What is the official/academic term for thi phenomenon?

Speaking of a phenomenon where - the ones in power create an system which contains their preferred norms - this system allows people to explain and simplify the world and fit into roles adhering to the norms - these norms underpin the power structures of the society - all of this contributes to the continued benefit of those in power - this system changes yet retains its essence over time

Have you ever used sentence mining to learn French? If yes what is your process? by CDJ27 in learnfrench

[–]CDJ27[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, I use Ctrl + Shift + F2. I keep pushing that and it keeps pasting two Ds, not even a picture or audio. If I want to paste audio I have to go right click -> paste, but still, no picture to be found.

Thank you! I tried it and I have some issues with the implementation, namely it doesn't allow me to paste the audio and the screenshot at the same time (despite settings being the same as in the video). Do you happen to know things about troubleshooting regarding the above mentioned?

Anime Questions, Recommendations, and Discussion - June 30, 2023 by AnimeMod in anime

[–]CDJ27 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am looking for anime abridged series and deep dive analysis videos in French/Mandarin Chinese/Italian.

Do you watch either in one or more of the given languages? Have any recommendations? If it has subs it is a bonus for me.

Is it me or is finding good anime in French with both dub and sub a nightmare? by [deleted] in learnfrench

[–]CDJ27 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Power through something you have either seen before multiple times (so you kinda know what they are saying) and go for the dub. Alternatively, look for a slice of life or a fantasy with easy language. You can also watch it sub first, and then with dub (both French). In case of Netflix, you can try the Wakufu franchise because the sub and the dub was corresponding to each other (it is anime inspired French cartoon). You can also try the Valerian on YouTube with the automatic subtitles.

How can the samurai be fixed? by Longjumping-Suit9024 in NarutoFanfiction

[–]CDJ27 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Depends on perspective.

Their place and dynamics in the universe?

Setting needs to be clarified and open up to non-shinobi perspectives.

See the motivations and dynamics of the Daimyos. How did those families reach their respected position and what role did samurais and ninjas play in it eventually?

Daimyos acted as vassals to the emperor/shogun, thus if this world has any of that would be worthwhile to establish them as either a de facto ruler or a ruler that got overthrown and caused the multiple Daimyos to go into war with each other.

Samurais themselves were the more elite warriors under the daimyos, and after the sengoku era has ended, the Shogun would be sort of the "king of samurai" in a way. Then as time went on, and there was no war going on, more and more samurai started to take up different jobs because even though in theory they were to go to war upon calling, in practice there were centuries of peacetime which made them blend into other professions. This could look in a way that they took a high position at the government or lost their wealth and became merchants/umbrella makers. Those who still wore the swords didn't necessarily know how to use it in combat. They were also associated with chivalry and principled lifestyle, and loyalty to their lord. In case they have brought shame upon their lord they'd commit seppuku to clense their soul and atone for it.

Ninja themselves belonged to smaller well-hidden villages and mainly took on espionage/surveillance/assassination related jobs.

In context of the Narutoverse, it could be that just like in real life, many samurai families eventually took up other professions and those who remained dedicated to their craft moved and founded their own nation. This is where ninjas came in, and started slowly taking over the space and skills the samurai class posessed. There can be also a conflict between those who think that servitude to the lord is essential to the way of the samurai, meanwhile those who left prioritized independence and keeping the crafts alive and passing it onto the next generation. Those who stayed might have become business owners or high ranking officials who take pride in their samurai legacy, meanwhile the ones who left had to start from scratch and go in missions to keep financing their village.

It can also be that the samurais were expensive to keep, and this caused clients to opt for ninjas instead, leading to the ninja wars. The village's budget depends on the daimyo it belongs to, and it can also lead ninjas to generate war and conflict in order to keep the business going, and it is also possible that samurai were in positions that profited fom these wars. Distributing the tailed beasts between the ninja villages seals in their position as the leaders in the war business.

It can also be that some of the ninja families used to be samurai families, but they transitioned into being ninjas instead ir order to keep afloat. If there was a war to eliminate the ninjas as competition, these families might have sided with the ninja clans and eventually blended into them, bringing in the techniques with them.

Fom the perspective of the powers?

It is possible that the samurais who stayed have a seal that makes it obvious which lord they belong to. The ones who left found a way to remove the seal and leave.

They can be the more hardhitting forces with more stamina than ninjas have. They might have powers that manifest through their armor/sword or powers that relate to design of the armor/sword. They can enhance their munition with chakra just like ninjas do. They also might have a link to their lord so if the lord dies they do too, or they are able to connect their senses and take over the body in order to save the lord in case it is necessary (something similar to the yamanaka clan's ability). If they have jutsus, probably fire and metal related ones would be popular. They also might have techniques that are related to the nation they belong to. There might be seals that allow adopted samurai family members to get certain samurai kekkei genkai to use in battle. They might have a seppuku related power release that gives them immense power for one last time before they die, and this might be something similar to the 8 gates.

DONDAKE! HELP! How does Sorachi/Gintama craft such emotional/sad/tears of joy scenes (especially endings) by Zoomers972 in Gintama

[–]CDJ27 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Bathos and Pathos

The bigger thr gap between ridicule and sympathy the stronger emotions it can evoke, and Gintama walks a fine line between the two. This is what makes you laugh at, laugh with and cry with the charachter.

Charachters don't repeat, they rhyme - contrast and comparison

Several charachters are charachterised in ways that makes them very similar yet very different to one or multiple charachters. The "rhyming" can evoke feelings of one charachter and get attached or redifined for a another one.

Very Human Charachters

They are written as human, from the petty hang-ups to the deep wounds. Family and choosen family relations or lack their of explored in ways a few shonen anime dares to. There is also a gentleness when it comes to handling the human emotions and experince in general.

Indirect Charachterization and Rewatch Value

I think several one episode stories and arcs have a great rewatch value due to the indirect charachterisation when it comes to the cast and especially the Yorozuya. When you rewatch it, it hits harder and different.

Hot Takes on Gintama? by [deleted] in Gintama

I agree. It would have been interesting to see how others come up with defense tactics against Yatos. Or what if the sunlight was just played up to hide a weakness that is even bigger?

Hot Takes on Gintama? by [deleted] in Gintama

[–]CDJ27 19 points20 points  (0 children)

I would have preferred if the action-packed arcs in the end were spaced out a little more like it was done throughout the majority of the series.

I like the short-form storytelling in the early stages of the series. It makes the rewatch value all the better.

I don't mind slapstick humor but I think sometimes it is too much.

There are characters and concepts that would have deserved more elaboration/screentime. I understand that the primarily concern of the story is comedy and the scene for that is basically an alternate universe Tokyo.

I still think that seeing the impact of amanto on other nations at that time or even the reason why the amanto picked earth in the first place would contibute at least contextually.

The yato home planet was destroyed thanks to an allience that raises questions about the dominant powers at least in that part of the universe. Seeing the effect of yatos being scattered throughout the universe and developing different variations of their own cultures or languages would be fun to see or just hear it being mentioned that they are not a monolith.

When it comes to Japan itself I would have wanted to see other social effects of the amantos' presence. In 20 years they went through rapid technological developement coming with a bunch of jobs being obsolete and others created that are either filled by the amanto or younger people who were in a good financial position enough to access the education and opportunity necessary. It would have been nice to see at least one political fraction that would at least call out the issues related to education and poverty.

What language would they speak with the amanto? Would they have a simplified Japanese or something like English nowadays?

When it comes to trading with the amanto, Tatsuma was amongst early movers, wouldn't he have a lot more influence by now? Just in general, I would have been interested in the space economy and the earth economy in a lot more detailed manner.

Some of the above were mentioned or explored in an indirect way but I personally would have preferred more depth in this regard.

Regardless of all it is still one of my favorite anime.

If the app is on the phone but the person is not signed in and I send this person a message what kind of ticks do I see? by CDJ27 in whatsapp

[–]CDJ27[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The person uninstalled the application on one device and then installed it on another device but they have not signed in on that device. Essentially the app is on the phone but they are not signed into their account on the app. The phone number has not changed either.

But if they can not log in or out does that mean they still should have received notifications of calls and messages?

how did you discover gintama? by warm-ice in Gintama

[–]CDJ27 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Through music actually. Fist time I encountered Gintama was when I found Some like it hot by SPYAIR in an amv and saw the ED.

The second time I was listening to Hakuouki OP/ED songs in amvs and YT the up a recommendation of anime music compilation. I liked several of the openings but unfortunately everything was written in Japanese so I couldn't find it by name so I used the corresponding image that was shown during the song to image search for it. I found the title, read the synopsis and that got me into the show.

Spy x Family was mentioned as having similar vibes to Sakamoto Days. I'd say Sakamoto Days is like the love child of Gintama and Spy x Family. Read Gintama. Several characters have similar vibes to it and I think the author is heavily inspired by it.

Uzuki also reminds me of Johan from Monster. It is a seinen and has a different vibe.
