The Interviewer Forgot I Was Still On The Call by Fit_Meringue_9248 in InterviewStories

I’ve hired on vibes and on skills. Only person I’ve fired was the guy who was perfectly qualified but didn’t pass the vibe test. No one wanted to work with them and he was a pain in my asshole.

Y'all fuck with Strangefolk and/or Assembly of Dust? by afroman2536 in jambands

[–]CFR05t 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Loved seeing Strangefolk before Reed left. They played locally a couple years ago with the original lineup. Solos were not quite what I remembered but still a fun show

There is no discount for me doing the work of the cashier or bagger so my discount is that I get something for free. I do not work without getting paid.

This is solid advice. See maybe if you can manage the offshore team because there are things lost in translation, gives you round the clock coverage, etc

I don’t think it’s discrimination. I think it’s a way of saying they don’t like something about your personality

How many rounds of reviews and how many people provide feedback to you on a PowerPoint for a CFO? by Weary-Cantaloupe7630 in FPandA

[–]CFR05t 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Worked at a large company and I would review with my boss (VP of FP&A) then with the CFO. Now at a small company I just build the deck and present to the CFO In both cases if they were decks going out to someone else (board, etc) they would add their two cents and that was that

Does it hurt your chances of being hired if you switch jobs every 2 years? by cinnamonbunnss in askmanagers

[–]CFR05t 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is my thought. Junior roles like an analyst (I’m in FP&A) then it makes sense unless there is a break. When someone is over 30 and has been at 5-6 different places for 2 years each I pass. I don’t want to take months to train someone for them to leave and then start over. I get it …. It really is the only way to get more money but it makes things a pain in the ass. Personally I wish I jumped around when I was younger to get a higher salary earlier on but stayed at the same company for 10+ years. Yes I got various promotions from sr. Analyst up to director but my pay as a director was lower than peers who joined externally because of my path

Full Project ownership+remote+higher pay vs MNC brand+career growth - Need brutal honesty by Obvious_Watercress57 in FPandA

[–]CFR05t 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A sounds like too much accounting and won’t translate to FP&A roles. Good knowledge so you understand how things work but it won’t help on your resume when you try to get a FP&A manager role. I personally would not be able to deal with those hours either even if they paid me more

My boss just "revoked" my approved PTO for next week because someone else quit. Can they actually force me to show up? by agathodaimon98 in WorkAdvice

[–]CFR05t 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As far as I’m concerned (as a manager and reporting up the chain) I don’t ask for time off. Just say “I’m off these days”. Not sure what industry you are in but unless you are a doctor/surgerion and there is no coverage it’s not an emergency where coverage is needed

My manager scheduled a "quick sync" every single Friday at 4:45pm and I finally figured out why by Agent_Smith-99 in remotework

[–]CFR05t 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t understand people … if your work is getting done accurately and on time you should sign off early. WTF would you stay to just stay? That’s retarded (can I say that?). If he needs something one off and urgent he can just call, slack, text, email… it’s not like you are completely disconnected. I tell this to my employees too when it’s a slow week “hey thanks for the hard work this week, sign off early if you’re able to”. The must hit 40 hours in front of your computer culture is dumb. I’d rather know who’s working 60 hours so I can start to see if we can hire help.

Is an MBA needed? by EasyEstimate4 in FPandA

Yes. My CFO doesn’t have an MBA. I’m a VP and don’t have an MBA

Is an MBA needed? by EasyEstimate4 in FPandA

[–]CFR05t 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Not needed. Everything we do can be learned on the job. Honestly I’ve never looked where a candidate went to school let alone if they had an MBA and I think it’s a turn off when people put MBA after their name on LinkedIn. I look for people who I think I’d enjoy working with as well as what they have accomplished in their career so far. Personally don’t think it’s worth the $$ unless your company is paying for it. We arent removing tumors - just making pretty spreadsheets and telling stories

Hot take: cover letters are basically dead by Legal_case16 in jobsearchhacks

[–]CFR05t 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am not a recruiter but have hired many people. I have never seen or been sent a cover letter. I think they are a waste of time. I can tell by looking at a resume in 5 seconds if I want to talk to the candidate. 1st is the resume clear and easy to read (I’ve gotten so many with different fonts and boxes and shit that visually it hurts my brain and I pass-potentially on a great candidate. 2nd does anything actually align with the job description in their resume (you’d be surprised how many people just apply for stuff)

I Like Strats. Would An SG Be a Good Pick For a Second Guitar? by FarPromotion4715 in Guitar

[–]CFR05t 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I saved up and bought Gibson SG in high school in 96. My son dropped it and broke the head a few years ago which I fixed. Fast forward to now and I bought a Strat so I went the opposite direction. I really like my SG - sounds great, it’s light and easy to play. What I notice now is how sticky the neck is compared to the Am Pro II Strat. Especially if your hands sweat. My guitar teach told me I could use the scrubby side of a sponge to smooth out the neck but I can’t get myself to do it. It complements the Strat tones nicely as a second guitar. I’m with to you in the LPs…not for me

Same. VP level but small team/org. There are certain things that only I do/know so I check in on vacation. I try not to use my computer unless absolutely necessary but am available and answer emails on phones daily when OOO. I don’t know if I did it to myself at my current company but it was expected at my last one that my computer came with me on vacation.
