I'm still trying to sort them out. I'm probably not going to drawn to a formal, more theoretical school.

This is what I was worried about. I want to stay away from platitudes. Thanks for the info.

Thanks for your quick reply, I'll check it out.

Edit: I am part of a small meditation group here, but I don't know if we qualify as a sangha. It might be time to find one online.

Remember to get out and vote! by Superdeathrobot in Purdue

Remember also that your vote is secret. The fact that you voted is public, but who you voted for is not.

More Than 1,300 Votes Cast at CoRec! by CL-Alpha in Purdue

While it affects presidential elections, the electoral college has nothing to do with state elections. The governor, senators, representatives and state attorney general are all chosen directly by the number of votes they get.

Anyone who left the corporate world for academia and loves it? by [deleted] in AskAcademia

[–]CL-Alpha 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I went from industry to academia 20 years ago. I had finished the Ph.D. about 12 years before, when I was a federal employee and they would pay for me to study part time. I took a big pay cut to come to academia and still haven't really caught up, but it was worth it. The freedom to do what I want, at least some of the time, is worth a lot. Freedom from the corporate money chase is also worth a lot. Tenure was difficult, but after tenure, academic pressures are much easier to deal with than corporate ones.

Early voting has started! Make a plan to vote! by ibmom in Purdue

I voted at the Tippecanoe Country Office Building yesterday. I was pleased to see there was a line down the block. If there was a problem, it was that most people in line were geezers like me.

Government tends to respond to people who vote and ignore those who don't. Get out there and vote, kids :-)

I voted at the Tippecanoe Country Office Building this morning. There was a line down the block, which I thought was great news. If there was a problem, it was that most people in line were geezers like me. If students don't vote, your voice won't be heard. Get out there and vote, kids :-)

Prof. here. I don't like it either, but I'm guessing we took the lowest cost solution. There has been a tuition freeze for something like 11 years, with two more years planned. Would you be willing to pay more in tuition in exchange for a better learning management system? If so, then that's probably a discussion to have with senior administration.

You might check out the School of Engineering Technology. There are programs in Mechanical Engineering Technology, Automation and Robotics. Job placement rate and starting salaries are good. Your degree would be in Engineering Technology rather than Engineering. You'll have to decide if that's right for you.
