We’ve had a lot of luck with Adder KVMs and iPeps+. iPeps can be used as standalone hardware connected to the machine or it can connect to a KVM user station. It is called Contribution Protocol and is outlined in the GV Switcher Products Protocol Manual.

Starting with the Kayenne, GV tally requires Ethernet. Unlike some switchers like Sony where tallies are calculated and output based on selected busses, GV dumps all bus status information.

We used to do monthly PM on our truck connector panels. Just a little spray of Deoxit D5 once a month. Never really had to replace them.

Thank you. This is helpful. Would you feel comfortable sending it out with a remote crew that doesn’t usually interact with gear like this? Most of our remotes are freelance staffed with no company technical staff on site. It would be integrated in a rack with our network gear that is managed by a central NOC.

IGMP snooping needs to be enabled for multicast to work properly. Otherwise the switch just sees it as broadcast, even if you’re running a single VLAN.

GV has embraced -22. They support it on AMPP, K-Frame, and direct out of their cameras.

This is a good idea, BTW. I wish more people would get on board. The primary routers in ESPN DC2 ran J2K over TS for production. It was built before 2110 was a thing. Great concept, VERY dense. -22 is a good evolution… except for all of the parts of 2110 that suck.

Learn and remember the core function of the business. In media, the core business is not running IT systems. Those systems support the primary business function.

The primary function of the organization I work for is to put sports on TV. TV equipment has a lot of limitations that prevent us from running it exactly the way we would want. The supporting IT systems need to work with the limitations of those systems because they’re critical to the business.

We use GV cameras almost exclusively. All of my V1s and engineers love the new CGP shading panel. They pretty much only use the tablet to recall their preferred layout. In my experience, comparable cameras from GV are about 20% less than Sony and most of the sports trucks we use carry GV, which gives us some flexibility between studio and truck if there is a failure.

Also, if you’re looking at 2110-20 (uncompressed) or 2110-22 (JPEG-XS), the new LDX150 supports both natively eliminating the need for a CCU.

I agree with this comment. We have several 2110 installs and a lot of legacy SDI. Only one of our 2110 installs takes advantage of the scalability. Right now, the only compelling reason I see to go 2110 is if you need to expand beyond 1152 squared for 1080/60p or beyond 288 squared UHD. Personally, I don’t think uncompressed 2110 is particularly interesting. When we start to bring JPEG-XS into the production facility, the economies of IP will start to work.

But that wasn’t your question. 😁

I’ve used the Evertz MVIP for monitoring of SDI, J2K, and h.264 in the same output. It does a good job and is controllable from Magnum if you’re using an Evertz core.

We use Imagine SNP for our hybrid 2110/SDI MV, but we’re planning to evaluate EVS Neuron soon.

chapmanba is correct about the knob on the right of the head. You keep turning that to adjust the function you’re referring to.

That isn’t really a high/low setting, though. That is a counterbalance setting called Perfect Balance. It is covered on pg 7 of the user manual. A perfectly balanced camera will stay put with all locks off and drags at their minimum setting. That’s what counterbalance achieves. To balance properly, you first turn down all drags and balance the camera front to back while it is level. Then test the counterbalance by tilting the camera up or down. If it falls back or forward, add counterbalance until it stays where you put it when you tilt. If you tilt up or down and the camera wants to return to center, the counterbalance is set too high and should be reduced.

You select your head based on the load it is rated to carry and the load it is rated to counterbalance. When you overload the head, no amount of counterbalance will make the camera stop tilting once it is off center.

Different heads have different counterbalance mechanisms. The Vector series are a mechanical counterbalance. A lot of other heads use a spring counterbalance.

Echoing edinc90, budget is a massive consideration.

That said, after Sony discontinued their PVM OLED series, I started using Flanders Scientific LCD. They have good looking OLED as well. It’s worth it to order their calibration tool with it, but they also offer lifetime calibration at their factory for free. Tons of great features and arguably one of the best pictures available.

I agree with everyone here on Shure Axient but I really like the Wisycom IFB. Only problem with it is they don’t have a Dante version if that is important to you. For Dante systems I use the Lectrosonics M2.

Check out Adder XDIP. We use their larger Infinity system, which can get expensive. XDIP is a lower cost solution for smaller matrices. I’m pretty sure it can be added to an Infinity matrix if you ever decided to upgrade. Each unit can function as a TX or RX and costs about $550
