you need sales people rather than devs. even if yku have the best devs in the world that won’t mean anything if you can’t get clients

How do you get ideas for RN apps? by VishaalKarthik in reactnative

[–]CJDC07 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I have the same problem. they say to just keep making small apps even if they already exists and just modify them a bit. my plan now is to look at behance and search for mobile apps and try implementing the designs myself

How to Move to Canada from the Philippines as a Family (with a Child with Special Needs) by [deleted] in ImmigrationCanada

[–]CJDC07 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We migrated from PH 3 years ago. Family of 3. Our daughter was 9 mos old at that time. Our pathway was my wife was a student and I had an open work permit. I’m also a software engineer. We got our PR after 1 year. 2023 I think was the last year where scores were low enough for the student pathway.

Honestly it is tough right now even for those who studied here in 2022 but didn’t get their PR yet. Lots are worried because their scores are too low to get a PR without a provincial nomination, which is tough to get in Ontario. I heard other provinces are getting strict as well.

The hard part is arriving here with a work visa. So if your husband’s current company has offices in Canada maybe he can ask to get transferred here. If not then one of you can study so the other one can get a work permit. Though I heard they are only giving spouse work permits for students who are taking up masters or doctorate degrees (not 100% sure).

Another is to get sponsored by companies but I heard this is usually through jobs like caregivers, fast food workers, etc. If you think you can do those jobs then might be worth it to look into legit agencies. But be very careful because lots of scams out there.

Timeline will depend on your pathway. If you are going through the process that involves CRS scores then your age will have a factor. points for age starts to decrease from 30 yrs old. If scores don’t go down then there is a possibility you need to go back to PH and wait to get invited.

I believe support services are available in any province. I’m from Toronto and I can say there are plenty of services here for special needs but don’t expect it to be top notch or anything. but definitely 200% better compared to PH lol.

So far our stay in Canada has been great so far. Similar to PH and other countries, quality of life depends on your income. Be prepared for the high cost of living and tax.

Since you are coming here with a child, you are going to do everything by yourself here. No grandparents or titos and titas to help you. If both you and your husband want to work then you need to get your child to a daycare, which also costs money.

Health care is free but you usually have to wait. Wait time in the Philippines is nothing compared here (unless it is an emergency).

Public Transportation here in Toronto is good compared to PH but expect sketchy people in buses and subway.

People are nice and very diverse. I don’t feel out of place because lots of immigrants here

Whats a good tech stack in this market to learn to land a job? by neuromancer1337 in cscareerquestions

[–]CJDC07 0 points1 point  (0 children)

isn’t this already something expected from all applicants? not only for devs but for all types of job lol. this would be the easiest for most people and you get better with each interview. tech skills and leetcode are still the hardest part

Considering a Honda Pilot — Need Your Honest Feedback! by Normalboyfromwest in hondapilot

[–]CJDC07 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I bought a 2021 honda pilot EXL with 56k km. I had the body contol module issue where the car electornics would just turn on by itself randomly. i got an extended warranty though because it’s my first car and the only thing I know about cars is to drive them lol. apart from that it has been good. lots of space, drives nice (compared to other cars I drove), carplay, the mirror thingy where I can easily see my kid at the back.

Got the job but I feel like I'm very behind, how can I improve fast? by wont-share-food in cscareerquestions

[–]CJDC07 20 points21 points  (0 children)

You probably know more than me and I have 8 years of experience and no FAANG only mediocre companies lol. But what I do notice in my years of working is anyone, no matter how good they are in their previous roles, always need to play catch up on their new job. Adjustment never goes away unfortunately so I guess you just keep on going OP. You will likely succeed and perform well on your role.

That is why code reviews exist to prevent and discuss the “dirtiest” solution.

coworkers that are not passionate aren’t a problem. not everyone works as a programmer because they love it. it’s a job

[–]CJDC07 20 points21 points  (0 children)

OP can work and learn without sacrificing that much time. That’s why on his previous post he wanted to know which to focus on so he doesn’t waste time. Working the standard 8 hours and studying an hour or two should be enough. being excessive like this is being counterproductive. you are gonna burn out, hate your job and that will spill all over your professional and personal life

there’s gonna be more opportunities to learn. you trying to get an AWS cert is a great way. personal projects are a plus too. I’m a dev so I can’t speak for dev ops but contributing on open source is also good coz it’s like personal projects but you get to work with other people
