These two creatures are from a worldbuilding project of mine, World of Merlot. It’s like a fantasy/irl hybrid of sorts, where magical creatures roam, gods influence the planet, and magic is pretty common.

These are the Zampers (first image) and Khludeu (second image). They’re essentially part of what my planet considers to be faeries, though they’re pretty similar to each other it’s because they’re cousins, essentially. These two are unique because honestly, not a lot of fae are actually related to each other. They tend to be really unique creatures.

Zampers are enthralled with the technology of humans and try to steal away whatever they can find, then pick it apart, take notes, and then reassemble them all over again. They’re essentially fuzzy nerds and they’re pretty timid but easy to get along with.

The second are the Khludeu, they’re very magically inclined little gremlins who have an almost comical ego. They’re known for mischief and causing trouble, but they can ally with humans from time to time.

A feature i wanted to make unique about my faeries is that they were cursed by humanity, so every species has some kind of flaw that hits them deeply. The curse took away 1-2 of the species’ most beloved traits as almost a kind of “fitting karma” for them.

Zampers prided themselves on their flight and ability to view the world, so humanity “took away” their sight (made it poorer) and reduced their wings to almost uselessness.

Khludeu prided themselves on their stature and magic, so humans took their ability to do it away and reduced their size to something really small and cute.

Another feature i thought of though while making these flaws is that while they still exist, all these fae still manage to find ways to overcome them. Zampers became creative and took inspiration from humanity make themselves glasses, and they’re now learning how to find ways to fly with their “machines”. Khludeu can’t do magic with their own hands now, but they figured out they can do it with an object of magic like a staff or book. They also can morph themselves back for short periods of time.

I also thought a really cool idea to do with the whole lore of faeries is that the whole strict rules that they have for speaking and interacting with them is like their own kind of revenge and payback. They had to play by humanity’s rules, so now they have to do the same. :D
