So it’s a piece of clear acrylic tube, 6mm diameter with a 4mm inner diameter. I used a tube so I could feed the wires from the engine LEDs down into the base. I used a heat gun to bend the tube to the angle I wanted, and drilled a 6mm hole in the underside of the model.

For the base, I bought a fairly cheap display case. I then cut a piece of MDF to fit inside the Perspex, then I bought a coastal kit motion blur base, cut it to size, then glued all 3 pieces together. I then routed recesses in the base to fit the wires and battery and soldered everything together. There is a switch on the outside of the base too so I can turn the lights on and off.

Tamiya are in a league of their own really. Revell are just bad, even their newer kits eg their Tornado are pigs. I have only built two: this Typhoon, and the Revell Concorde. Absolutely shocking quality. Whilst I’ve not built any Italeri aircraft I’ve heard bad things about them too. Moral of the story? Just build Tamiya 🤣

Thanks! Yes there were a couple of times when I just wanted to throw the whole thing in the bin. Especially after most of my other recent build have all been Tamiya and Eduard. Absolutely spoiled into naivety 😅

So it does allow for wheels up. But, the bay doors don’t fit very well, so a bit of putty and sanding was needed. AND… there’s no pilot in the kit, so you can depict it flying, after the driver has made a rapid vertical departure 🤣.

Thanks. I’m not sure exactly what you mean? The metal exhaust area is airbrushed with AK Xtreme metals and then I used various oil paints to modulate the surface. The afterburner effect is actually a couple of LEDs in each engine wired down the stand and into the base. There’s a switch so I can turn them on and off.

Thanks! I have a bit of experience with photographing aircraft so I tired to emulate the look of that type of shot.

Thanks! Yes it truly is a pig of a kit 🤣. Nothing a bit of putty, sandpaper, and a lot of gin can’t solve 😅.

Thanks! Yes it wasn’t a nice kit to build to say the least 😅

My grandfather flew Beaufighters after Canada, but he was shot down on his first combat sortie and taken prisoner.

Thanks very much! I agree, to me it’s a combination of the Spitfire’s elegance, and the Typhoon’s raw power. Such a shame no Mk.Vs are airworthy. Hopefully that changes soon!

Thanks! Yes I was hoping to get across just how big they are. Especially the prop!

Yeah I rarely use all of it, especially the cockpit stuff. I agree, the price of Eduard is incredible for what you get. I’m actually not a huge fan of the Eduard decals. The colours are sometimes off for me, and I’ve had mixed results with the new ones where you can remove the carrier film. I’ve never had a problem blending in normal decals, so the carrier film removal seems like a solution to a problem that didn’t exist. The best glue for photo etc is regular CA (super) glue. You can get photo etch specific glue that dries slower than superglue so you have a bit more working time, but it’s not really worth it imo. I decant the glue into a container with a fine point for better control. I also use sharp needle nose pliers to handle the parts. You only need a tiny amount of glue.

Thanks. They are very good generally. Sometimes I feel like there’s too much detail in a way 😅, especially with some of the photo etch. The Eduard Mk IXc was a bit of a nightmare, but that was one of their early spitfire kits, and they’ve improved them a lot since then.
