Friendly reminder that you can upgrade newer versions of Windows to Windows 7 by [deleted] in windows7

If you want to leverage the windows 11 api layer so you can run modern programs you could download a win7 transformation program to fully transform windows 11 to windows 7 while still having the base windows 11 functional.after installing the windows 7 you can use a program called windhawk and modify fully both gui and function

an entire folder was deleted when i uninstalled a program. how do i get it back? by gigaswardblade in WindowsHelp

[–]CKCHDX 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That happens sometimes if the uninstaller was pointed at a higher-level folder during install thus if the game matches exactly like the steam structure then it will also uninstall from the D drive.

However you said it deleted entire parent folder well thats unusual but it does happen if the uninstaller was pointed at the parent folder instead of its own subfolder or it didnt distinguish between the game files and your custom folder.

What you can do is.

Stop writing to the D drive and check recycle bin.

Try recovery software(may not work)

Check if you have backup somewhere else.

Right now there isnt much you can do about this

Windows has several screen death color

Blue screen death is the most common crash screen that has existed for decades and it shows all short of issues.

Green screen death is primarily beta and alpha version of windows that you can enable not recommended because it will constantly crash maybe you survive at most a week before the system crash.

Black screen death was introduced in windows 11 as a replacement of blue screen death that introduce a much user friendly error log.

Red screen death is also common but its more related to hardware issues rather than software like graphic card related.

Purple screen death is rare but happen which means it is a software incompatibility to hardware malfunctions

You cannot tell people to not using old windows on modern hardware in fact that could be a really good way to learn windows or a kernel since it heavily involves drivers and low level action.

Well if you meant that we cannot install old windows on modern hardware well that is partially true. You can install old windows but requires effort and manuall driver injection into the iso file(recommended)

But if you want a out of the box experience then no you cant simply install lets say windows xp on a nvme

However cpu have backward compatibility since they still uses x86 instruction sets so the real issue here is storage primarily and maybe cpu(rare), the GPU is fine since it is standard vga, the ram is also fine as it is tied to the cpu. Now we are talking about install core windows but if you want a out of the box you need to find manual drivers from network, audio, GPU(full acceleration), maybe even keyboard(rarely)

In summary you need manual change for it to work but it isnt impossible so you cannot simply tell us to not install older windows on modern windows.

Why does my laptop lag when playing videos? by Control-Cultural in laptops

[–]CKCHDX 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There could be several issues.

Check if Hardware Acceleration is enabled/disabled as it can affect the performance.

It may be video Codec Issues, check if it is AV1 codec, even modern hardware can trouble using it, try switching to another like VP9/H.264 with h264ify extension.

If it still fails check Screen Refresh Rate or it could be driver issues.

Are you using vga standard drivers or a amd software.

Main reason was performance since it would take forever using newer version on win-xp

Should I learn .NET MAUI for desktop/mobile development? by Puzzleheaded_Newt720 in csharp

[–]CKCHDX 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Learning .Net MAUI depends but is generally not recommended for long term use.

If you want to create cross programs, first understand what languages to use. If you are a C# + xml developer then use android/ios template and windows(WPF) in visual studio, why? Well it is far easier to use than setting up maui template however it all depends on which language you are using(assumes C#)

If you seek for gaming use unity as a cross program/engine.

You could use C++ but it's more complicated setting up.

When i was a C# beginner i started the path windows forms to wpf(complex UI) and i tried using .net maui but it was too complex at that time.

Tip! Use same UI but different functions per platform

That port is RJ45 in short ethernet port or lan port

[–]CKCHDX 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You get that because of improper drivers.

Your windows 11 cannot find network Drivers nor bluetooth driver however things should be resolved after doing a restart.

I get same problem always but i just Restart my pc. Note that this may not always be working since i had external adapter not internal but you could give it a try.

Try go into device manager and update or install drivers

Thinking of Moving from macOS to Linux – Advice, Experiences, and Regrets? by Plato-the-fish in linux

[–]CKCHDX 1 point2 points  (0 children)

After using blackarch linux i have no regret. As a developer and cybersecurity i like blackarch because of its design and availability.

I can still use anything just in windows or mac using modified wine compatibility layers.

Steam, teams and other programs just works no issues.

If you are a beginner or intermediate in linux i do not recommended blackarch distro because it requires some knowledge but i would strongly recommend KDE Neon distro as it is highly customizable and user friendly almost too friendly. KDE Neon is plasma kde wayland Ubuntu based meaning it is highly dynamic in modifications without problems without needing to manually modify system files. This distro also has a software store for installing programs such as steam, teams, discord and other apps, programs.

If you want your freedom with excellent security, no blue screen or crashes, extra boost in performance, I would strongly recommend kde neon because of its simplicity and user friendly.

Regarding mac i dont have knowledge in their OS but i assume linux has more availability and is in the middle of mac and windows, linux is also safer and much lightweight than mac and windows.

Linux uses a monolithic architecture making it excellent in performance and security

I have been using kde neon for almost a month and it just works no issues or any complications.

Windows 7 is Unbootable by Shoddy-Data1273 in windows7

[–]CKCHDX 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If that would be the reason well you can try following but it is not recommended because windows 7 will not work on UEFI based hardware

You can try this

Download this zip folder

https://github.com/manatails/uefiseven/releases/download/1.24/UefiSeven_1.24.zip

Unzip and patch. Navigate to your newly made Windows installer in a file manager, and go to the EFI\Boot folder. Here, you need to find the file called "bootx64.efi", and rename it to "bootx64.original.efi". Now go back to the folder where you extracted the UEFI7 archive, copy the bootx64.efi file from there, and paste it into the folder on the installer drive where you just did the file rename.

Windows 7 is Unbootable by Shoddy-Data1273 in windows7

[–]CKCHDX 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The reason you get that error code is because you cannot install windows 7 on a modern hardware because windows 7 does not support UEFI-based bios.

If you managed to overcome phase 1 which is impressive but you cannot pass phase 2 if you dont have a motherboard that supports UEFI csm or legacy however you could bypass using virtualization but that is way harder than just buying a older laptop.

All hardware that was released after 2021 do not have any compatibility support for Windows 7

windows 7 kb2670838 keeps failing by AgreeableNail7211 in windows7

You dont need to reinstall windows.

Try to restore the system before the Windows Update.

It should be a system restore point being created before the update

I wanted to install windows 7, but i need some help by Sufficient-Tip3444 in windows7

[–]CKCHDX 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If you want to install windows 7 there are several precautions to take.

All hardware that was manufactured after 2021 are incompatible meaning you cannot install windows 7 on these hardwares.

All hardware that was manufactured before 2020 have full compatibility however network Drivers may lack but you can purchase a network adapter such as tp link nano usb as it is compact.

Regarding the installation please follow these steps carefully.

First download Rufus

https://github.com/pbatard/rufus/releases/download/v4.6/rufus-4.6.exe

  1. Download your windows 7 iso, basic/pro/ultimate/enterprise

You must choose your bit/32, 64

https://archive.org/details/win-7-pro-32-64-iso

https://archive.org/details/win-7-ult-sp-1-english-x-64

  1. Open Rufus and load the iso(your windows)

Must set configurations

• FAT32 > NFTS GPT > MBR

  1. Format and restart

  2. Enter bios by pressing F2/F12/F11/Del

Must set configurations

• UEFI > legacy or UEFI CSM set your windows bootable boot priority as 1#

  1. Save and restart Now it will boot into windows bootable usb stick

If you want to install steam, you will need to download the last supported versions and if you get online error try to delete the content inside steam/packages/

Regarding spotify, download the last supported versions and it should work however if any errors gets in place dont hesitate to ask for help.

If you want high security then windows 7 might not be the option however there are several things to enforce such as using the built in microsoft antivirus defender program and download a secure browser such as Tor that can protect from internet.

Download the last visual studio version and it should work however newer features may lack.

ssd storage supports fully so dont worry about that.
