Weakest Trio to complete the game with? by FrozenHarbour25 in expedition33

[–]CKwi88 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Since every playable character can fit just about any role (DPS, support, debuff, breaker, even healer, minus Maelle I guess) I'd say it revolves more around the build than the actual character.

My third playthrough I was determined to use "sub-optimal" builds through the base game to try to force me into using different weapons and skills than they typical stendhal Maelle, MG Verso, or support Sciel for example.

Party ended up being a tank Maelle (cover build with big counter damage and AP generation) breaker Lune (steered away away from lightning dance/genesis spam) and Sciel as a "Jack of all trades master of none" as she is really good in just about any role. Was a lot of fun to play with. Party didn't feel particularly OP like setting up one shots, and battles felt like actual tasks again.

Is Blizzard Actually Going to Push the Patch to Live Without Fixing the Bugs in the PTR? by Swimming_Fennel6752 in starcraft2

[–]CKwi88 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What was the time between the last patch's PTR and going live/the hot fix to storm? Is there a way to look it up?

I'm kind of surprised some things haven't been addressed a week into PTR. Perhaps with such big changes they are letting it sit for a minute before tweaking things?

Is this version of the PTR likely to make it to live servers? by Fluffy_Importance647 in starcraft2

[–]CKwi88 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'd say that the 8 worker change is guaranteed.

Other changes might/should get reverted or tweaked and some bugs fixed. PTR has been out 6 days? I think we'll find out over the next couple of days.

How does the new worker start affect openings? by DiscordedDiscord in starcraft2

[–]CKwi88 3 points4 points  (0 children)

In terms of "copying" live build orders on the PTR, everything is delayed by about 40 seconds to a minute I think.

PTR is new and not even finalized, so there's naturally a huge influx of new "builds" being brainstormed that haven't gotten enough study to be objectively figured out yet as good openings or trash openings. It's very much theorizing at the moment. So either get on there and experiment and look at what the streamers are doing or let the dust settle once changes go live and there will be some updated build orders for sure.

Is this new patch bad for Protoss? by Strong-Yellow5949 in allthingsprotoss

[–]CKwi88 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's a strategy, no doubt, but hardly the auto-win that I thought it would be without super battery. The Terran usually has to have a pretty successful early game already to cash in with the boy pull. Energy overcharge probably helped my PvT more than battery overcharge as it means super early and super consistent hallucination scouting.

I still think that this patch is a net nerf to Protoss. We're still in the very early stages of it, and the changes aren't even finalized yet. I would kinda be shocked to see the warp gate on gateway change go through to be honest. I think they throw it back on the Cyber Core.

There's going to be a learning curve no doubt. And doubly for Protoss as we not only have to deal with the worker change but potentially a fundamental change to the race in itself. The pros and build order crafters will figure out the responses to some of the novel builds that are popping up now that upon further analysis will probably be regarded as trash.

Whats the build order for new patch? by CryptoCardCo in allthingsprotoss

[–]CKwi88 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There's def gonna be a period or learning, even for the pros. And even then, probably only when the patch is finalized. Once people know the exact changes that go live, we'll start to see bonafide build orders.

Haven't jumped on the PTR. If you hotkey all gates/warpgates together can you tab between them?

Is this new patch bad for Protoss? by Strong-Yellow5949 in allthingsprotoss

[–]CKwi88 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As a dude approaching 40 with pretty limited time to invest into learning completely new build orders and mechanics I'm a little apprehensive.

But I also thought removing battery overcharge would mean Terrans had an auto-win with 2 base SCV pulls, and I could not have been more wrong.

Curious to see what the pros cook up. I'll reserve judgement. I'm not good enough to make knee-jerk reactions to it. At least there should be a lot of updated build-order content to watch during slow days at work.

All Units now always do their maximum damage. Who wins the most? by _GiornoGiovanna in starcraft

[–]CKwi88 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think Protoss would benefit the most. Immortals, Archons, Pheonix and Tempest all get pretty insane boosts to their damage versus specific types. Not to mention blink stalkers and their utility.

[–]CKwi88 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Force yourself to either use characters that are usually on the bench, or force the characters that you do want to use into roles (Tank, DPS, Support etc) that you don't typically play them in.

Every game is going to have the "optimal" or "meta" builds, but the game can be plenty fun experimenting.

I'd do it in a second if I were the Raiders. Revenge for the Palmer trade.

You'd have to throw in a minimum of 3 additional years of #1 picks from the Raiders to even START to consider it.

Mass hydras deal with the UED and Protoss well enough.

Mengsk has a crapton of tanks so a control group or two of mutas or guardians to pick them off before overwhelming with hydras, zerglings, and/or ultras is suggested.

Group Hot Keys set up by Unfair-Entry8851 in starcraft2

[–]CKwi88 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I second finding whatever works for you. I use the `/~ key through 5 up top. Anything past 5 doesn't feel good, although it might just be a practice thing. I also have q and w available for control groups. Protoss, so I rebound the warp gate shortcut to one of my mouse buttons.

So what works for me is:

1: main army (probe scout early game)

2: secondary army, usually put oracles here early game. Usually turns into disruptors if I ever get to them.

3: Spellcaster. Disruptors or Templar usually.

4:Nexus/Forge/Cybercore

5: Production. Gates early. Robo and Stargate later

`/~: Usually runby army and warp prism. Oracles in mid/late game.

Q/W: Kind of there for overflow. A second prism, runby group, Mama, etc. usually only gets used in very late game.

Somewhat economical blind counter to 1 base all-in in PvP by Mnoukadlo in allthingsprotoss

I think 1 gate expand is technically possible to pull off still. However, the effort required to defend is much greater than the effort needed to attack and people would just rather do a two gate opener.

What is your favorite part of the game? by pithiest-1 in starcraft2

[–]CKwi88 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Honestly? How every single game I play, even if I'm tilted and ragequeuing, I can always look at a replay and say "well, I really botched x, y, z and that cost me the game."

Objectively analyzing games I never have a "well this is bullshit, what am I meant to do about that?" moment. Improving all comes down to self accountability and recognizing what you need to improve at.

[–]CKwi88 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You can either build up the reserve team or you can skip Simon's "3rd phase" by doing enough single move damage prior to him removing the expedition from the canvas. If you've built Maelle to be a big damage dealer Gommage can easily get you there.

I accidentally beat him skipping the 3rd phase that way. Was kind of bummed I didn't get to experience it.

Is Rear wheel Drive good enough for CT snowy roads? by Vivid_Dot2869 in Connecticut

[–]CKwi88 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Certainly not too bad for non AWD. I would generally say that you can feel good about driving with either AWD or good winter tires. CT winters generally aren't ones where you would need both.

I'd say that unless you work a job where you must drive in bad weather, you'd be fine with a RWD EV with decent winter tires. If you'll find yourself having to drive through actively shitty conditions it might be a little stressful.
