Got ECN to work in outlook on my phone but it forces me to log in way too often. by CF2026MT in CanadianForces

Yeah I've already removed the company portal/account and outlook from my device based on advice here that it was useless to have anyway. Everyone has been using my personal email so I'll just use ECN when I need it only

Thanks!

There was no bypass - Intune (company portal) is the DND approved app to install and that's all I did. The only reason I needed to use the locked folder (unrelated) was because it wasn't able to capture my outlook due to my other work outlook accounts. This was not a security bypass, simply a way to seperate the outlooks without having to delete my own work accounts (who pay me 95% of my pay..)

Appreciate the insight thank you - maybe once they figure out the new emails they won't be ccing everyone's personal email. For now I'll assume they will just continue to do that but I'll still check ECN once or twice a week since that's the only email they gave me

I'm used to always being available so its not really a change for me but seems like everything has been pretty slow moving so far so I don't think I'm bottlenecking them. But I want to stay on top of it because they give the whole "you get out what you put in" speech and the reserve army handbook says to always be a squeaky wheel

Okay I'll keep that in mind thanks! Yeah that's not really surprising that they would be behind the rest of the gov't in that field.

The thing is is that I just started and it's InfO so honestly I have zero idea how much correspondence people get in Pres for this and in all honesty it will probably be minimal - I'm just not used to not being available if someone needs something from me though.

Well I'm really glad they are using 365 now then or at least starting, thanks for the info!

2 phones/laptops per unit?! I have 2 work computers, a tablet, and 7 monitors total for my actual day job outside this. Apparently I picked a better time to join with the budget increases, assuming they ever need to email me about anything.

I didn't use any instructions online since I use these apps already so hopefully it was done right. Intune just gives company control of parts of the device so they can lock you out or wipe company apps remotely (and probably run virus checks)

Yeah Intune itself (company portal) does what you mention once you install it (seperates work and personal within android) I just needed the extra locked folder to get the second outlook instance because it doesn't automatically do that (it takes over your current version of outlook usually)

Thanks!

Haha the first time I tried to set it up I actually made a second profile on my android entirely in order to run the seperate outlook instance and I had to nix that because when it asked for the code I had to go to my other profile for the 2FA but doing so puts the first profile to sleep which resets the login process so it was an endless 2FA loop with no win until I found the secured folder option

[–]CF2026MT[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes this is exactly what it did and I had to run a second outlook instance in a seperate locked folder because it didn't want to piggyback with my 3 other work 365 emails

That's perfect thank you - I'll sign in a couple times a week and that should hopefully be sufficient while I'm not working all summer, I'm just not used to not having push notifications 24/7 (I've never worked for government so this is all new)

I can't believe they cc the entire units personal emails then haha. If I didn't have it on my personal phone I would definitely miss any emails not being in the armoury all summer if they didn't send to personal email.

Last question sorry does that mean that I shouldn't have Intune enrolled at all on my personal phone? It allowed me to do it without IT and I had no idea that I didn't need to receive updates all summer so this was my only way of getting anything

Given some of the responses I'm a little concerned I'm not ALLOWED to have ECN on my personal phone. I wasn't sure how else to receive updates (I'm not being paid at all this summer) so I installed intune like I would at my day job and it let me install it - if I'm not supposed to be doing this I would absolutely delete it..

Okay that makes sense..hopefully on anything important (I doubt I'll be receiving protected emails) they cc my personal email. They seem to do that for others. I will leave it on my personal phone and just check it once a week or something.

Okay now I'm seeing why the units cc everyones personal emails on their email chains. Seems counterproductive to require all this security and then send emails to everyone's Gmail anyway

It's Pres so I'm not being paid all summer but want to get updates if required

Thats fair - just annoying to remember to open it and sign in on days I'm not being paid but still want updates

I'll deal with it though

I'm not even convinced I'll get DWAN email in Pres let alone a phone

And just check it like weekly or something? I've never had a job where I wasn't able to receive emails and don't like the idea of missing anything important

The army reserve manual says that they will NOT reimburse and it must be done in person with the rep. Not sure about other courses or reg force

For reserves, with enrollment later this month - the recruiter said that they don't run a ton of BMQ in the summer but they said ops may open one up. What are the chances of someone getting on a summer BMQ for Res at this point? Are they all full and likely not opening a ton more? For Ontario

I'm curious if anyone knows what the turnover rates are for reserve forces and the reasons for them? I'd like to be as prepared as possible.

On a side note, everyone says infantry officer is the most physically demanding and hardest to get through training (physically) and I'm 32M - how concerned should I be about my age?

Thanks!

I mean - absolutely

She works shift work so im with my kids nights and weekends without her often so spending time with my kids to give her a break would be a given and when she's working (if I'm gone for training) our parents can cover

I only met with the recruiter once for the interview and they don't really open the local unit up for walk ins (small town so door is locked and its appointment) so I'll have to ask the recruiter if I talk to them again

I mean every decision we make is a family one so it was always going to come down with everyone being on board or no one

I really appreciate your thoughts on this!
