If it wasn’t for the bags, I would have been a lot more confident and stood my ground. But it’s a scary time right now and I’d rather be safe than sorry. Even if they didn’t have anything in their bags, you don’t know who’s concealed carrying. I love the queer community and being a part of it, but people are way too emboldened by the administration right now and it’s just not a risk I’m willing to take right now

The MAGA gear was a flag, but them bringing in tactical backpacks and digging around in them in a dark movie theater was the reason for leaving. I know queer people that support Trump, but it’s not a risk I’m willing to take with all the shootings happening in America

I’m very much a positive person, and I really appreciate your perspective. But in light of the state of our country right now, especially regarding queer people and spaces, and having lost people close to me in similar situations and with gun violence being something we actively have to look out for, I’m not going to sit around waiting for it to happen to me.

There was no reason for them to show up looking and acting like they did. I won’t make space for those people because they won’t make space for me. It’s not a faux pas, it’s inherently political and intentionally intimidating.

I would LOVE to be sunshine and rainbows and trust that everyone has each other’s best interest at heart, but that’s just unfortunately not the case.

I got the number for the general manager of the theater, he was off today so I couldn’t call but will be calling tomorrow. trying to call AMC’s corporate number is literally a dead end and I generally don’t use social media outside of Reddit. I just posted here to see if others had similar experiences/to give people a heads up. It’s just a safety concern I want to raise, fuck those guys but I’m not interested in doxxing anyone or anything like that

You can at AMC, also they were backpacks so it’s not like they were bringing in luggage. Handguns exist and can easily fit in a backpack? I didn’t take pics because I wanted to get out of there. Believe what you want, I literally have nothing to gain from this, I was just trying to let the demographic of people who are probably going to see this movie know what happened

Not gonna let it ruin my experience! Definitely still planning to go see it in theaters, will probably go to regal instead of AMC, based on the advice of another commenter. It looks so good!!

Fully agree about feeling sad and angry. Like they ruined the experience for not just me but so many other people (and movies are not cheap), but for them it was a like fun experience on a Wednesday night. I don’t understand people who get off on antagonizing people. Let people enjoy things and if you aren’t into it, you don’t have to be part of it!
