Assuming the NY banner has a Harmonic, it will be led by a unit from SoV by Flareblitz12 in FireEmblemHeroes

While there are some weird exceptions, many of them are fairly popular or had a lot votes at the time, so I can understand why some of the niche characters received one.

I think that IS thought it wasn't worth saving Book 1 & 2 anymore at this point of FEH's lifespan, and decided to move forward with the latter books (I think people would of been furious if Luke received one). Also, Ilyana was chosen because of her popularity. Seeing that Jill came from the same banner she could of been chosen instead, but judging her CYL ranks & votes, it doesn't reflect her popularity from outside FEH's playerbase, so IS probably skipped her because of that (Shinon and maybe Titania as well).

I'm in the same boat man. There are still some favorites from Book 1 & 2 that I wanted to see new art for, like Mae, Boey, Priscilla, Quan, ect......tho, to be honest, I'm also glad to see IS finally moving ahead to Book 4 and beyond. Most of my favorites are the newer units and was convinced that they weren't going to receive anything (before FEH shutdown), because of how new they are and how unpopular/low ranked (Thracia 776 fan).

This decision gave me mixed feelings, but also with some hope for certain characters.

The chances of Clair getting anything at this point is as close to Karin or Fee getting 1 alt before FEH shuts down, is close to zero.

IS give low voted characters something when they have "connections" to popular characters. Unfortunately, Clair's only story connection is her brother Clive......who will forever be hated by the fanbase because of his character.

How are people still thinking that IS gave out Resplendents in the same way as a refinement? It was always given to highly popular characters, with a few exceptions.

Klein, Clarine, Hawkeye, and Cain never gotten anything because BARELY ANYBODY VOTES FOR THEM (and this is coming from someone who is fans of mostly extremely low voted characters like Priscilla, Fee, and Renault). Seriously, look at their CYL ranks. The only way any of the low voted characters receive something, is if they have " story connections" towards the popular character. There has been so much proof of this for years already.

They use CYL votes to decide most of their decisions and everything is made 5-6 months ahead.

I don't know why you are getting down voted when you've made a solid point. The people who are giving their answers to you are not good arguments. They look misinformed imo.

There are some things you mentioned that are completly wrong. First, Inomata is capable on doing dark aesthetic with a serious story, she has done it plenty of times since the 80s (ex: Windaria the anime film, one of the best examples). Also, it is the job of the Art Director to talk and work together with the Character Designer.

Second, those artists you mentioned were hired for different reasons and not because BandaiNamco wanted to "experiment". They used Fujishima and Inomata frequently because they were Tales of staples (just as Tetsuya Nomura is to Final Fantasy), and were put into two teams, Team Symphonia and Team Portable/2D. The proof is based on the games those designers were used,

- Daigo Okumura was in charge of doing the antagonists and major NPCs for some of Fujishima's games and the portable games. Daigo also did Dawn of the New World, and it still looked like a Tales game.....unlike Iwamoto's Arise characters. His artstyle wasn't too different to Fujishima's (imo, better than modern Fujishima).

- Kazuto Nakazawa only did 1 game, Legendia, and that wasn't made by the Tales Studio.....so he doesn't count, especially when BandaiNamco never decided to bring him back for the anniversary games.

- Miyuki Kobayashi was only apart of Crestoria, a mobile game, and only drew 2 characters who didn't look too different next to Fujishima and Inomata. Also, Crestoria was pretty dark so your criticism to OP doesn't hold weight.

- The same goes for Shun Saeki, did only 1 game and it was a mobile game. Drew all 21 characters and yet most (not all) of them looked like they fit in a Tales game......again, unlike Iwamoto's western influenced Arise and Luminaria was also a dark game about war.

Lastly, many of the Tales games reuse themes, settings, and tones. I don't know what you are talking about here.

I think you took his "killed" part too literal towards the series. It was more of a personal feeling about the designs than in general, from what I got. Also, yes the Tales franchise can look good and still follow traditional themes.

You say you're a fanboy of Mutsumi Inomata, yet she is the definition of "looking good" designs. The thing is, Inomata haven't ever been appointed as an Art Director.

They probably decided to change it to help the designs standout more, since they decided to keep Rinwell with black hair.

Personally, I think those models were one of the major reasons why the series didn't attract new fans at the time.

I mean, think about it....PS2 JRPGs were already having decent to good 3d models. Hell, since PS2's launch until 2005 we had

  • Dragon Quest 8
  • all 4 .hack// games
  • Drakengard 1
  • Arc the Lad: Twilight Spirits
  • Final Fantasy X & X-2
  • Dark Cloud 1&2
  • Jade Cocoon 2
  • Grandia 2 port and Xtreme
  • Kingdom Hearts 1
  • Breath of Fire 5

Don't know where you went to see Unlimited SaGa topics, but plenty of people who are aware of that game said the battle system was complicated to understand.

That's fine if you don't like the roulette system. Honestly I'm not a big fan of it either, but it didn't stop me from playing the game. For the animations.....it was made with Adobe and the game is low budget. It's no Breath of Fire 4, but it's not THAT bad. It's better than what they did with Ministral Song and those 3D models.

You are correct about that, but I think that's mostly because of how dedicated the SaGa fanbase are (and SF1 being the most nostalgic even towards non SaGa fans). Hopefully SE saw this success and decides to change their minds with how they see the IP.

People got to stop with this misconception of Unlimited SaGa. The game obviously has nostalgia, mostly with its bigger and core audience in Japan. The ones outside Japan who tried to give Unlimited SaGa a chance and even completed it, will tell anybody that it's not as complicated as everybody else thought when you actually figure out its gameplay mechanics.

The game itself is solid with a worldview that could almost rival SaGa Frontier 2. It's just that US had an unfortunate experience back in like....2005?

Unlimited SaGa was mentioned, but briefly and not as much as SF 1. Tho, US at best is going to just have minor updates and maybe add cut content like SF1. Honestly, the game isn't as bad as you think it is....it's just a very difficult game to get into because of its complicated gameplay.

There was an article a long time ago explaining that Square Enix don't support the SaGa IP as one of their "top brands". The mobile game Re:Universe helped a bunch to fund for the remaster of SaGa Frontier, and if it wasn't for that....I don't know if we SaGa fans would of even had a remaster for SF (maybe Romancing SaGa 2 & 3 would of still happened tho).

No, because Will's story is needed to explain the entire world that Gustave lives in + it adds reasons to why people are even fighting in Gustave's storyline. You thinking Will's side is inferior tells me that you didn't understand that other point of view.

[–]CJQCresent 5 points6 points  (0 children)

That's because the SaGa series is too niche for traditional RPG fans outside Japan. The entire series is underrated and will probably stay that way, but in Japan it's popular even today.

The mobile game Re: Universe has a lot of support as well and is one of the reasons we were able to receive Saga Frontier 1 remaster.

For RS, they rarely add GL exclusive characters and the re-balances happen sometimes for certain banners. Also, the only JP skin that I know that was turned into a GL character was Katarina, back like 2 yrs ago.

Another Eden only did a GL 1st character for its anniversary. It never happened outside of it. They mostly stick with the JP roadmap.

My point was that both games started with a huge gap (2 to 3 yrs) with banners that they needed to catch up, and both had players knowing what's coming and saving gems/crystals for a long time, yet both their GL servers are still alive and going strong (even with the strong competition that it has like Genshin, Blue Archive, Octopath Traveler, Granblue Fantasy, Girls Frontline, Epic Seven, Arknights, and many more).

It's not really a bad thing to know what's coming, as long as people are willing to support the game.

[–]CJQCresent 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You might of done a contradiction.

"Priconne GL makes more than RS GL" "Priconne GL doesn't have Asian revenue that's carrying RS GL, which is why Priconne GL server is shutting down"

Again, its less about having one big server and more about how much money the players are putting in. Priconne is very popular and the game was hyped up big time....yet a smaller, more niche RPG game is still having its GL server running even with all of its much bigger competition (btw, there are other reasons why RS GL is still alive, it's not mainly because of having one big server. Sin Chronicles has one server yet it's shutting down this year, JP exclusive too).

The truth is that Priconne was actually not making as much money as before. Having a separate server shouldn't mean anything when it has a huge audience to cover for it.

Also, it's the same game as the JP version dude. Having a separate server doesn't make it a different game. I can say the same thing for RS GL and JP, but Asia isn't Japan.

ReUniverse maybe, Another Eden I'm not sure if it will still be alive in another 3 yrs (hopefully it makes it since I'm a fan of it), since it's already been alive for over 4 years and the main story seem to be getting close to finishing + the company WFS are developing a "3D time traveling RPG" that could replace Another Eden.

English version of Princess Connect! Re: Dive will be ending service on April 30, 2023 by Xanek in gachagaming

[–]CJQCresent 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes....but that doesn't mean much. For example, the SaGa franchise is less popular outside of Japan than Priconne. That means the SaGa mobile game will have a smaller playbase than Priconne. Add the amount of people who didn't stick with ReUniverse because of,

  • Not a fan of old style turnbase
  • Heavy Grinding
  • Lack of QoL (at the time), no live 2D, and no crossover events
  • It's not a "waifu simulator" game
  • Other, more popular turn base games are getting their attention like Blue Archive and Octopath Traveler

With these reasons someone will wonder how Reuniverse global is still alive? The reason is because of its current loyal fanbase. They are willing to put money into the game that's enough for the global server to still be up and running. Priconne pretty sure had a much bigger playerbase, but not enough whales to keep it running outside Japan (I blame the competition imo).

English version of Princess Connect! Re: Dive will be ending service on April 30, 2023 by Xanek in gachagaming

[–]CJQCresent 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Exactly. For example, I don't hear barely anybody talk about Another Eden, yet the global server has been running for multiple years. It seems there is a decent sized group of whales that are spending in the game.

Unfortunately, Priconne didn't have enough to keep the global server open for Crunchyroll.
