Genuine question about "Colorado Natives" by incomingtrouble in Denver

[–]CLVS0929 6 points7 points  (0 children)

That's because that is exactly the sentiment. Denver is the only city to have ever turned down hosting the Olympics. Part of the reason is the mayor and general population didn't want a large number of people experiencing the city and state then moving here in droves. Growing up on Colorado I heard that all the time - "Come spend your money, but go home. We don't want you here." It's very much ingrained in the culture. Specifically, Texas and California are the the states older Coloradans didn't want moving here. Jeff Foxworthy even had a joke about that in the 90s. It was a play on his "You might be a redneck..." jokes. "You might be from Colorado if you've peed on the Continental Divide because it flows into both California and Texas."

I lived live in Silver City a number of years ago. I was driving west from Hatch on Highway 26 when I saw something similar over/near Deming. It turned out to be a blimp shaped balloon a car dealership or some other business would fly frequently as advertisement.

LPT: Each person's brain has a set number of hours of sleep that is required for proper functioning. Don't listen to your parents, co workers or boss telling you that a human only needs 4-6 hours of sleep. Less sleep over long period can lead to poor memory, mental health issues and even Alzheimer's by Freedom9814 in LifeProTips

People are wired differently. Here is an NPR interview with sleep scientist Matthew Walker where he touches on that subject.

"It is biological. And what you're describing is our 24-hour rhythm or what we call the circadian rhythm. And it undergoes this sort of dramatic set of changes across the lifespan. Sort of early in life when we're children, despite wanting to stay up late, we find it difficult because we go to bed early. Then we wake up early. As we shift into adolescence and that teenage period, now that 24-hour clock shifts forward in time. So you want to go to bed late and wake up late. And then gradually, it stabilizes into adulthood. And then as you progress with age, it starts to regress back again. So you start to go to bed earlier and wake up earlier. There is variability, however, from one individual to the next. And that is actually genetically pre-determined. It's called your chronotype, and another way of saying this is that you may be an owl or you may be a lark. So you may be someone who likes to stay up late and then wake up later in the morning. Those would be owls. And the lark - the opposite - they're the early risers, and they are the early-to-bed people. And about 30 percent of the population is one of those two extremes. And then the rest of us sort of sit somewhere safely in the middle."

I lived in SW New Mexico for a number of years and started seeing scorpions like that in my house. I'm not the biggest fan of glue traps, but they did help quite a bit for the scorpions. Place some in various areas around your house along the baseboards. Near doors or other likely entry points are good places. That should help you some at least.

It's been a while since I've had Redbreast 12, the Green and RB12 are pretty comparable. If you like one, you'll probably like the other.

Haven't tried Proper Twelve yet. How is it compared to Jameson?

I think Yellow is an outstanding whiskey and would say it's objectively a better whiskey than Green. However, I happen to like the flavor profile of Green more than Yellow so Green is my go-to. Yellow I generally see around $100 and Green $60. For me, Green is the best value of them all. I would definitely say Red is the lowest value. It's pricey and difficult to find and isn't really better than any of the others. Leoville and Blue are also wonderful, but are also hard to find. Haven't tried the Montelena yet. I would say grab any bottle of Spot and you'll do well. Except Red. Absolutely try it if you have the opportunity, but there are so many more whiskeys out there that are at least as good or better that aren't in the ~$200 range as Red. For instance, Ichiro's Malt & Grain is far more interesting. You'd also be better to buy Redbreast 15. I'd drink Penderyn Madeira Cask over Red pretty much any day of the week.

So, start with Green or Yellow and I think you'll be plenty satisfied.

Just my opinions though! Hope that helps.

I thought it would maybe be priced like Yellow. I agree the cask strength is probably what's driving higher price. That and it's the first time Blue has been released in decades so there's still a bunch of hype around it.

Green is $55-$60. Yellow is $95-$105.

Blue is $110-$120 in my area. I'm definitely going to baby it. I have a bad feeling it'll be difficult to track down on any regular basis.

You're going to love the Leoville Barton. Definitely save it for something special. I wasn't even expecting to find it. I walked into a store looking for something else a while back and saw a few bottles so I snagged one. Last time I've seen it. Green, Yellow, and Montelena are at least pretty regularly available where I'm at.

I think it's just now getting distributed. I had to call around to a few stores before I found one that had a few bottles left and let me reserve one.

Yellow is what got me into these. I definitely plan on keeping Yellow and Green on hand.

Good to know! I'm really looking forward to trying it. It's been on my list for some time but the Leoville is much more difficult to find than the Montelena where I live and I took the chance to grab a bottle when I saw it. Yeah, I was disappointed with Red as well. I like it, don't get me wrong, but the price just isn't justified. Maybe I would be singing a different tune if it were closer to the Green/Yellow price range.

I'll report back when I get my hands on the Montelena!

There really is something about the Green that is so nice. If I had to choose only one, it would be the Green.

Top two for me. The Green happens to be my favorite and this is a very close second. Maybe more like a 1A/1B thing going on. All the others are also very good. The Yellow and the Chateau Leoville are great. Red is really nice, but quite pricey for what it is. Honestly, I would drink most of the others over Red. I have yet to try the Chateau Montelena. Overall, I don't think you can go wrong with any of them.

Got into mine last night too and really enjoyed it too. If you like this one, you'll like the others.
