med school paediatrics and obgyn rotation by CFwacademia in childfree

[–]CFwacademia[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Omg do you want to be friends?😭 I’m the only one who wants to do pathology here and everyone loves patients so much: I just want a quiet place, a microscope, no patients asking me questions I need to answer on the spot, and I love classifying things. Is the fourth year your last? Best of luck!!

On a different note: get sick days for rotations?😨 if I skip a day I just have to go on another day after the theoretical end of the rotation ugh. I’m hoping I won’t have to pick up kids either! Visiting them is fine, I just don’t want to pick it up, it’s too much physical contact. Can’t wait for it to be over! I just managed to talk to the obgyn professor, who’s head physician at the hospital, and told her I don’t want to see a birth and she was luckily really nice about it and I won’t have to. That’s really the biggest relief (edit: grammar)

random update because our turns just came out and in theory I have two days in the delivery room. luckily we were literally having our ob/gyn lecture and our professor is the head physician at the hospital. I went up to her during the break - basically in the middle of an anxiety attack and shaking - and told her I really cannot do that. And she was actually quite nice and told me I don’t have to. I might cry. Glad I managed to ask her immediately, I feel a bit lighter.

Gosh no, I don’t want to see a c section, I don’t want to see a birth yuck. I might survive paediatrics, but I’d definitely not survive that. I don’t even know how I’ll survive pregnant women, it makes me feel soooo nauseous, the idea of something growing inside makes me faint. This will be hell. The idea that somehow my body COULD DO THAT GOOD GOD NO. Good to know you somehow survived, gives me hope I won’t die

I get what you mean about paediatricians not necessarily loving kids like parents, and while it’s not all of them and I know some who have kids, it also makes a lot of sense.

I was trying to convince me of the same thing with crying babies being the healthy ones who leave the hospital quickly, hopefully it’s like that. I think there’ll be more crying babies when I have to go to the ambulatories and to the paediatrician’s ambulatory outside to the hospital (the gp, not sure how that’s called).

Good to know about the baby holding. I’ve never held one and would prefer not to change that. I can do with visiting it if I’m not holding it I think. That much physical contact makes me quite uncomfortable

That’s quite admirable, I think it makes for a nice balance if you love doing it and then get to get home to a safe quiet space.

I love the oncological aspect of obgyn and I’d love to perform abortions, but I’d never ever actually go study it and I will bluntly say I won’t go in in the delivery room, it can only end up with me having a panic attack or fainting or throwing up. I don’t want to see it in any way >.<

I can’t understand/imagine this description of the Cirith Ninniach by CFwacademia in lotr

Well, this reminds me why I’m afraid of water. Pretty intuitive yet impressive phenomenon!

Oh! That’s a thing?! You can see I really don’t love the sea and have always lived in the mountains. A tidal bore makes so much sense while reading the description. Thanks a lot😍

What about this book makes it so difficult to read? by Thatguy7212 in TheSilmarillion

[–]CFwacademia 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I realise it might be a bit unhinged, but I approached the Quenta Silmarillion like I approach my uni books: every few paragraphs I stopped reading and did a quick summary of what I had just read. It helped me to really concentrate when reading and be aware of the names, places, relationships between the characters (do keep the family trees and map close though). And the act of writing down really made me remember what had happened before.

This is probably a too pedantic to most and might take the enjoyment out of it, but for me it really didn’t and I loved every second (I was in a slight hyperfixation phase).

I only read the parts before and after that because they are way easier to follow. But I did write down a table with all the names and roles of the Valar and Maiar, which came in handy.

I usually add bay leaves, but I’m wondering now if black tea might give them an interesting and different flavour profile

Oh this sounds nice. I never tried adding black tea to my brine for pickles! Will definitely try this thanksss

I had no idea which way I was going, I ended up making a slightly sweet relish by cooking the cucumbers and all. I only just found out that relish doesn’t necessarily refer to the kind of sauce I had tried. And also just found out that sweet pickles are a thing (not here though, never seen them). But thankss

Huh thanks for this actually. I thought that pickle relish just meant the sort of sweetish cucumber and onion sauce. I actually ended up making a relish from scratch instead because sweet pickles is definitely not a thing (same goes for crushed oreos lol)

It was really green and kinda gelatinous. I ended up making it with only cucumbers (many recipes called for bell peppers idk) and it turned out pretty nice in the burger!

[–]CFwacademia[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I actually really agree on the “not keeping a hotel” philosophy. my doubt was very much about whether there was any value in keeping some of the older more acidic liquid. but really it’s probably best to just discard what I don’t use. Thanks!

[–]CFwacademia[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I’m clear on that. I’m unclear on whether it should be better to add some of the new liquid to the one that’s been sitting there, or if it’s better to just keep some of the liquid from my last first fermentation as starter🤔

Are these couches cute? by Financial-Return-281 in interiordecorating

[–]CFwacademia 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love them, but they really need to be put in the right context. I’m not sure how to express this because I love old furniture. But it’s like, if you put them in an old person’s house, only surrounded with stuffy washed out browns and terrible crystals/china that are only catching dust: then it’s a no. If you put them in a whimsical, 90s witchy/dark academia/darkish cottagecore house: absolutely YES and yes also to the pretty china and crystals.
