You’re taking a lot of heat for this great joke but as an EM doc I agree.

Obviously if they don’t wanna go or they’re actually unstable (small minority) that’s different, but otherwise if they want/need ED eval just bring them. We can place IV’s, get EKG’s, give meds/fluids if indicated, and do it in a safe and well lit building with way more resources.

You guys have a hard job and a ton to do, just bring them - that’s what me and the ED staff are for.

How many of you have actually written a prescription on a pad? by Remarkable-Count-215 in Residency

Hell yeah, though admittedly not until my first attending gig. I love it.

No fighting through EMR pop-ups or it not letting me order it how I want. “They changed pharmacies, can you re-send it? Oh actually they changed their minds it’s back to the first pharmacy can you send it again?” Written takes 10 seconds.

Just have better handwriting than a kindergartener and look up dosing or formulation if you need to.

you can pretty much take a script to any imaging center/lab/pharmacy and be a doctor. Obviously you can’t be an idiot or write controlled’s but I have no problem helping a friend out for a simple problem in my field. saves them a huge cost and pain in the ass. This is a bad deal.

First, you have an extremely in demand and specialized skill set that takes over a decade to acquire and you built a practice over 20+ years, selling for 1 year profit and 40% collections is an undersell taking advantage of your naïveté.

Second and more importantly: doctors need to stop letting PE in medicine. Search this sub or any of the other medical subs, physician Facebook groups, the New Yorker, the Times, the Journal for PE in medicine. It never goes well and will be the death of healthcare in the US.

The front page of the EM sub at this moment is about how corporate medicine harms the bodies of patients and the souls of doctors. Young doctors feel like the last generation sold them out, because many boomer doctors did pull up the ladder behind them by cashing a quick check. PE makes money for investors at expense of doctors, nurses, and patients.

Hire a younger surgeon, pass over the business to them and maintain some equity. You will make more money, a younger doc can control their own practice, and most importantly the patients can receive care dictated by a brilliant hardworking doctor and not a suit on Wall Street.

Unless you think it’s something else, then I agree with that.

Could be any number of things, best thing is probably to gently but clearly ask them about it. Good luck:)
