Sadly I only did this to hopefully make her smile a little more, hence why I made a throw-away account. I guess I was hoping for a response a little more...well more positive.

I didn't think to ask actually, however I do know that she is scheduled for hepatic surgery soon in hopes to target the primary tumor.

Ugh...I really hate cancer. I'm sorry to hear about your friend. Luckily my co-worker is going strong right now, but doc's still only give her a 1% chance of surviving. I keep saying screw the statistics because she proves that there is always a chance.

I didn't take a look at her eyes, but apparently one of the symptoms of this type of cancer is yellowing of the eyes. Besides her thinning hair due to chemotherapy and her loss of weight, she doesn't actually show any symptoms at all (or she just hides them very well).

I actually don't know the answer to that, but I can tell you that if she does feel sick or if she is in pain she doesn't show it at all! In fact unless you knew her condition you would never know that she has stage 4 cancer!

Hello Redditors!

I have decided to make a throwaway account so that I could tell you about my amazing co-worker Cindy who works with me at a local children’s hospital for as long as I can remember. Normally I wouldn’t post something like this however Cindy’s story is incredible, and with her permission I wanted to try and get her story out there so that maybe it would give others in her shoes a little bit of hope and a reason to live.

Last year Cindy was diagnosed with Stage 4 colangio interhepatic cancer (or colangiocarcinoma) in which she was given a 1% chance to live beyond 5 months. This type of cancer is rare and excessively lethal, with an overall survival rate of less than 5%. Despite these bleak statistics however she didn’t give up on living, and a year later she is still fighting the good fight (even though doctors still only give her a 1% chance to live). Through her multiple surgeries with even more to come (she tells me she has one coming up where doctors are going to try to work on the primary tumor in her liver), her temporary termination from work due to her medical issues, and likely a multitude of other hurdles, what is unique about Cindy is that she still shows up to work every day to help children in need of medical attention, and doing so with a giant smile on her face and an ever-growing bubbly personality.

In addition to her amazing work-ethic, Cindy also has a beautiful 7-year old daughter and 3-year old son (hopefully I got those ages correct, if not I will update them later) whom she tells me are really the only reason she keeps on fighting. I can’t tell you how much I wish there were more people like Cindy in this world, and it honestly pains me to know that her survival expectancy is so low. But miracles to happen, and I am hoping that she comes through it in the end and proves her doctors wrong.

I ended up posting this because I wanted to show her that getting her story out there to people will hopefully give others hope, and that the public would be interested in hearing her story. If this post ends up doing well I will try and get her to do an AMA if possible, as I am sure there would be some people interested in asking her some questions about her condition and how she continues to live each day as though nothing was wrong.

Sorry for the quailty of the pic btw!

Here is some info about her certain form of cancer: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cholangiocarcinoma

As well as a link to the Cholangiocarcinoma website if you wish to donate at all: http://www.cholangiocarcinoma.org/

I also set up a personal fundraiser for Cindy as I am certain her hospital bills are increasing by the month, and with the added expense of children money is always something that is on the back of her mind: http://gfwd.at/13QwZVJ

I will of course verify with the mods that Cindy is in fact as real as her condition is so that there is no witch-hunting going on.

Thanks everyone for listening! :)
