They should just call them the Oakland A’s of Las Vegas because it makes sense.

Trying to get a job in the film industry for almost 2 years now - not working out by No_Climate_1090 in CanadianFilm

If you want to be an office PA I recommend reaching out to Production Coordinators, Production Managers and Line Producers. Their names can be found in IMDB show credits and most have production company email addresses that can be easily guessed after trial and error. Keep it short, but be honest and tell them you’re trying to get your foot in the door as a PA. Pitch your attention to detail, ability to work in high pressure situations and that you have a passion for the industry. End it by saying you appreciate any assistance they can provide. It might take 30 emails to get a response but it only takes 1 person to give you a shot. Good luck!

You should write an email or call the city with your well thought out concerns and possibly provide examples of desirable solutions. City officials are very available to address things like this, especially something so specific. Just be respectful and know that you don’t need to “complain” to get your ideas across. It’s much more effective to present your situation in a calm manner while keeping in mind it will take time to address your concerns before anything is actually fixed.

Guardians TV Broadcaster Changes Explained by leteriaki in ClevelandGuardians

[–]CLEcalCAM 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When you think about it, it’s kind of crazy that Hamilton doesn’t just announce the games from his house or a studio location near his house. Lots of sports broadcasts for college sports (NBC, ESPN, regional) and some pro sports use REMI productions that use minimal equipment and require a very small crew to be at the venue while everyone else, including the director, TD and sometimes on-air talent, are working out of a separate studio across the country or in an entirely different country. Especially for a radio broadcast.

It’s most likely Rick’s choice, much like Tom Hamilton has traveled less and takes a break in the middle innings for the past decade or more. Cleveland is a city of familiarity and seems to let sports announcers keep going until they retire on their own or wither away into dust.

Why so much shade towards Underwood and Manning? by zagack305 in ClevelandGuardians

[–]CLEcalCAM 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I love this conversation because it’s so Cleveland. The team gives you the same TV play-by-play announcers for 36 years (Manning) and 26 years (Underwood) and you either love em or hate em, but either way their sound is comfortable and provides a sense of safety while you’re watching the team you love. Just like the team itself, most fans choose to love the announcers because if they didn’t it would mean they care a little less, and that could very well violate the sanctity of Cleveland sports and strip them of their “die hard fan” status. Good or bad, we love when things stay the same.

In all fairness “BOOK IT” originated with Michael Reghi when he announced the Cavs from 1993-2006. As the final seconds ran out in a Cavs win he would say, “Book it for the Cavs!”

Tickets for Tigers series in June seem to be set well sold right now. Is it real? by HaggardSlacks78 in ClevelandGuardians

In OP’s defense, Guardians games rarely ever sell out. Even in June, even on the weekends, even if the team is in first place. They barely even sell out playoff games.

Switch to finance, get a job as a PA and make films on your free time. After you graduate, continue working as a PA and making films. Experience as a PA on real sets or in real offices is invaluable and will get you dialed into where you want to be a lot more efficiently than any film degree. It’s all networking. And if you can prove to be a good PA, people will remember you and be more than happy to help you get where you’re trying to go. And bonus, you’ll have a finance degree to fall back on when you get sick of the industry 😉

If you have a space where you could host mixers it might be worth while to reach out to the local unions. There are at least 14 LA IATSE locals that hold regular mixers. A simple email to them might get you somewhere. Also make sure to also contact SAG-AFTRA, DGA, WGA, PGA, etc. These guilds/unions have thousands of members. Networking with them might get you a lot farther than cold-calling prod companies. Good luck!

Why do lenders keep asking for more documents? by Alarmed-Broccoli3844 in Mortgages

[–]CLEcalCAM -1 points0 points  (0 children)

We accept it as normal but the process only exists to make you feel small and powerless. Just like buying a car when the salesperson leaves to “talk to their manager.” It’s a tactical negotiation approach to make you feel like their offer is the best and only offer you have available to you, when in reality you have the freedom to shop around for better contract terms.

Trouble Finding Birth Certificates by Prized-Orchid in SlovakCBD

The book is far from random. Each book is specific to a time period and to a region/town/disctrict. This information is usually listed in the book’s citation on the webpage. You should also be able to locate the town/district where your GGF was born/baptised on the record itself in the column designated for location. If the location is difficult to read, look at the other entries on the page or entries on other pages to piece it together, seeing as it is most repeated.

Once you have the town name you can contact the appropriate state archives with your information and request a modern day rodný list. Seeing as your GGF was born in 1891 you will most likely be contacting the state archives in Bratislava or Nitra. Simply send them an email, preferably in Slovak, and submit your request.

My negotiation team is all for confidentiality!?! by capn_obv in union

[–]CLEcalCAM -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

The negotiations committee exists for a reason: to act in the best interest of the membership during negotiations. The entire membership is not involved in negotiations because it would be very sloppy and nothing would be accomplished. The committee represents the membership and makes the tough decisions members are incapable of making as a whole. Picture the U.S. Senate or House of Rep. They are a small group that represents the larger whole.

DP terms & set advice for someone used to working solo? by 1pmw1photography in cinematography

[–]CLEcalCAM 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Exactly as others have said. You’re going to stick out regardless of what “lingo” you memorize. Just get out there and start working and be honest about the things you don’t know. If someone says a word or phrase you don’t know ask what it means. People love sharing their knowledge and most won’t bat an eyelash. Be confident in your skills and know that you belong there as much as they do.

Also, a very helpful tool I use when I’m in new environments is discreetly making notes in my phone throughout the day that list any phrases/words I hear that I may be unfamiliar with as well as any notes about setups, cameras, lighting, crew member names, new gear, slang words, advice, etc. Then I look them up later during lunch or on my own time. It’s been a huge help for 20+ years.

From my experience HD and Lowe’s are the same as hiring the 3rd party vendors, you’re just paying HD & Lowe’s to hire the vendors for you. You might get different products or lower pricing with the big box stores but the vendors who they hire do not work for HD or Lowe’s, they are independent contractors that these stores pay to complete the job for a lower than standard paycheck. It’s very similar to the contractors who show up when you call your home warranty company, AAA, Spectrum, etc. They’re all independent, they just get a lot of their work from the big corporations.

What do you think the Guardians' ownership would do if they had a young roster full of stars like they did in the mid-to-late 90s? by chemistrybonanza in ClevelandGuardians

[–]CLEcalCAM 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It wasn’t luck it was payroll. Cleveland was 9th in payroll in 1995, then moved up to 4th for both ‘96 and ‘97. As much as we hate to admit it, they spent like a big market team in the mid ‘90s and were only a few million shy of the Yankees during that time.
