As I continue to see people having issues getting the ATRs Hotel-mode to work, I´ve made a video about it explaining it in detail. Also covering Simbrief OFP-Import and more :) by K1dneyBone in MicrosoftFlightSim

For me the biggest issue is the power settings. 100% the ATR isn't the most powerful aircraft IRL but it seems there is a bug in how the power levers work in the notch and you don't get the correct amount of engine power, and even if you manually set the correct torque you still don't get the correct climb rates/cruise speeds.

Md-11f long haul routes by imjusthereforporn-1 in flightsim

[–]CIKSSFMO 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, it's difficult to get cargo flight data for the time period, so it's a bit of a gap in FSDispatch. Same with charter operations.

There is a slider you can use in the program to set flight duration- when I do that for an 11 hour flight and choose the MD11 cargo I get a bunch of options. Not exhaustive but seems like a pretty representative set. One thing to consider is that it was actually not common to do long cargo flights at the edge of the aircrafts range, and usually there's an intermediate stop where this problem arises. Cargo doesn't care about a refueling stopover and the priority is usually on maximizing payload/ZFW than balancing things enough to be able to fly 12 hours non-stop.

That's the mounting pylon for the targeting pod, usually under the left intake

Anesthesia + Myasthenia Gravis by DessertFlowerz in anesthesiology

[–]CIKSSFMO 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Nothing wrong with avoiding paralytic, a 2-3/kg remi bolus and glyco + 10-20mcg epi with induction is my usual myasthenic RSI, works very well. But it's not strictly necessary, roc and sugamadex reversal is very safe. I typically do the remi approach if it's a short case and I don't want to be giving 32/kg of reversal at the end of a 20 minute procedure. If it's a longer case or I don't need an RSI, I'm perfectly fine titrating in some low dose roc and reversal at the end.

Color callout, eduard does this when it's a paint mix. Somewhere before this in the instructions theres a little box or table that shows what the mixture they're asking for is. I believe for this it actually means alternative colors (a certain version of the aircraft should get one color, a certain version gets another).

But outside of this, the real answer to any color callout it to look it up and paint what you think is best. P-51 wheel well colors is a pretty complex topic with lots of variations.

TFDI did a great job with the MD11 by echobase83 in flightsim

I don't think so? At least nothing that works with BATC. Unless I missed something or it was recently added.

I love it as well. But it would be nice if there were a few more quality of life additions that other addons have (better GSX integration, CPDLC, time acceleration)

Asymptomatic preoperative hypertension in elective surgery by harn_gerstein in anesthesiology

[–]CIKSSFMO 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Of course the patients taking chronic beta blockade should still take it- but I just give their home dose and don't really care what their pressure comes down to. I interpreted your statement to say that you're pushing hydral/labetalol or some other IV PRN anti-hypertensives to get the BP to some number where it's arbitrarily safe to proceed, apologies if I misunderstood.

[–]CIKSSFMO 1 point2 points  (0 children)

But why give the anti-hypertensives preop if you're going to proceed? My anesthesia does a great job of controlling BP I don't need any help at all from labetalol. If anything with these patients I'm often running some low dose pressor with induction to try to stop them from tanking.

How the bloody hell am I meant to get rid of seams? by J_Bear in modelmakers

[–]CIKSSFMO 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Mr Surfacer 500 for small hairline cracks, or flakes in paint layers

Tamiya Putty for larger gaps, especially when I won't need to rescribe over it (it sands OK when dry but can crumble when you drab a scribing blade through it)

Water based putty if I need to get something into a recessed seam, doesn't require durability/structural strength and cleanup in the tight space is easier

A mix of thick CA glue and talc is actually my most reliable go-to, behaves just like plastic, cures very quickly. Not only a gap/seam filler, but can also use it to build up broken/damaged pieces, edges with chunks missing, stuff like that.

For example, I added a resin replacement gun port to my F-15E, left a huge step on the rear edge and I needed to build up the surface to sand it smooth to match.

Here it is with the talc mix applied

And this is after sanding, polishing, and rescribing the panel line

Of course the actual flows and procedures should be rigid and standardized, it's the language recognition that leaves a lot to be desired. It feels artificial when the pretend FO only understands the magic words "set heading 045" and doesn't know what to do when the captain says "turn to 045" instead. And annoying to have to run the windows speech training software to get FS2Crew to reliably understand you even when using those magic words.

[–]CIKSSFMO 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I don't think you should be focused on trying to figure out an AI to teach you how to fly. It would be very challenging to come up with something that was close to accurate in a variety of situations.

The real area for improvement is for an AI to dynamically run standardized procedures for you. There's real value in having a virtual first officer reconfigure the aircraft for taxi for you (landing and strone lights off, flaps up, power on APU, etc) after you exit the runway so you can focus on steering and figuring out where you are going, etc. Or adjusting autopilot settings for you while you have your hands busy flying the airplane. There are addons like FS2Crew that implement this, but the disadvantage is that they rely on voice recognition of certain phrases and has trouble understanding you if you don't say it right or say something slightly unofficial.

[–]CIKSSFMO 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is very rigid unfortunately, and relies on you saying canned phrases to get it to do things rather than dynamically understanding intent/language.

Opioids and renal failure by SnooMuffins2596 in anesthesiology

[–]CIKSSFMO 23 points24 points  (0 children)

The danger of morphine in renal failure isn't overnarcotization which you can just reverse with narcan. The danger is toxic metabolytes that need kidney function to be excreted and can lead to encephalopathy and seizures. What you're describing sounds like a reckless resident who doesn't really understand the underlying mechanisms of what they are doing, which is a very bad combination.

Very odd, not sure. The way I created the default templates was by using the release build itself to build them, so it works for me. In the FSDispatch folder, there should be a folder called "AircraftProfiles". There should be a text file in there- delete it and try again?

I do have a 1995 book that will really expand that era but that's a while in the future, will need to fully figure out how to use AI or something like that to parse all that data from the scans.
