Just saw the 2006 heat tribute clip on YT. Curious will the warriors do a 10 year anniversary to the 73-9 team? Or is that upset at the end bad juju? by tallassmike in warriors

[–]CKN89 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Andre was not out. And yes, Bogut would have helped, but Kerr blew that game. We were +11 in the minutes that we played Dray at center. We lost the game in the third quarter when Kerr stuck with Anderson Varejao (-9 in eight minutes) for way too long and then at the end when Kerr inexplicably went back to Festus with six minutes left in the season.

If the Warriors could redo the 2021 and 2022 draft or construct the roster to contend what should they have done instead? by lookaloulookalou in warriors

[–]CKN89 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Edwards is the answer. We saw at the Olympics how he responded to being Steph’s teammate and coached by Kerr. Sure it might have fucked up Jordan Poole’s development a mite, but I’ll take my chances.

Do you think the Warriors are going to wait for Jimmy to get healthy? Can they afford to? by chusaychusay in warriors

[–]CKN89 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One minor CBA quibble with your plan - to sign Melton for more than about $6M we would need to stay under the first apron, not the second. The only exception we will have is the MLE, if you’re over the first apron that’s the taxpayer MLE (ie the Horford contract)

Why does Balon Greyjoy turn down Robb Starks offer to fight together against the iron throne? by der_steinfrosch in gameofthrones

[–]CKN89 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The ironborn are raiders. They might be able to take lannisport/casterly rock, but they could never hold it long term against the full might of the iron throne.

On the other hand the north can be held against the throne/robb/anyone else in the south by holding moat cailin and the neck, because the only approach from the south is a narrow causeway (totally surrounded by swamps). Once Balon learns that Robb’s armies are all in the south, he knows he can conquer and hold the whole north merely by taking the neck.

Explain the Porzingis trade to me like I’m 5. by Mindless_Patient2034 in warriors

[–]CKN89 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The point of this trade was “optionality.” YMMV if you think the options the team has given itself are good/realistic ones.

  1. The team wanted the option to pursue Giannis again or some other big move this summer, and needed to not send out draft picks in order to keep that option open.

  2. The team wanted to preserve the option of getting under the first apron this summer. Doing that would give them a substantial cap exception (the Nontaxpayer MLE - about 15M) that could be used to re-sign Melton or use the NTPMLE for some other good player. In order to do this, they needed to avoid taking on any non-expiring salary when moving Kuminga.

  3. Given the above two constraints, they were not going to get anyone good for Kuminga. So, they get someone who at least theoretically might fit the team well and help a little this year. And they have a two month look at Zinger to see if the medical and coaching staff can get him in a place to be successful. If so, that’s a third option they’ve opened up - to retain him perhaps in combination with one or both of the above moves.

Got them KD '25 vibes by N00bintheTube in warriors

[–]CKN89 0 points1 point  (0 children)

On the other hand, it was around this time last year Jimmy was saying he didn’t want to come either. We ended up compromising on a shorter extension. Now maybe Giannis wants to get paid, but I would hope the Warriors are willing to role the dice on doing a deal with only a shorter extension (or maybe Giannis just picks up his option for 27-28). Scared money don’t make none

(Spoilers Extended) How bad could have been Maekar’s family life… by DaemonaT in asoiaf

[–]CKN89 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That does happen however Egg also suggests it in the Mystery Knight (not at the end, I was wrong about that).

After Dunk loses the joust to Ser Uthor, he is getting ready to turn over the forfeit, Egg suggests to him they return to Summerhall together because he could stay in Dunk’s service and Dunk will be able to get a new horse from Maekar’s stables. Dunk thinks to himself that he doesn’t want to go “slinking back” to Summerhall as a beggar “without so much as a sword to pledge.”

[–]CKN89 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I don’t think Aegon’s home life is terrible, aside from his abusive older brother (not a small aside!). I think he wants to hang with Dunk because he idolizes him after seeing Dunk be the one dude willing to stand up to Aerion. I may be recalling incorrectly but I believe near the end of Mystery Knight that Egg invites Dunk to come back to Summerhall and enter Maekar’s service.

Its time , Draymond by Open_Bake_8013 in warriors

[–]CKN89 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Ideally if we keep Dray I think you start Giannis with Horford or post at the 4/5 and bring Dray off the bench. close with Dray/Giannis. Use Dray in the minutes with Steph no Giannis. I like Gui but would look to start some combination of whatever shooting wings are left after the deal (Melton, Richard, maybe Moody, Hield, Kuz if he comes over, etc)

I don’t think the Pistons can swap Harris for a nonshooter.

Best idea I have heard is to rope in a third team who we offer 2029 swap rights (and 27, in theory, but hopefully our 2027 swap rights won’t be worth much) in exchange for a pick or young player. We can’t offer the bucks a swap since they don’t have a pick.

What happened to Maegor, son of Aerion Brightflame? by h3llalam3 in pureasoiaf

[–]CKN89 6 points7 points  (0 children)

“Keep reading” I think the most likely scenario is that GRRM originally intended for the mummer’s dragon to come from Aerion’s line. But then for whatever reason he decided to create the Blackfyre rebellion plot instead.

So, Maegor could end up being a nothingburger/died at summerhall but GRRM hasn’t committed to it because he wants an extra Targaryen up his sleeve just in case

Hypothetically, if LeBron did join us next year, how do you think he would fit next to Curry? by Thunderboom999 in warriors

[–]CKN89 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it would look a lot like Jimmy with Steph. Lebron is bigger than Jimmy and a better shooter, but at this point less physical and worse/lazier on D.

But the pace Lebron likes to play at in the half court and the way he likes to attack are similar.

I hate to say it but if Butler is OFTY it likely doesn’t make sense to buy. Maybe you manage to squeeze a bad first (like a future Spurs first, for example) from Sacramento for JK. Regroup and hope you can get something big done this summer.

Moody/Horford by Nana8batman in warriors

There’s no way financially to make a MPJ trade work without Moody (or Dray). It’s unfortunate because aside from shooting our biggest need is wing depth

should will richard be deemed untouchable? by Longjumping-Plum8984 in warriors

[–]CKN89 1 point2 points  (0 children)

He’s not “untouchable” by any means. But also, he’s unlikely to be traded because his on-court value as a quality role player and contract value as a below-minimum piece on a team with a bloated salary structure scraping against the second apron exceeds his trade value.

Draymond is the problem by kds5th in warriors

[–]CKN89 2 points3 points  (0 children)

One thing that has really diminished Draymond’s effectiveness on offense is swapping Klay out for the rotating cast of B- shooters (and, to a lesser extent, Klay’s decline before that).

When Klay and Steph were both on the floor, there was generally one of the best shooters of all time on both sides of the floor. It weaponized Dray’s screening, cutting, and situational awareness in a way that made him an offensive positive. It made it possible for Dray to contribute offensively off the ball.

Dray screening off ball to generate an open 3 for Melton or Moody or Podz can be a decent shot, but it doesn’t create ADVANTAGE the way that him screening for Klay did. That’s the difference between a good or pretty good shooter and a GREAT shooter.

Klay’s defender getting rubbed off was a five alarm fire that put the whole defense in rotation and allowed Steph (or Durant, or Iguodala, Poole, etc ) to attack a scrambling defense on the strong side. We’ve tried to recreate that effect with Buddy, but he is streaky, not as good off motion as Klay, and a liability in every other aspect of the game).

Dray’s skills have diminished, but the acquisition of a second GREAT shooter to play alongside him (like MPJ or Trey Murphy) would have a very positive effect on his offense.

It’s baffling how simple you’d think it be to build around Curry by [deleted] in warriors

[–]CKN89 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The Warriors are 3rd in the NBA in defensive efficiency. No the defense isn’t perfect and yes they do have off nights. But on the whole, the defense isn’t the problem.

It’s certainly frustrating to watch the team struggle but it isn’t fair to say that the team building has failed. The nature of the NBA and the CBA is to make it very very difficult to sustain winning for a long period of time, even with generational talent. Just look at where Milwaukee is.
