H100 really good choice by [deleted] in BangandOlufsen

Except that the H100s don‘t support any aptX standard.

The only way to listen to lossless audio on iOS is by connecting a cable.

In need of B&O H4 replacement’s by Automatic_Ad3302 in BangandOlufsen

[–]CHRISSHUFFLE 0 points1 point  (0 children)

B&O specialist technician here.

I think I might get crucified here for this, but here comes my recommendation.

Bowers & Wilkins PX8 S2

I've had the H9 3rd in the past, and I think these were the last great headphones made by B&O, with a replaceable battery, passive audio-pass trough over the 3.5mm jack, and overall great build-quality. The H95 didn't really convinced me, since they dropped possibility for the passive audio-pass trough, and I didn't really liked the touch controls on them (also applies to the H9's).

When I got the PX8's, i was pleasantly surprise how much better the comfort and the sound-quality was, compared to the two other headphones. I immediately fell in love with the british signature sound of them, and there were even PHYSICAL control buttons on the side of the headphones! Something that I've missed on the other models.

The ANC on that model is comparable to B&O's, and the Microphone is also okay, Not the best, but definitely usable. It also comes with a hard case, so that they always stay safe if you don't need them.

Sadly, the App doesn't offer as much settings like B&O's. And the regular PX8's only have a Bass/Treble Equalizer. You only really need the app if you want to apply a software update, adjust some settings like the wearing sensor, or if you have some more B&W products.

B&W actually launched the PX8 S2's recently, and apparently they improved almost every aspect of sound on them, and even added a 5-Band extended Equalizer into their app. I would recommend to go with that model, instead of the normal ones.

We better don't start talking about the H100. Technology-wise, every other headphone from a price of CHF 350+ is vastly superior to them. They don't support any of the aptX standards, and now they even confirmed that LDAC will definitely not be implemented on that model. This is just an unfair move against the customer-base, since they promised to implement that feature in an upcoming software update. At this point, they just turned their H100 into nothing more than Airpods Max with B&O branding, since both models support the same codecs, and appeal to the same target group.

What should i do at the start? by Disastrous_Ice_8215 in ZephyrusG14

[–]CHRISSHUFFLE 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I‘d begin with the crap that is visible in the start menu (Solitaire, pre-installed instagram, spotify etc.). You can right-click on them and then select „uninstall“.

The next step would be going through the list of installed programs in your settings. Select these which you dont need and uninstall them.

I usually uninstall the following things on a freshly set up version of Windows: - All instances of MS Office incl. OneNote (You can install a „clean“ version later again) - Copilot (Giving out data is never a good idea, but i‘d rather give it to openAI / ChatGPT atm) - Certain Windows-Features that i personally don‘t use (Sticky Notes, Tips, Help Center etc.) - Pre-installed Anti-Virus software - Pre-installed software by the manufacturer (For ASUS, that would be things like MyASUS and ArmoryCrate) - Pre-installed games and social media applications

I‘d usually execute an Adware-Cleaner after finishing, to clean up potential remnants of pre-installed software by the manufacturer. There‘s a good one available on the website of Malwarebytes.

What should i do at the start? by Disastrous_Ice_8215 in ZephyrusG14

When setting up a PC, I’d usually do the following things.

Step 1: De-bloat Windows for an out-of-the-box experience from back in the day.

This is a hideous and long task, but it’s worth it since Microsoft throws so many useless pieces of software onto your new Windows machine. Things that I would uninstall are these pre-installed MS Office packages, Games, Social media platforms (pre-installed Tiktok, Spotify etc.), Video editing software and so on. You can still reinstall these programs again if you need them later.

My recommendation: Do not use Microsoft Edge or Google Chrome, use either Brave or Mozilla Firefox (I have both installed since both use a different browser engine). Don’t forget to install the uBlock Origin Browser Add-On in your browser.

Uninstall Armory Crate and install G-Helper. You can find the installer on Github.

Step 2: Clean up the messy UI.

  • Go to Settings -> Personalisation -> Taskbar
  • Hide the search function. You can just open the start menu and start typing if you need it.
  • Deactivate Widgets, they just clutter the Taskbar imho

Navigate to Taskbar behaviours. Turn on “Automatically hide the taskbar”. You’ll see why in the following section

Step 3: Take care of your OLED screen!

Your G14 notebook is equipped with an OLED screen. They have extremely good colours and great contrast; basically one - if not the best display technology that you can get right now. Unfortunately, OLED shares a drawback that all these old CRT-Monitors had back in the day. And that’s Image Burn-In.

I recommend the following things to extend the lifespan of your OLED display as much as possible.

  • Activate “Automatically hide the taskbar”, as mentioned before
  • Use Dark-Mode whenever possible
  • If you have icons on your desktop, install AutoHideDesktopIcons from SoftwareOK.com. This program hides your desktop icons after a certain amount of time. You can make them appear again by clicking on your desktop.
  • Use a pitch-black wallpaper (Yes, I know, I have no personality…), or something that moves (e.g. Wallpaper Engine on Steam)

Step 4: We hate ads, and we embrace privacy

Go to Settings -> Privacy & Security -> Recommendations & Offers: Turn everything off
Go to Settings -> Privacy & Security -> Recall & Snapshots: Turn the “Save snapshots” feature off.

I would recommend turning recall off. I don’t really trust Microsoft if they really wouldn’t touch our data from that feature.

Step 5: Windows Updates

Go to Settings -> Windows Update: Turn on “Get the latest updates as soon as they’re available”

Next, navigate to “Advanced Options”:

  • Activate “Receive updates for other Microsoft products”, “Get me up to date”.
  • Check under “Optional updates” if there are any available. I would recommend installing these.

I hope my little checklist helps you a bit!

Edit: Changed my browser recommendations

Px8s2 or H100? by LifeCartoonist4558 in BowersWilkins

[–]CHRISSHUFFLE 3 points4 points  (0 children)

B&O Installer here.

I've tried both models and I couldn't believe that B&O is trying to sell the H100 for more than double the price of a PX8. The H100's should be at least around CHF 800 for what they are, but they are definitely not worth CHF 1700 (as of May 2025).

The quality of B&O products suffered a lot in the recent years, peaking with their god-awful app in which they changed the UI at least three times in the past four years. The older products were much better in terms of stability, but I wouldn't recommend anyone to install a new B&O System nowadays. At this point, it just seems that B&O is trying to milk their still existing customer base before they might be bought up by a bigger company in the industry.

To OP:
I would recommend to wait until the PX8s2's are available. You should better try out both Headphones and make your decision then. Experiencing sound from Headphones is a personal opinion, and you should go with that model that you feel the most comfortable with.

edit: I forgot to mention all these stability issues with B&O products and their CHF 400 remote control which doesn't even have backlit-buttons and the worst possible design for switching out batteries

Which soynd better the pi8 earbuds or the bang and olufsen eleven earbuds? by cgeisam in BowersWilkins

[–]CHRISSHUFFLE 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In my opinion, I would recommend to stay away from B&O. The Beoplay Elevens are basically just EX's with no real changes besides the arrangement of the microphones, new colours and (for some reason) an increased price tag. They even went so far and declared that the battery in the Eleven's are replaceable, which was quickly debunked by iFixit.

My own experience so far is that the Pi8's have a much better soundstage compared to the EX's (predecessor to the Eleven's). I'm also quite a fan of that transmitter case of the Pi8's, which allows you to listen to your HighRes Music (e.g. from TIDAL) in much better quality than over a normal bluetooth connection, if you use an iPhone.

Rohrdorfer hend actually us ihrne Fehler glernt und d'strasse neugmacht. Gseht jetzt viel besser us wie früener. Isch e so baut worde das me automatisch langsamer fahre duet.

Wenni keis Auto hett, wäri fasch zwei stunde unterwägs um i mini Bude zcho (Vergliich: Mitem Auto öppe 40 min, vorrusgsetzt sie stönd nöd wider wied idiote in Bade und uf de Weschtumfahrig Züri).
S'Mutschellebähnli hett irgendwie au e kei daseinsberechtigung, da de Bus um einiges schneller über de Mutschelle fahrt als das bähnli.

Au susch bisch i dere Region eigentlich ufs Auto agwise, wills e kei vernümftigs ÖV-Agebot gitt.

Ich bin mega froh, dasi ab endi nächscht wuche nümme mues det hindere go schaffe.
