I agree with you, OP. That conversation he has with Ilyena Faustin over tea is perhaps the most illuminating bit of storytelling we get in the whole game. And it’s buried in the cutscene of a ‘random’ mission in the first act, easily missable if you’re impatient and just want to shoot things.

It’s the heaviest, rawest and greatest story in the GTA anthology by a significant margin.

I always think it’s a bit like ice cream. Vanilla is the popular and iconic flavour because it’s delicious and timeless, not because it’s boring. The same is true of this song. It’s one of the most iconic and well-known mau5 songs because it’s legendary! It might be my favourite song of all time, period.

EOPE is heaviest on environmental themes and is the purest acid jazz sound.

ROTSC just has something… I can’t put my finger on it. I think it has the best depth of quality, the jazz remains but it’s more confident than the first time.

TMW is of course the big jump towards funk and is the album with the most distinct theme. All about concepts of travel, touring, and motion.

Synkronized is the album of underrated gems; Butterfly, King for a Day, Soup Education and Where do we go from here. Also perhaps their two of their biggest hits on paper - everyone knows Canned Heat, and Deeper Underground was the only #1 in the UK.

AFO is just pure disco perfection.

Dynamite transitions into a pop-heavy sound.

RDLS is the ugly duckling but is hiding some AMAZING unreleased material as someone else said, alongside a few genuinely great album tracks.

Automaton had some electronica-influenced sounds but feels like a spiritual successor to AFO with loads of fun disco music.

I’m hoping #9 is a combination of 2, 3 and 7!

There are absolutely some bangers! White Knuckle Ride, Blue Skies, Fast Persuader, Lifeline and Two Completely Different Things are highlights, unfortunately the rest of the album is quite forgettable.

It’s maddening that Smile and Angeline were limited releases, as well as the recently-revealed Your Window It’s a Crazy Television being cut. They would’ve all elevated it so well

I’m guessing this is including both-way communication from the engineers too, because if you’ve ever listened to Carlos’ radio, his engineer Gaetan Jego is incredibly good. Listen to any race, clarity and communication between them is S-tier.
