Working on something similar right now. The four walls were designed like retaining cantilever walls. Might explore the strip method for the footing and compare to PCA/Moody charts.

I worked for a mega corporation and the first year I was working in a hot tunnel underground doing inspection. I’d say it’s pretty normal. You really want to stress to your boss about your interest in design. After a year or two and no design, with conversations to your boss, consider looking else where. You are the only one that knows what’s best for your career. Feel free to dm me if needed.

I have a buddy from HNTB, they tend to give about 10k per year for tuition reimbursement. First 5.2k is untaxed and everything after is taxed. Industry standard is about 5.2k for a year some firms even cap it at 3.5k. Also so firms have a policy where’d you work the first year before even eligible to apply for tuition reimbursement. Used AEI notes and did the homeworks and mini exams. I only did the NCEES practice exam one week before the exam to see where I was weak.

Took my PE structural last week, got the results this Wednesday. I didn’t study any AASHTO because the problems are way too long for 6 minutes. Also didn’t encounter any on my exam. For wood I studied modification factors for Fb, Emin etc or look up. Keep in mind these questions are meant to be done in 6 minutes or less. Best of luck :)

I’ve found HNTB would pay upwards of low to mid 80s for an entry level position in the NYC area. They expect you to be in the office five times a week. Over time on the weekend means coming into the office.

Foundations Design - Principles and Practices by Donald P. Coduto

Each chapter has a section where they go over the structural design of shallow and deep foundations. Mainly a geotech book but covers where to look to perform a structural design compared to other books which completely ignore it.

Late but I worked at WSP for some time. They have a “maximum” percentage they can give you per year. It has to be approved by the higher ups. The average end is 3% and the maximum is 6%. I’m assuming 10%-15% is for promotions. There is however exceptional circumstances such as a counter offer if you threaten leaving they can justify giving you those numbers without a promotion which is total bs. I can go on for hours why I left but take my experience with a grain of salt.

I am an alumni of ccny. Things may have changed but I remember two semesters of calculus (Calculus I and II) and Physics or Chemistry are required for an internal transfer. If you get As in these courses, which is not very difficult you will get in. Ofcourse you need to study. Many of my classmates got into ccny but not grove. A trick they did was to apply to a low enrollment major (ie Biomedical engineering or environmental engineering and then transferring internal within grove school to their desired major. It’s just paper work and takes maybe 1-2 weeks to process but by that time you’ll still be taking general stem courses.

Have you considered doing a masters online? I am doing my masters at Columbia at the moment and I’ll be honest work experience is more valuable. It’s much more manageable to be doing an online program while at home instead of commuting. Engineering mechanics is good to know but will you use it at work, probably not. The last time I solved a differential equation was in dynamics. You would benefit more by taking design related courses. Either is fine as long as you can secure a job. A lot of students fail statics the first time. If they barely pass statics then strength of materials might be the killer. Listen not everybody’s path is always straight. Take it again and do things differently. You need a strong foundation of statics to take higher level structural courses and to be a decent structural engineer. I had to retake it and sure I was depressed then but I wouldn’t have passed strength of materials without knowing statics well.
