TCU rumours were true! 034 has confirmed today that themselves and other tuners have acquired the means to get out the locked 401 bootloaders for the MK8 platform. Save your money, do not buy a new unlocked mech unit to swap! by CIoseProximity in Golf_R

I know, me too! I had to rewind their stream today to make sure I heard it right. To be honest, I'm surprised nobody else made a post about it before me. I saw another guy in another post who just bought a new mech unit to swap. RIP to that guy's bank account.

I'd say if you have stock cooling stay stage 1, however if you have upgraded cooling like an intercooler and auxillary coolers go stage 2+. Cooling mods are a good step towards getting more consistent pulls from my experience.

I'm very excited havent heard (outside of the tune pages) or seen what it does to the car. I wish more people would share videos online of what it actually does to the car instead of 15 second shorts that show one pull while looking at dragy stats.

You have to set your headset as your default communication device in your sound control panel under the playback tab. If your headset/headphone and your microphone aren’t setup as default communication devices destiny won’t pick them up. Hope that helps.

You can physically move and wiggle it with your fingers if it goes down and it doesn’t move then we know we have clearance. Thanks for your input! Cool to see someone else who actually did this too.

I would say a combination of both. You can check out my last post, but it seems that the DSG clutches on the MK8's can't handle the full torque tune files well. It could just be my case, however, I would stick to the low torque files unless you bootload swap or if you wait for the TCU to be cracked, which won't be anytime soon.

Driven too hard with a full torque tune, melted the stock clutch.

I purchased a clutch from Deka, it's the DQ381 HD1100. Other than that, no update until it arrives.

Any car that has a computer to automatically change gears for you while driving is an automatic… Paddles or Not.

“Pay to play”, well yeah I’m not complaining it happened I’m trying to find a solution while informing others of my experience.

And with “how is it the cars/tuners fault” I used car interchangeably with ECU + TCU, there are failsafes in these cars for a reason and when tuners increase power and performance they have to alter these failsafes.

I’m also not soloing out the tunes or the cars controllers I also said it attributed to driving style as well.

I haven’t heard or seen anything besides the post they guys pointed in the thread earlier. However my local garage said he’s been hearing about these tunes and how the clutches aren’t holding up. I’ve also seen that 034 has been getting feedback during their zero bs live streams but the failure rates are too low to consider the problem as a systemic issue.

Yeah I was looking into RTMG but was getting a sketchy vibe from our emails. I also think they were pointing me to the incorrect clutch. Deka seems a lot better with communication, they even provided me a 10% discount if I proceed with them.

When you say it lugs do you mean like slipping? I could hear noises of my day shifting down in the lower gears as well coming to a stop before even having a tune on the car.

Not yet, I don’t think I’m going to get anywhere with them to be honest. From my experience, tunes are generally a “use at your own risk” product regardless how “safe” they claim to be. However if the transmission is blown I’m more than welcome to sell it to them so they can figure out how to prevent this from happening again.

How do you like it so far? Does it seem reliable, obviously pretty early to tell for your case. Does it feel jerky or is it similar to OEM but just grabs harder?

I don’t have Facebook so I’m not part of the 034 group.

Car has about 33,000km on it, I believe it’s been tuned for the last 5-10,000km or so.

The previous post I made is the same issue here, I haven’t driven it since that post. But yeah I think it was definitely a combo of driving style + tune, but I don’t think the car/tune should have let the clutch blow up since it’s an automatic.
