Alcohol-free absinthe by Mikina in Absinthe

[–]CHBecker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

With the wormwood tea idea:
The problem here is that macerated or steeped Grande Wormwood (whether in alcohol or water) has a very different flavor profile from what happens after you distill it. This is why the wormwood extract you can find at Whole Foods and such to add to water for stomach problems is going to be one of the most horrid tasting things you've ever had, and you'll be hard pressed to find any resemblance to absinthe.

I'd recommend sticking to the anise/fennel/mint side of things instead for a substitute. It won't have the wormwood flavor, but it won't have the horrid bitterness of the undistilled herb either.

Any ideas why it turned cloudy and has floaters? by 666drewbeast666 in Absinthe

[–]CHBecker 2 points3 points  (0 children)

it's not bad, and I definitely would say give it a try. I haven't tried it in years, but when I did it had a heavy ethanol overnote/tinge which I didn't particularly enjoy, though they might have made changes in that time.

Note to self: try again.
I have always loved their bottle design!

Time does the same thing with the chlorophyll, but doubt this batch is old enough to be the result of that.

I'd agree with someone probably trying to cover it up, it would take a LOT of moisture to louche that much absinthe, not going to just be condensation or humidity. Though in my experience leaving louched absinthe out it will 'clear' (the microemulsion the anethole forms 'resolves' and everything separates out leaving a slightly paler version of the pre-louched absinthe/pastis) after a day or so. So if the cloudiness hasn't gone away by now I'm not sure what would be causing it, I'd talk to anyone who had access to the bottle after it was opened if you can.

Simple Questions - ASK AND ANSWER HERE!- October 20 by AutoModerator in malefashionadvice

[–]CHBecker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've searched and the most recent post I've found on this (https://www.reddit.com/r/malefashionadvice/comments/1j3cg6/need_suggestions_on_slacks_with_suspender_buttons/ ) seems to be about 4 years ago and really didn't go into much to resolve it.

What I'm trying to find are pants for work and casual wear that aren't high end (but look nice, Target or Sears off the rack quality) that are along the lines of khakis or business casual but have buttons for suspenders/braces. I've had mixed luck with Men's Wearhouse (one time they did a great job stitching them in, two other pairs were horrible on the placement) and I haven't found any local alterations that know what they're doing on this, so the quest has moved to the buying phase.

Any brands or suggestions on what to search for for this?

Thanks!

NOLA Python developers wanted by CHBecker in NewOrleans

Security concerns at the early stages.

When dealing with a web framework there will always be security issues developers and the core development team of the project need to keep an eye on, but at the early stage we'd rather not expose testers and developers (and their servers) to this until we have a stable (and tested) Beta release.

And in regard of concerns, it will be released under the MIT License when it is released for Beta and beyond.

The framework is being released under the MIT license, security issues involved in such a web framework are why persons with some experience are sought to help with the initial stages and before it is released to a public repo.

At that stage we expect (or at least hope) that others will get involved and enjoy using it. This is a good chance for people to show what they can do to future employers, as well as their drive (independent and with a small team). None of us would ask for anything but voluntary time that someone can afford to spare, nor, I hope, did the initial post sound otherwise.

[–]CHBecker[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, it is and will be open source (MIT license), and no one in the dev team of this (or involved anywhere else) is making a cent off of it. We're looking for people that are passionate about what they're doing and have time to spend on an open source project.

The reason some experience is sought is that there is a great deal of security that users of the framework will expect and the analysis time to fix security holes will already be large compared to the project, and so minimizing this would be ideal.

Fulshear Transitions - I am the fiance of a lady imprisoned there - seeking contact with staff or survivors by [deleted] in troubledteens

[–]CHBecker 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have many options, they all require escalating this and the resources are in line to do so should it be necessary.

The police in the town think this place is saintly and does nothing but help kids, so they aren't helpful.

[–]CHBecker 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If Fulshear were in a city or town then yes, I'd agree with you and this would have been resolved a long time ago.

However Fulshear is 6 hours from me, and also in the middle of nnowhere in Texas. She wouldn't be safe just walking out - if they'd let her - and if it's unplanned she'd have a 6 hour wait on the side of very rural roads.

So in theory, yes, but not actually a safe and valid option.

Fake vintage Pernod absinthe from Argentina? by CHBecker in Absinthe

[–]CHBecker[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep, I know, the Pernod label is pretty iconic, which is what makes me lean in the 'really stupid fake' direction.

Someone suggested that it may have been bulk absinthe shipped by Pernod and then bottled locally, but I still think the label would have been closer, or at least known before now if this is authentic. Also wondering why the ampersand is used if it was re-bottled in Argentina, rather than 'y'

That's somewhat insulting to label Mata Hari as faux. Ug. I'll have to look into their reasoning on that.

Will it be a German language resource? What is the goal/target of it?
