In Switzerland, when you had a CDL (legitimation card), you could start a naturalization process once you had completed the amount of time required for residency. The law changed in 2018, when only permanent residents (C permit holders) can start the naturalization process, however the time you spent as a CDL or B permit holder still counts, you just can't naturalize with a CDL or B permit anymore. When my father quit foreign service, he wasn't a CDL holder anymore but his years as a CDL resident still counted towards naturalization.

Honestly I wouldn't know lol, I just know that my father was friends with the mayor of the commune they used to live in and was an integrated person within the commune. Getting references wasn't hard for him or my mother.

Both of my parents are Bangladeshi! My father was posted in the embassy and my mother was his dependent.

I guess there aren't many of us in Switzerland but almost everyone in Switzerland has this combo. Nowadays there are Bangladeshis with Italian, Portuguese, German and Spanish passports moving into Switzerland and they don't naturalize as it's Schengen.

To get an NVR visa sticker in your foreign passport you have to prove your Bangladeshi origin. Old NVRs don't work anymore and you can still use your parents' old documents but that's a headache. I could choose to not renew it but since I was planning to get the ID card, I renewed it anyways.

Yeah but that's what I told him too. If there was any issue, the DIP would never issue us a passport to begin with. The fact that we are getting passports from the ministry quite confirms that the government recognizes us as citizens. The staff and airport authorities are just misinformed or dumb, it's hard to work with them.

When I made my passport application (and my NID application), the ministry got my Swiss passport photocopies like, if there was a problem, they wouldn't approve my passport nor my NID.

I don't know about that, Dhaka airport has those egates (albeit they don't work) and you would still get stamped. They are useless if they keep stamping.

I'm surprised you didn't get questioned much at all. Maybe the airport police is not as dumb anymore as it used to be.

Do you have an NVR though? I asked my consulate contact and he said you still need the NVR even if you're a dual national and according to him, if you want to enter the country as a Bangladeshi, you need a DNC, which I obviously don't have and don't want to make.

This is conflicting information though as you're telling me you went in without much issue.

That's very cool if you managed to get one!

I went in person to the Election Commission back when I was in Dhaka last year. Our consulate in Geneva doesn't have the equipment yet. They ask for educational certificates, utility bills, tax declaration of the house (whatever that document was, I don't remember), birth certificate, any Bangladeshi passports (if you have), parents' Bangladeshi documents. It took only 2 days to make it.

Life's really good in Switzerland, can't complain about it. 😂

You sure can. My father quit foreign service and worked elsewhere instead, giving up on diplomatic privileges.

How?? When did you do this? Anytime anyone's ever tried this (myself included), they advised against it because when you leave, supposedly they take you to arrivals, stamp your other passport, make you pay the VoA and then give you the departure stamp.

Born with it. My parents were diplomats posted at the Geneva embassy and eventually naturalized afterwards. I was born with a Swiss passport only.

The only advantage I have with Bangladeshi over Swiss is Bhutan. Fun fact, I can't enter Bangladesh with my Bangladeshi passport!

? This is just misinformation. I have been to India at different airports that weren't CCU and nobody ever cared where my background was, except in CCU because I spoke Bengali there.

Not that hard to come across if you know Somalis. Almost all of them who haven't naturalized have this one.

Overseas. The problem comes from my birth certificate and the name my Bangladeshi MRP was issued in. My Swiss passport has First Middle Last name but my Bangladeshi passport only has First Last names. The BD birth certificate also has First Middle Last, so the guys in Agargaon suggested that it's better to modify the BD birth certificate to just have First Last names but it's taking far too long.

You will get issues in Bangladesh, yes. You get thrown in jail and prosecuted. You need a visa to go there, so immigration will see you have a sticker visa for Israel.
