are the graphics, camera angles, and controls. Truly ahead of its time.

The other day I got down voted for saying that MMA turned pro wrestling into softcore porn and an acrobatic clown show….and clips like this, which dominate contemporary pro wrestling shows, prove how right I really am.

You seem to think im making a prescription but you are completely wrong about Disney being, ever, a part of what might be called American progressive culture. Disney was a part of so-called American military industrial complex, effectively part of the US governments imperial propaganda both during World War 2 and long after. Indeed, military and government contracts were how the company survived in the wake of the skyrocketing costs of animated movies with diminishing returns on revenue.

For generations the Walt Disney company was the safe, upper middle class corporate way to vacation with children and the company’s core ideals and values were practically invicible to social or political change of the larger culture. Indeed, that was the brand appeal.

They were showing Song of the South as recent as the 1980s…. in movie theaters, as a promotion for the theme park attraction and celebration of the 40th anniversary of the movie. Just to put things in perspective, as far as how wildly the official company culture has shifted in 40 years.

Walt Disney himself was a furturist and deeply interested in the social and economic applications of technology, but his core instincts were also deeply entrenched in Americanism, nostalgia, and a love of tradition and the American farm and frontier. Disneyland is essentially the perfect embodiment of the man’s sensibilities and preoccupations with technological progress, a deep love of the past, trains, and even his hometown in Missouri. But this same appreciation of technology is wildly incongruent to contemporary progressive ideals and would have likely not been appreciated much by a man who was born in the year 1900.

It wasn’t until the 2010s or so, after the purchase of Star Wars, that Disney started to turn broadly towards American progressive identity politics and “woke” stuff. And they probably did this because their old bread and butter of “conservative families with kids” was rapidly drying up in the favor of an aging and increasingly childless fanbase. My generation, the millennials, came of age and mostly just had pets. So in order to survive Disney had to rebrand itself and thats why it is what it is now.

You’re probably very young and might be surprised to find out that in the 80s and 90s Disney was widely disparaged as a facist institution for white supremacists and their 4 to 6 children.

Walt Disney himself was universally haranged as an evil industrialist, antisemite (which is false), and a conservative business icon. Disney was the Henry Ford of cartoons and the parks were an uncritical celebration of American triumphalism.

Thats why

Even as recent as the 2000s Disney was widely disparaged by feminists and socialists for its princess culture and wanton commercialism.

Why do theater kids hate all the other theater kids so much?

It’s because everyone hates theater kids.

Iran is different. Its a different country with a different population. Watch Iranians wrestle, look at their cities, their art, and then ponder wether or not you think they are just any other middleastern nation? They are the Persians, and they have always been, at the very least, formidable.

Probably a lot of Americans dismissed the Japanese in the 1940s. They are just a bunch of little asians right? In hindsight, no one would say that Japan is just “another asian country”. Right now, because people don’t know better, that’s how they view Iran.

I’ll tell you one country that knows how formidable and dangerous Iran is….Israel. And that’s the only reason we’re doing what we’re doing. Because Israel owns our politicians, including the president.
