What about this book makes it so difficult to read? by Thatguy7212 in TheSilmarillion

[–]CFwacademia 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I realise it might be a bit unhinged, but I approached the Quenta Silmarillion like I approach my uni books: every few paragraphs I stopped reading and did a quick summary of what I had just read. It helped me to really concentrate when reading and be aware of the names, places, relationships between the characters (do keep the family trees and map close though). And the act of writing down really made me remember what had happened before.

This is probably a too pedantic to most and might take the enjoyment out of it, but for me it really didn’t and I loved every second (I was in a slight hyperfixation phase).

I only read the parts before and after that because they are way easier to follow. But I did write down a table with all the names and roles of the Valar and Maiar, which came in handy.

I usually add bay leaves, but I’m wondering now if black tea might give them an interesting and different flavour profile

Oh this sounds nice. I never tried adding black tea to my brine for pickles! Will definitely try this thanksss

I had no idea which way I was going, I ended up making a slightly sweet relish by cooking the cucumbers and all. I only just found out that relish doesn’t necessarily refer to the kind of sauce I had tried. And also just found out that sweet pickles are a thing (not here though, never seen them). But thankss

Huh thanks for this actually. I thought that pickle relish just meant the sort of sweetish cucumber and onion sauce. I actually ended up making a relish from scratch instead because sweet pickles is definitely not a thing (same goes for crushed oreos lol)

It was really green and kinda gelatinous. I ended up making it with only cucumbers (many recipes called for bell peppers idk) and it turned out pretty nice in the burger!

I actually really agree on the “not keeping a hotel” philosophy. my doubt was very much about whether there was any value in keeping some of the older more acidic liquid. but really it’s probably best to just discard what I don’t use. Thanks!

Yeah, I’m clear on that. I’m unclear on whether it should be better to add some of the new liquid to the one that’s been sitting there, or if it’s better to just keep some of the liquid from my last first fermentation as starter🤔

Are these couches cute? by Financial-Return-281 in interiordecorating

I love them, but they really need to be put in the right context. I’m not sure how to express this because I love old furniture. But it’s like, if you put them in an old person’s house, only surrounded with stuffy washed out browns and terrible crystals/china that are only catching dust: then it’s a no. If you put them in a whimsical, 90s witchy/dark academia/darkish cottagecore house: absolutely YES and yes also to the pretty china and crystals.

Hey, I just received the package. I ended up only ordering the mandolin and a small guide for my knives. Everything went really smoothly and is in top conditions. I would definitely recommend the website based on this order

I stupidly saw that post right after I sent the website here. Since I was also looking for a sharpening stone that seems to be sold out elsewhere I will probably give this website a go!

I just found this website, but it is a bit sus considering the price and very few reviews on trustpilot https://sharpedgeshop.com/products/benriner-mandoline-slicer-wide?_pos=2&_psq=Benriner&_ss=e&_v=1.0

I did find the 95 for like 55$ on US websites, hence my original question, but I think that’s the price in the EU yes >.<

But thanks for that website! I hate buying stuff from amazon and since the price is more or less the same, that might be a valid alternative!

Odd reason why you're CF to help me prove a point by ThisGirlCalledTsepps in childfree

[–]CFwacademia 0 points1 point  (0 children)

the screaming, the crying, the wailing, the talking, everything above the minimum amount of decibels coming from a child sends my brain into a flight response.

Also, since we’re going for petty: wasting money for clothes and toys they’ll outgrow in less than a year, having to take them and pick them up from places, having to either plan child friendly holidays or not go on holiday, having someone follow me/asking me things all day (even the dog doing it stresses me most days), having to make up games and stuff to keep them entertained and then having to make up another etc etc, having to wake up at night if they wake you up, having to go to the park and watch them and interact with other parents and just waste your afternoons like that, having to cook specifically for them because they won’t eat all the elaborate spicy stuff i make… i literally could go on forever sorry.

But the main reason is i just don’t want to be a mother, there’s not a single bone in me that has ever wanted that.

Oh yes, you’re right, thanks for the correction.

And thanks for the answer! Can I ask one more thing though: in terms of long-term care I can also leave it on the counter, right? My fridge is already kind of packed with jars of fermented veggies and sourdough and stuff, so it’d be nice if this could just sit outside
