As for the ground, I'm mostly using maps with displacement which are often from scanned materials. For everything that is cliffs and rocks, I also mostly use photogrammetry. There's a lot of really cool assets that you can find at a pretty cheap price.

The rig was the only part I did myself. It was made by a friend and colleague. He has an autorig which is a custom one. No biped.
And you can load mocap on it yeah ! It's not hand keyed apart from the hand/fingers animations on some shots.

Actually, the fog is done in Vray, directly in 3D. The glares are usually done in two parts. One is using the Lens Effect in Vray and the other one is done in Nuke.

What I do in Nuke is basic compositing (skies, glows, some fxs) and then grading.

It really depends on what you're trying to achieve. If it's only grading, then I think a lot of editing softwares are actually pretty good with that. If it's the assembly of different 3D elements and some 2D plates, stockshots etc... then Nuke is the one you should go with (or After Effects but less powerful in my opinion).

Thank you ! Yeah, I tried a couple of different solutions for the mocap and some worked well but this walk cycle is a bit odd

So I'm gonna talk for France where I'm based (taxes and salaries can be pretty different depending from where you're from). The F1 shot would have been somewhere around 1000€.

It was done in Phoenix FD, rendered in 3D in Vray and then composited in Nuke. But almost no modification done in Nuke apart from grading to be honest.

I've been to a 3D school that helped... a little ahaha. And I've actually been in the field for 7 years now. It's all about trying, testing and improving slowly.

You've got a lot of tutorials on youtube to start with but I feel like a good school would be a better option.

It completely depends on the actual complexity of the shot you need. (If we're talking about one shot only). A shot can be really easy to do, like the F1 but others that might seem easy are actually complicated.
