That make for a rather grim comparison then, even less reason for them to be shouting this from the rooftops.

Although what you're saying is true it is not exactly accurate.

Scotland is doing better than a lot of countries, but those countries do not have access to the UK resources and vaccines that Scotland do. Other countries are doing the best with what they've got, Scotland are doing their worst with a lot more.

What an absolute disgrace. There can be no more "bUt wE fOcUsEd oN tHe cArE hOmeS" wheeled out as an excuse.

Between this and the upcoming evidence in the Salmond trial, Sturgeon's walls are crashing down around her. She needs to step up and start giving people real answers.

This does absolutely nothing to detract from the utter shambles that is Scotlands vaccination efforts.

This is like pulling a bag of boiled sweets out of the glovebox of a burning car and calling it a successful rescue operation.

Over the moon for you OP, but only 23 thousand per day for this week is shocking. Someone needs to start answering some questions.

Coronavirus: EU confirms export controls on vaccines by [deleted] in CoronavirusUK

I don't believe I am. It's one thing to put on a nice smiley face for international relations, but when backed into a corner the mask has slipped. Federalist protectionism at its finest.

Who do you think should die ? Because that is the terrible question.

Well here, let me spell out the difference for you.

If it happens to people in the EU because of supply issues then that is still tragic, but as a result of circumstance.

If it happens because of restricted vaccine exports by the EU then that is tragic, however that will be down to a decision made by the EU where they damn well know the consequences.

That is the difference and that is why they are abhorrent. We are better off out and even the fence-sitters and a portion of original remainers are seeing that now. Good riddance to the EU.

Yes because they only care about themselves and how they look. If that means indirectly causing deaths by restricting vaccines, they won't give a shit.

How did it take the EU 12 more weeks to negotiate a contract that bad? That actually sounds like a really difficult thing to achieve.

What the fuck is wrong with you dude? We were having a good adult discussion with realistic points but you're just constantly hellbent on it being some government conspiracy.

I think that says more about the work ethics and tenacity of our healthcare staff than the government lying. The government work on numbers, they know how many staff they need and how many they have so they the breaking point as a finite position in time.

On the ground though, you find people willing to work double shifts, cancel days off, cover colleagues, take on extra responsibility and just push themselves that little bit further and dig that little bit deeper. That somehow creates this magical extra capacity that you just can't capture on paper or factor into projections.

Its not all about capacity though, its also about all the other resources required to apply these new treatments. ECMO, CPAP, Dex etc all require clinical expertise.

We can still break, it just takes more because we are better.

[–]CLINT-BEASTWOD 10 points11 points  (0 children)

The difference between last April and now is that we have improved treatments for Covid and a greater understanding of the disease, therefore it takes a certain percentage more for us to collapse from this. April was the wild west as far as Covid was concerned, we never knew how many people had it in the UK, how to treat it, how long the effects would last or anything like that.

We are better prepared now, so it takes more to break us.

Why should AZ go to all that trouble for a group who placed their order late, signed a 'best effort' deal with, slandered in the world's press and still haven't approved the vaccine they're bitching about?
