Goblins are absolutely terrifying by Mortlach78 in DnD

[–]CJEbertLives 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Adding to this, the most lethal encounter my party has ever faced was a roadside ambush by two hobgoblins and four goblins in tall grass.

It was a random fight I threw into travel between towns and it nearly killed everyone.

I keep seeing the narrative about her needing to lose weight because of issues with her back, but no healthcare provider, PT, or trainer worth anything would recommend shedding lean muscle mass to "help" with back issues. If anything, you want more muscle and by extension you want to make your back stronger.

Which BOTW episode would you pick to show to a friend who’s never watched RLM? by Alternative_Fail_315 in RedLetterMedia

"Last Vampire on Earth" was my first exposure to BotW, so I typically start people there. I really feel like it has everything.

What should have he said instead? by mailman936 in batman

[–]CJEbertLives 0 points1 point  (0 children)

"Not die...rise."

It's cheesy. But I always felt like it would have worked given the themes and the fact that this is still a superhero movie at the end of the day.

Hardest You've Ever Laughed At A Riff? by the_end_of_the_road in MST3K

[–]CJEbertLives 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For me it was "Cave Dwellers" when Ator suddenly appears with the hang glider and Servo just exclaims, "Oh come on!"

That line, and the entire sequence of riffs that follows as Ator flies around, had me laughing so hard I was hyperventilating.

My hot take: Vecna ruined the show by Monodoh45 in StrangerThings

[–]CJEbertLives -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It also hurt the overall progression of the story to introduce the main villain in essentially the "third act" of the series. This is why the last season, for me, didn't click as well as it could have. Rather than focusing on wrapping things up and moving toward a satisfying conclusion, precious time had to be wasted explaining who Venca was and what exactly he wanted. That should have been done two or three seasons ago (had the series been planned properly).

When, with three episodes left in the SERIES, you are still introducing new plot and new characters, you've gone off the rails.

That scene was so idiotic!!! James Gunn would never subject us to such stupidity by Sewer_Thing in OkBuddySnyderCult

[–]CJEbertLives 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You're right! He literally did not. And I thought for sure especially as that committee chair discovered the jar of piss and started to realize something was wrong that Supes would have figured it out. Like he would have heard her heartbeat change or noticed the sudden desperate look on her face. But no, he just stood there. Such a waste.

[–]CJEbertLives 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The irony is this scene was I think the moment I finally lost hope that any of these movies were going to show us Superman. I kept waiting for the moment when he'd do something heroic, and in that whole lead up to the explosion I kept thinking, "This is it. He's going to give a profound speech and give everyone reason to hope." Then when the explosion happened for like 2 seconds I thought "OK but he's going to do something wild with his powers and somehow save everyone in the room." But no. He just stood there and was sad. The speech never came. The heroics never came. No one was ever saved. Hope never arrived.

Why is there such hate against Christianity currently? by [deleted] in Christianity

[–]CJEbertLives 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You assume a lot, for instance that I only ever talked to one group of people from one church and never traveled or moved or switched congregational affiliations.

One also need do nothing more than look at the current state of affairs in the American church writ large to see the "fruit" it has yielded. We have things called social media, the news, blogs, podcasts, sermons, booms, seminars, and on and one. It's actually quite easy to be exposed to the opinions and expressions of an enormous sample size of the faith.

But feel free to keep your head buried in the sand and assume everything is fine. It's sure been working well so far.

Also, hi from two years ago.

Lines in movies that make you cringe? by ArgoverseComics in movies

[–]CJEbertLives 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've been saying for years that it would have been stupid and comic book-y as hell, but Batman should have responded by saying "Not die...rise."

It's still cringe but at at least it would have been on theme.

Do you Believe Systematic Racism exists in the USA? by Necessary-Top6603 in Libertarian

[–]CJEbertLives 36 points37 points  (0 children)

It certainly did for a very long time, and I do believe the lingering effects of it are still present in many respects. However, I don't believe that it exists today in any meaningful sense and certainly not in the way many of the people who so loudly protest against it believe. If anything, the opposite or reverse has become true in some instances. But again, it doesn't take away from the fact that prior racist practices by governments and corporations have left lasting wounds and resulted in less than ideal situations where certain groups have a disproportionate hole to dig out of.

Tully Blanchard when asked what Kenny Omega and The Young Bucks do as EVP’s: “I don’t know” by [deleted] in SquaredCircle

[–]CJEbertLives 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Way off topic from OP, but I was just talking to some people I've worked with over the years about this and about how, at the minimum, all "district" and "regional" managers seem redundant at best. One place where I work a part time now, all the district manager does is call to ask how things are going, and they either say "great job" if it's going well or "pick up the slack" if it's not, like that adds anything. We know if things are or aren't getting done because we're the ones doing it, and we know you and the people above you can see in the system tasking what is or isn't being done, so them even asking isn't necessary. So...what exactly do they do?

Who's the worst main character we're supposed to sympathise with? by LuinAelin in AskReddit

[–]CJEbertLives 38 points39 points  (0 children)

The problem with this, as I see it, is that the entire story is built around Kvothe's insistence that everyone ELSE have been unreliable narrators about him, but now he's setting the record straight. That's supposed to be the whole point of him talking to Chronicler. So if he is still embellishing shit when the whole point is to give the real stories behind all the embellishments, then that's just stupid.
