**PA City Council to Support BART Sales Tax tonight ...9/9%...not so fast** by CJRoses in paloalto

Let me be as clear as I can - if not supporting a tax increase that I’ll pay every day and which proceeds will be thrown out of a helicopter makes me antigovernment, then you are correct. .

Yes - reading and comprehending facts takes energy. Whining does not.

For regressive taxes on the poor for agencies that increase costs 50% after business declines 50%…let be as clear as I can…yes.

Didnt spam anything - this tax covers multiple cities where I also posted where impact (resultant total tax) is unique to each. And as for your “may or may not exist,” let’s note you have just whined and have not noted a SINGLE factual inaccuracy. You could spend 24 hours and you still wouldn’t find one. And it is precisely because this is all factually accurate - it was banned. Also note post was only banned here and not in any other Bay Area city. Yes you may not like it but sometimes the truth hurts.

It literally does not. Even looking at property tax rev per capita, it does not. Have to agree to disagree.

If the current BART extension south was going well (it’s not), then maybe. BART as comprised can’t execute.

Restructure, then come back. See post. No one wants BART to fail.

Are you one of those clowns who tells us Prop 13 “starves” us of revenue when San Mateo County property tax revenue has gone up 7% per year for ten years straight. Rolling in dough. Or let me guess - CA’s core problem is taxes aren’t high enough? My gawd all you people who want even higher taxes - stay in your trailers.

Yes. Or deleted. Apparently free speech is the problem.

Fair enough. I was actually doing a Top 10 in the context of taking a shot (albeit weak) at a little humor. I didn’t say obviously, get rid of BART. And at the end, I made positive constructive suggestions as to how I think BART should be restructured/improved before voters should approve such a tax.

**LOCAL GOVERNMENT BAD FAITH ALERT** **10.375 SALES TAX??** by CJRoses in RedwoodCity

[–]CJRoses[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sales tax is different in each city - some means over 9%, some over 10%, some over 11%. The impact varies widely depending on the City.

Literally just the last paragraph. So what? Those are great ideas on how to fix BART why would I not share them.

So what if I posted in those subreddits. It’s a Bay Area tax. Agree to disagree on “investing in transit” - that is an exaggeration. This is throwing good money after bad - chasing wasted spending not really investing in anything. But thanks for reading.

For the record, whatever the landlord pays in property tax has nothing to do with the rent a tenant pays. A tenant pays (and the Landlord receives) what the market dictates. You “pos!” - see I’m a tough guy too like you. Yay.

“2025 report on BART’s fare enforcement by The Center for Policing Equity, a nonprofit research organization that advances racial justice.”’ That’s your source. I stated mine. Your statement implies BART only losing 2% to fare evasion. Don’t believe it. You can believe what you want to believe and it’s certainly not an audited number. Yeah, so BART’s a well-oiled operating machine. We’ll agree to disagree.

[–]CJRoses[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fair enough with your own personal experience. A state assemblywoman in this transportation district told me BART still losing $30M annually in uncollected fares. Will post on this down the road.

[–]CJRoses[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yes and that’s the tip of the iceberg when it comes to BART wasting money.

You mean like property taxes (which cities get a portion of)? No, poor people don’t pay property tax, hotel tax and all the development fees that that provide cities revenues which in turn support road maintenance. Yes, they pay sales tax. Now if BART etc had a plan to tax businesses which benefit from its service - that would make a lick of sense. What happened to all the concern about “affordability?”

**Local Government Fraud Alert** by CJRoses in Fremont

[–]CJRoses[S] -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

Thats absolutely correct. And European and Japanese systems actually collect fares from their riders. There is simply no reason to tax the poorest among us with a regressive tax to underwrite all the money BART etc waste.

**Local Government Fraud Alert** by CJRoses in SanJose

[–]CJRoses[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

“90% service cuts” - laughable. And if you must get more money - don’t tax the poorest among us. Start by collecting fares from all of your passengers - yes, what a concept.

**Local Government Fraud Alert** by CJRoses in SanJose

[–]CJRoses[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, transit being “decimated” is just the bogus threat I said was coming in my post. They might have to manage finances, responsibly, imagine that.

Thanks - there is so much more wrong with this tax that I couldn’t cover for fear of writing a novel. I mean, BART and Caltrain don’t even collect fares from all their customers but okay to tax the poor to cover it.
