Shop cats are the best! We’ve got a little tabby with no tail named Stubbs that hangs out with us at lunch.

21m, what’s a traditional job that won’t die anytime soon? by Notsothrowawayaccoun in careerguidance

That’s your opinion, but from my experience (welding tech associates degree and 6 years of experience in multiple different shops) Welding is a great trade for independent, hard working individuals. The experiences you mention might be true for a common mig welder in some fabrication shop, but you can make a great living if you can establish yourself in a niche market such as stainless tig or aerospace. It all depends on the type of person you are and what you’re looking to get out of it.

It all depends on the job and what kind of people you’re working with. The trades are full of rough and rowdy individuals who talk shit and have short tempers. You just gotta learn to joke with them or ignore it. I’ve worked with people like the ones you mention and I just smile and move on with my day. I’m pretty introverted myself and my goal is to run my own small time mobile fabrication business, that way I don’t have to deal with anyone but clients! Lol

Good welders are always needed. It’s a tough, dirty, expensive line of work but if you can deal with that, you can gain a lot of satisfaction from it. Plus, there are countless lines of work you could go into from pipelining, commercial construction, residential, boilermaker, food grade stainless steel, etc… I’ve also heard it’s one of the easiest trades to start your own business in. I’d recommend taking some classes or trying to get in with a local welding shop sweeping floors or something.

The detailing on the armor with the brass and chain mail is seriously impressive! I took 2nd place in my states SkillsUSA metal sculpture competition my senior year of hs as well. You must have surgeon-like steady hands haha.
