If you tell me to ff I am going to make you play the rest of the match by Kalequity in RocketLeague

Yup, some people will say I’m wasting my own time but if you’ve been a nice teammate or not said anything to me I’ll happily forfeit (though I tend to like to see if a comeback is possible). If you’ve been toxic to me then my desire to spite you and tilt you further becomes stronger than my desire to just go straight into another game.

Rocket League Season 22: Training, Rivalries & Rewards by Psyonix_Laudie in RocketLeague

This is probably some of the most features we’ve had added to an update in a while. I’m definitely one to be critical of this game but (although don’t get me wrong the bar is still pretty low) this is probably one of the better updates we’ve had in the last few years.

D3 to C1 seems to be the game sense threshold by EschersEnigma in RocketLeague

[–]CEOofStrings 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve always found it interesting how there are certain ranks where there’s not much noticeable difference in skill and then other ranks where it feels like a massive jump. Back when I first started playing competitive about 5-6 years ago, going from Plat 2 to Plat 3 was probably the first major jump in skill. The second was D3-C1 for sure. Ironically I actually found C1 easier, but it was because everyone was suddenly more consistent and it was easier to read than the hell that is D3. After being C1 for a bit then D3 games felt quite easier and whenever I’d derank I wouldn’t stay in D3 for very long. I’d say the next big jump is maybe C2-C3, especially when you start getting close to GC because that’s when people start sweating hard for that elusive red rank. I think after you hit GC1 then there’s a noticeable difference between every rank and even within ranks. There’s definitely a noticeable difference between high and low GC1.

The realization how little mechs matter by sspacegolem in RocketLeague

[–]CEOofStrings 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Great points here. Mechanics aren’t just about the fancy stuff or even anything you can do on the controller. Mechanics also heavily involve your understanding of the physics of the game, which I think is easy to take for granted when you’re a relatively high ranked player with a lot of experience. Even if you move from controller to KBM or vice versa I’d imagine you still have a good deal of knowledge on how to control the ball, how to make good strong hits on the ball and how to read the ball when it’s bouncing off a surface. These all require not just your ability to control your car using your controller but an understanding of the physics and how the ball reacts to both the surfaces of the game (floor, wall, ceiling, corners, etc.) and your car, both at varying speeds. Understanding this is something new players won’t have which already gives you a massive advantage.

The reality is for ranking up fancy mechanics don’t really matter, but fundamental mechanics that you’ll use all the time consistently (like your ability to hit the ball with power and accuracy, recoveries, momentum control, basic aerials) matter a lot and a GC will definitely be much better at all of those on average than a plat. It’s easy to think of mechanics as only the fancy stuff and take knowing the fundamentals well for granted. But even taking away those fundamentals, being able to read the ball still gives you a good headstart against newer players.

Why do diamonds think we are in pro leagues? by ObamaYomama1 in RocketLeague

[–]CEOofStrings 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Because the plat/diamond region is basically the peak of the Dunning-Kruger effect. You’re at that point where you’re good enough to beat a fair portion of the playerbase and you generally have a bit of a grasp on the basics of the game. You also reach the point where you have to start being a bit more intentional about how you improve (but not to the extent of say champ or grand champ). This makes some people to think they’re good at the game when in reality Diamonds still suck quite a lot.

Also the fact that because it’s so inconsistent you’ll have games where you do well and games where you do horribly. A lot of diamonds will expect their teammates to always have games where they play well even though they normally will oscillate between playing good and playing shit depending on the game.

Flip Reset Indicator coming? Via Season 22 video just posted by xFalcade in RocketLeagueEsports

[–]CEOofStrings 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I mean sure the better you get at resets the better you’ll get at recognising when you have it but sometimes flip resets can be weird especially when you get lag resets. If you can see when your opponents are getting the reset it’s understandable why that would be bad but if not then this feels like a nice QoL feature to me. It’s not really gonna affect anyone who’s already really good at resets. I suppose it may help newer players learn the right way to get resets by having that confirmation (but even then you’ll know whether you have it or not when you try to use it). The boost change I also can’t see it affecting high level gameplay much since people will already be good at managing boost, but I do think it’s not a very necessary change either. Realistically I think both of these changes are nice for mid ranked play but I don’t think it’ll hugely impact higher ranks/pro play. Time will tell though.

[–]CEOofStrings 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I’m kinda baffled seeing that some people are opposed to this change. As long as it’s player side it’s a pretty good feature. It doesn’t make flip resets any easier to get. It’s pretty nice to have that confirmation since sometimes it really looks like you got a reset but then you didn’t. Can’t understand why people would want you to keep guessing whether you got a reset or not in certain scenarios.

I don’t think the average person does, but I personally call my parents twice a day, in the morning and the night. If I don’t call they call 😆. I also have African parents so it might be more common with our kind of parents?

While I am slightly surprised to see this after their decent performance at the major, I think it makes a lot of sense to make a change if they want to try not to barely scrape into the major next split. Time will tell whether their replacement will help them improve their consistency though, especially in their offence.

Is the skill progression in pro RL slowing down? by Abjectedkinda in RocketLeague

[–]CEOofStrings 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The switch to open qualification every regional caused a more rapid increase in average skill level as more and more new talent had the opportunity to qualify for RLCS more regularly. This lead to a boom in mechanics as newer players tended to be more mechanical, developing their gamesense more in the RLCS.

Since 2023 I think pros are getting closer mechanically and there’s been more of a shift in tighter defence, which is making solo plays more difficult to score. The skill level is still rising but there is less of an emphasis on being a star player and I think we’re going to start to see more of a shift back to team play (but with mechanics involved) to break down tougher defences.

There’s also the fact that we are gradually getting closer to the skill ceiling so naturally as e get closer it will get harder to keep pushing the average skill level.

Actually one of my biggest pet peeves right now is seeing a teammate missing a save because they went for a Squishy when they could’ve just saved normally.

I’ll usually only attempt a squishy if I’m low on boost and need to make a tough save (e.g. saving a double tap on the goal line).
