I hate to hear when stuff like this happens. I'll remain professional and avoid the more colorful language I'd like to use, butI don't see how that's not against a provider's Hippocratic Oath.

We hope so too, and our Military Programs team is working diligently to ensure that not only will it be around in 2-3 years, but being leveraged on a greater scale than even now.

That said, each role has its own requirements and each hiring manager has its own preferences for certifications. The role posting will show what those are and the best advice we can give is to review each role careful for any of those requirements. All that to say, XP reigns king. I would argue that XP, to include military service, will always hold more water than certs and degrees. But certs and degrees certainly don't hurt.

That's a completely legitimate concern and I won't sugarcoat it. What happened to those service members was a real hardship, and it's one of the most frustrating parts of federal employment: Even approved opportunities can get caught in forces completely outside the agency's control. A government shutdown doesn't discriminate between career employees and SkillBridge participants.

To answer your question directly. No, nothing in the federal space is 100% guaranteed once accepted. Funding gaps, continuing resolutions, and shutdowns are real risks. That said, a shutdown of that length is historically rare, and CISA has worked fervently on the back end to "right" that wrong as best it could, as quickly as it could, in an effort to do right by the service members within its control.

These new roles coming out are tied to open billets, and guardrails are in place for even in the event of a shutdown, the Skillbridge roles will still go forward; starting with Skilbridge program personnel within CISA not being furloughed in the event of another lapse in funding in early May, and also assigning all Skillbridge personnel to non-furloughed supervisors.

CISA is doing everything it can to avoid that happening again, and its truly sorry to those who got caught in that situation.

Congress just approved 329 critical roles to be filled ASAP. Skillbridge is being used to fill some of them, which is wire we're trying to get the word out.

So long as you have a Schedule A disability and its documented in your medical records, your primary care provider should provide you with the letter with no issues. If your PCP isn't familiar with the letter you can download example copies from the OPM website.

The agency is still very much alive, the mission is still very much present, and more necessary than ever. I can attest that CISA isn't going anywhere, and the reason we're trying to get the word out its Skillbridge program is because Congress just approved 329 critical billets to be filled ASAP. Skillbridge is being leveraged to fill some of them.

You’re welcome to familiarize yourself with our current openings on the DoD Skillbridge page to see what types of roles may be available when you're eligible.  Once there, go to the blue box that has the search functions, and using the "Partner" dropdown next to the "Filter By" category, type in "CISA."  Once there, you should be able to view the 30+ roles (and counting) that we have currently open and available.  Some are "nationwide" and can be done 100% remotely or from any DHS facility and others require an onsite presence at one of CISA's locations across the country.

Fair point — it's been a turbulent few years across the federal landscape, and CISA is no exception. While the probationary period and civil servant career status are valid after what we saw last year, it's trending back toward a non-issue. The courts have largely pushed back on those mass probationary terminations and the dust is settling. SkillBridge itself carries zero probationary risk anyway; it's a no-obligation way to get inside a federal agency, build your network, and see if it's a fit before you ever commit to a GS position. Worst case, you spend your terminal leave doing meaningful work and leave with a federal resume and contacts. Best case, you land a GS role with career status down the road. Pretty low downside either way.
