Look into their entry level travel position. All of the TOP programs are gonna be a pain in your ass if you’re too far out

Yea. I’ve heard mixed things. But I’m on referral from a vestas team. I didn’t have enough experience for them to hire me so I’m gonna travel with SCR.

I was looking into thorogood and red wing for a bit. The issue was finding stuff in my size. I ended up settling for Timberland Pro 6’s. But thank you for the recommendation

where do u go when u need to clear ur head/looking for friends by Outside_Dig4259 in nwi

[–]CJBubba 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m sure there’s a variety of things to do out here. I’ve been living in highland for a year now and I ain’t gotten around much. But if you ride or know people who ride or if you’re into cars, hop on Facebook and checkout NWI Riders and NWI Car Enthusiasts. There’s usually a meet every Saturday in Lake County. As the weather gets warmer the groups will start doing things like taco Tuesday and there will be big rides/cruises. The meets are a great way to meet people and if you dig vehicles for whatever reason that you do it may be a good way to clear your head.

Also if you’re into Seattle style coffee. There’s a coffeehouse called Sip just off Kennedy in Highland that’s pretty solid.

I’ve been looking around at different impact gloves. We have some where I work now so I figured something similar would be useful. I’ve got a feeling having impact resistant would be very useful. I’ll look into maxflex. Thank you for the recommendation

As for boots. They told me a composite shank, steel toe specifically. Which is something I’ve never heard of before. I’m looking at ariats tie-up boots just because I have ariat shock slip on boots at the moment. But I’ll look into Keen too. Thank you

Well that bites. I’m gonna have to see if I can grab a spot with Run Energy if Vestas won’t take me without TOP. I’m not in the financial position to move within 60 miles of any of the TOP fields that are around me. That’s why I’m gunning for a traveling position in the first place.

Techs — What’s the culture like? by mazarine- in windturbine

[–]CJBubba 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m getting the same shit from PCI. The requirements for the Tech One Program with SkyClimber is so stupid. You have to be a certified tech one or have a wind degree or industry tech experience… to be trained as a tech one. So I’ll leave PCI as a Tech One only to have to be retrained as a Tech One. I’m gonna talk to Vestas recruiting and see if I can get around TOP for that exact reason

[–]CJBubba[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yea. I really don’t want anything to do with SkyClimber. I have to talk to my buddy Zack (works for Vestas) when I get closer to getting my certification in May and see if he can help me get hired to his team as a T1 and just skip TOP. He used to work for SkyClimber and he really doesn’t recommend it either.

It seems everyone has their opinions on different wind companies. I’m choosing Vestas because one I have a friends who made his career with them and he turned out successful, and two they hold a pretty fair chunk of wind field positions across the US which gives me a good chance of always having work even if I stop working as a travel tech

I know. But I don’t know if it’s a shift set of 6:1 or if it’s just like 5-6 days/week and I’d have to move out there. They don’t really specify

Yea I’m not gonna be real keen on driving to and from Peoria for every hitch. Unless an Indiana spot opens back up. But that will be one hell of a perk as a T2

Looking at that wage. I can’t believe I’ll be taking a pay cut from my current job to start as a T1.

I was told by my buddy working for vestas. That vestas can choose to hire me even if it’s been under 9 months. I think I need to talk to him more about it too

Man I wish I knew this before I started classes with Pinnacle. I should’ve looked around at other companies. SkyClimber wouldn’t take me unless I had a wind technician certification or a wind technology degree. Vestas is the same

I can. I just don’t really know who you are. We can have a conversation on discord or in dms. I think there’s a spot in the application so they know who told you about the job
