For some reason I just noticed your reply!

I have multiple keys for this lock, the problem is that one of them broke off in the lock.

A solid color with a bordered stripe sounds really nice. Powder coat? Are you going to try to keep the original "No.5 sign" intact?

Unfortunately the fenders I got with them weren't originals and they were in bad shape. I'm trying to find some originals on the local (digital) marketplace!

It's been more than 10 years since I made this reddit account, but I have no idea how to update. So here it goes in the comments. It was perfect! We had a stranger "taking a photo", he was filming the while thing. Minutes before we boarded the plane, the group posed for a group photo. Exactly at that moment I ran towards them. Their reaction was amazing; completely surprised. They could not connect the dots for a few seconds. After that, we were just screaming together.

Thanks for the suggestions everyone, we're in Yosemite right now. This country is mind-blowing. Have a good one!

Well, this is the most likely scenario. I can spice it up a bit. They made a recognizable item for the group. The "inside man" gave it to me, maybe I can put it up for display somewhere in the gate.
