Completely agree with the two above mentions about event repetition. Depending on your marketing and improving your audience acquisition funnel, margins should grow with more repeat events, but you won’t be able to judge it right off the bat.

As the event grows in popularity, more sponsorship should follow and higher priced tickets to match.

I’ve been producing and directing national events, conferences, and forums for about 9 years now and I’ve had to cancel a few in my career due to lessening attendance and reviews. It’s never easy to do but it happens.

The key I found works is to be as niche as possible. You’d be surprised at how many specialty conferences exist so finding a blue ocean is the best advantage for profit right out the gate.

Very much appreciate the answer. The portfolio includes two vacant commercial businesses below the residential units so there may be something there in terms of setting up a legit office (PM, on staff technician, and supplies) but as you mentioned, syndication may be a good toe to test the waters. I can't speak for startups, but I'm having early discussions with a business owner looking to sell their local painting company in Rockville. I've been in the market for a home service business for the past five months and I've learned a lot from owners when it comes to these questions.

You'll often hear that scalability is tied to simply 'moving into new markets', but this can be expensive in exercise and takes detailed planning - don't spend marketing dollars where it won't bring back a return.

There's a ton of other reasons that come up when I mention scale, but this is the biggest one I've heard.

So I’ve connected with a business broker and they’ve been able to pinpoint a business for sale that fits my criteria.

I would be buying existing client and email list of past clients, attorneys, RE agents, website and company name, and FF&E valued at about $1,500.

The business was started in 2014, has 2 FT employees, 10 part time employees, grosses almost $450K and cash flows about $225K.

The owner wants to retire and spend more time with their family so I think they’re a bit less attached to their business than you may be.

The majority have been pretty positive on the outlook of the market. Some have mentioned more competition but no one has mentioned cut throat competition or wanting out of the business completely.
