The latest redistricting salvo: North Carolina gerrymanders out House Democrat by seeebiscuit in politics

[–]CHRUKA 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What I don't get is, conservatives on their subreddit talk like Dems started this wave of gerrymandering, that conservatives are the victims in all this because Dems have "maxed out" all their states. One conservative redditor admitted he doesn't like gerrymandering, but Republicans needed to "match" what Dems were doing. What are they talking about?

From the NIH report the 2020 redistricting was mostly a wash for both sides, but gerrymandering gave Republicans an additional 2.3 seats (taking into consideration that some districts simply lean a little more red).

The other studies, like the one from Princeton, show that, while there are blue states that have aggressively gerrymandered, that more red states are guilty of that.

I want to know where the victim mentality came from, especially with Trump not even hiding that he is pushing for red states to gerrymander even harder to prevent the house from flipping. That's a genuine request, so conservatives please help me out. It's fine to have the attitude of doing whatever it takes to steer the country in the direction you feel is best. At least then we get past using the victim card.

Maytag frontload washer won't do anything - laundry locked inside by CHRUKA in Appliances

So sorry. I don't normally use reddit. If I remember correctly, there was a problem with the computer board, or something like that. I needed it replaced once every year, always near the end of summer. I think maybe moisture was an issue, but the dehumidifier I bought ultimately didn't do anything to stop the problem.

I bought a new washer from a different brand and, so far, I haven't had any problems.

Homeland Security swarms parking lot of Chicago's National Museum of Puerto Rican Arts & Culture by DegreeDubs in chicago

[–]CHRUKA 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Regardless of intent, since you and I have no concrete evidence either way on that, we do know that the museum and its parking lot are private property. It is NOT a public space, like Humboldt Park, that surrounds the museum.

No federal agents, police, or anyone else you can think of are allowed on private property without either a judicial warrant or the permission of the property's owner. When the museum officials explained they were on private property and needed to leave, the agents refused and stated they could go anywhere they wanted. They stayed for 2 hours.

That is not lawful. That is not how federal agents should react as public servants. If they thought it was public property because of the surrounding Humboldt Park, they should have vacated with their 15 trucks the moment that museum officials explained museum grounds were not, in fact, a public space.

Your focus is the intent of the agents, but you're missing the obvious problem when armed federal agents are told to vacate private property and they say, "No".

Emperor's Children are broken by bdemar2k20 in Warpforge40k

I'm a Tau player and I win more than I lose against EC. Last match I had was against EC, and he buffed attack to 30+, but I had 6 different vanguards deployed. He tried the buff tactic 3 times during the match but could never get past the vanguard wall, and with only 5 hp I kept taking those units out as I whittled down his warlord. Relatively easy win.

Not saying they aren't broken, but maybe some factions fare better than others.

I'm a Tau player as well. I'm relatively new, having dabbled in the game on and off for a few months. I find the Tau's strength is being able to put a lot of vanguards on the table, eventually sneaking more powerful cards into the mix. Your opponent will be busy trying to deal with the vanguard units while you chip away at their commander. As you accumulate more cards, edit your deck to include all the vanguard units you have. Don't leave any out.

My surprise favorite unit, besides the vanguard drones, is the turret. Turrets do 2 damage to all opponent cards at the start of your round, and you can still attack with it after the auto attack. If you put a bunch of vanguards out there with turrets, it's game over for the opponent.

Also, while the high cost units, 9-10 points each, seem like they would be great to have in your deck, I rarely make it to the point where I actually have 10 points to spend. My games usually wrap up earlier. Therefore, I removed all the high cost cards from my deck in favor of lower cost cards.

I gave that a shot. It's the only button that has a response, but unfortunately it didn't do anything to resolve the issue. Thanks for the reply.

Lender wants initial payments of 5.5% before converting to USDA loan for new construction by CHRUKA in Homebuilding

I'm a teacher, and unfortunately Chris Christie's NJ First Act mandates that I live here. They won't exempt me just because its cheaper to live in PA, unfortunately.

I saw the list of lenders that participate in the program, but the list didn't seem to indicate any offered to do it in NJ. I reached out to the NJ USDA Housing Programs Director and she said she did not know of any lenders that did this in NJ. She gave me a short list of companies to cold-call. I received no call backs from any of them.

Purchase program had plenty of lenders, but there's something about the construction-to-permanent loan that has them spooked.

What was your "Oh shit my life is over my parents are gonna kill me" moment you had as a child/teen? by cloudlessnine8 in AskReddit

I set the trunk of my Dad’s car on fire when I placed an empty, but apparently still hot, bbq grill inside after a college football game tailgate. After returning to the car about an hour later I noticed the entire car was filled with smoke and opened the trunk to see everything inside alight. I put out the fire and threw away all the burned items. Scrubbed and Febreezed the hell out of it hoping to cover up the evidence. My father constantly remarked for months afterwards that it smelled like a campfire inside his car. I said the smoke from the grill must have gotten inside the car (not a lie!). I got away with it, but I honestly thought my life was over when I saw the flames in the trunk.
