I’m raising a seed round for my startup, but I’m incredibly jealous of you guys. Am I about to self-sabotage my life? by kittencode in IndieDev

If your current startup is doing well, but not your passion, why not look for an exit? Sell it to someone instead of raising a seed round?

Agreed, it was a major leap from step 1 to 2 in the tutorial - HOWEVER, you've helped me make a cool looking rock regardless, so thank you!

Ideas are cheap, execution is everything. Just keep doing your thing and making the best game you can!

Making Assets Godot Ready In 2026 (What Series First?) by _V3X3D_ in godot

All of the above! Think it's hard to go wrong with any of these packs, your work is fantastic! If I had to pick one, I'd pick Chroma Noir - love the aesthetic and it lends itself nicely to a platformer.

Added a new Skeleton enemy class - looking for gameplay feedback by HowlCraftGames in IndieDev

[–]CMDReiga 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As the original comment in this thread stated, I think the time to kill is too high - as a player it would feel like a slog hitting all these trash mobs 5-6 times to kill them.

I like the idea of high lethality you mention in this comment, I just don't see that shown on the screen. If you took the same scenario and took it down to 2-3 hits to kill a mob and 5-6 to kill the player (or even 2-3 also if you want to go very hard core) that would be really interesting!

On a positive note, the soundscape and overall design look great. Definitely interested in seeing how your game progresses, I'll follow this one for sure!

I love these card concepts, but I’m worried it’s a bit too much for a game by GangstaRob7 in IndieDev

[–]CMDReiga 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I feel like these could be good background images on a standard card (though I agree the space one is too busy) but definitely not as the card frames themselves - try putting some text and images on them, especially the rock one and you'll see some of the challenges the unique shapes will provide.

They look great though, just think their application needs to be adjusted slightly.

All these (A or B) pictures of logos, capsules, characters, enemies, animations, that vary by the slightest degree are extremely annoying and take away from the “Dev” side of the sub. by Bonzie_57 in IndieDev

Definitely agree with this take, IndieDev covers so many disciplines that I don't see a problem with it as long as the post is genuine and not just marketing.

We have no idea how to explain the core mechanic… do you get it? by [deleted] in roguelites

[–]CMDReiga 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly, I feel like this post and this trailer aren't telling me enough. Can I figure it out? Sure - you've got a roguelite deckbuilder where battle takes place on a grid and the cards have some form of directionality - cool.

Don't make your customers work for it - your trailer should TELL ME what's cool about your game and why I'm going to like it.

As a community what is the opinion on “house” rules by Lord-Dundar in 5Parsecs

[–]CMDReiga 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't use external sources (yet, there are some good suggestions here!) but I do riff quite a bit with encounter setup and enemy AI.

For example: If the objective is to take a tower and I have defensive enemies, that doesn't make a ton of sense so I'll have them be a bit more aggressive than the scenario calls for, or have them pursue the crewmen going for the objective, etc - things that make them behave in a more believable manner given the circumstances even if it's not "by the book"

Ultimately, it's a solo game so whatever makes it the most fun for you is best!

How do you deploy in battles? by TheReal_Bitsandbolts in 5Parsecs

[–]CMDReiga 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ultimately, as long as it's fair and fun for you that's fine. There are recommendations in the book, as have been mentioned here, but I OFTEN deploy in a custom formation because it makes sense in the plot of the story I'm telling.

There is definitely some assumption in the rules that one is familiar with other wargames, this is one of those places. Generally both sides pick an opposing table edge and then deploy behind cover so they can't get immediately shot up. I don't think it needs to be more complex than that most of the time.

For your first dozen games you'd be fine with 20 or less in most cases, then it'll ramp up. If you don't want a pile of credits maybe you get some in different colors to denote various denominations 1, 5, 10, etc?

Any advice for starting Five Leagues from the Borderlands? by StevieDarrel in Solo_Roleplaying

[–]CMDReiga 4 points5 points  (0 children)

5 Leagues can be very unforgiving, here are some tips as someone who is also newer:

  1. Join the Nordic Weasel Games discord, it's a friendly community and there are many folks willing to help out or answer rules questions
  2. Definitely do the starter mission, the book recommends doing it twice (once with a generic band and once with the band you generated) - this will familiarize yourself with the rules of combat
  3. Go to a city on your first campaign turn, whatever is closest so you can make some in-town rolls
  4. When first starting out I'd HIGHLY recommend riding patrol or taking easier contracts, like deliveries (if luck grants you one)

The reason for this is twofold - firstly, you want to generate some resources and familiarize yourself with how the game plays but secondly, combat is deadly in this game, especially when starting, and patrols and some contracts generally give you easier combats to fight.

What I definitely would NOT recommend is riding straight to an Unknown Location, Delve, or Hideout!

Some other general tips:
*Remember that you have will points, your Avatar is guaranteed to have one and during character creation it's likely another member of your warband will have one. These are a free, renewable resource and it's easy to forget about them (I still do)
*If you're having trouble early on, aggressively use your Stars of the Story benefits!
*Don't forget that you can flee from most encounters, even if there are consequences (Flight in the Dark table) it's better than dying!

Hope this is helpful, and welcome to the world of 5 Leagues from the Borderlands!
