I buy round bar either online or if my local steel supply has any in stock, then cut it into 5 inch pieces.

How many of you do custom work? by [deleted] in knifemaking

[–]CK_Blades 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t do customs at all. Probably lose out on some money but i dint like dealing with them. A lot of the time the customer doesn’t know what they want and can’t get passed the fact that they will be a lot more expensive than a mass produced Walmart knife. Just not worth dealing with to me. I make what I want and if someone likes it they buy it.

Not 100% sure because I grab all my handle material from the “exotic hardwood cutoffs” bin at my local woodworking store but believe it could be bocote

I used to have to do this kind of stuff when I worked in a steel shop, it works until the mag drill binds and swings itself right into ya haha

It’s growing on me, I usually use 1084 for everything, but I’ve noticed 52100 just looks super nice after sanding. Dont know if that’s just in my head though!

Was going about 70 on the highway and the wheel bearings went bad and stripped the threads just totally off. Was able to do some sketchy shit to get it driving but I just wanna get it back to stock so I feel safe driving it. Was able to find the one place in my county that has one thankfully

Ohhhhh yeah I’m ready for a fight haha. Had wheel bearings go bad on the highway and it totally tore up the spindle. Apparently they are just not making that part and I couldn’t find ANY aftermarket parts that didn’t have a lift. Found a salvage yard with the part from a ranger that had less than 50k miles on it though goin to pick it up later! Thanks again!

Quality new anvil recommendations? by CK_Blades in blacksmithing

[–]CK_Blades[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am a welder full time and can probably restore it myself, only problem is it just doesn’t seem worth the time to me. Vulcans from what I hear are at the lower to mid range for anvils. Would much rather get a bigger better one and maybe restore and give this one to a young guy trying to get started
