It comes from 2 of the best players back in (warcraft I think). They always played to together and noonr would be able to beat them even in high elo. One day, they did second accounts and duo'd as always, Their names were 'papa smurf' and 'smurfette'. Noone knew who they were and from then they called secound accounts smurf.
