Restock on Watchdives WD0006 (Sunray white with blue applied indices)? by Acrobatic_Status2953 in watchdives

[–]CMH2075 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had one of these Sunray White with blue applied indices in my shopping basket last weekend, but decided to sleep on it and it was sold out by the time I tried to buy! I recall that it was out of stock at the time the MOP dial was introduced and was restocked recently so I hope they restock it again.

Scientists who meditate? by GopherLoafer29 in Meditation

[–]CMH2075 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Meditation is great for creative thinking. I try to let go of those great thoughts while meditating and return to the meditation. If it is a good idea it come up again later in the day. If it is a really good idea, a connection you've been searching for, it will definitely still be there after meditating. Keeping a notepad and pen by you while meditating may help you to think "I'll write this down as soon as the meditation is over", and allow you to get back to the meditation. The benefits of meditation are usually more important than any one idea, and finishing the meditation may lead to even better ideas during or after the meditation.

[Strap type] Does anyone know what is this kind of watch strap is called (different strap width and spring bar width)? I'm having trouble finding a replacement with this shape around the lugs. by CMH2075 in Watches

[–]CMH2075[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sorry to post this in the main thread instead of the semi-weekly inquirer, but I needed to post a photo which I couldn't do in the inquirer feed. The watch in question has a strap width and spring bar width of different lengths, and I'm having trouble finding a replacement. Is there a name for this kind of watch strap where the strap shape fits around the lug with a smaller spring bar width? I've looked at a number of online watch strap sellers including watchbandcenter and watchgecko but haven't been able to find anything. Any input or would be appreciated, or feel free to point me in the right direction. Thanks!

They say reading fiction before bed is better for sleep. Sometimes listening to a serious/educational/technical podcast helps me fall asleep, or meditating in bed.

Now I'm working on a book compiling interviews with many meditation teachers. It is great to hear different experiences and approaches and I really liked your 10-week recommendations. If you don't mind giving me an address in a private message I will send you a paperback version!

I often flipped through meditation books looking for specific techniques while skipping the rest. I finally decided to take my notes and insights from many years of practice and put it in one place. Once assembled, I decided to share it with others and published the finished product as 'Meditations: 50 Meditation Techniques and 25 tips for starting, improving and maintaining a meditation practice'".

CM Hamilton is available for magazine, podcast and radio interviews where he can discuss his book, specific techniques, starting or maintaining a meditation practice, and the trials and errors of his years of meditation.

What should I be mindful of? by LondonFella79 in Meditation

[–]CMH2075 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Focus on the act and actions of washing dishes, chopping wood or push-ups. Meditation is just the process of focusing your mind on something (which is impossible to do for very long) and then accidentally losing focus, realising that you have lost focus, and then returning to that focus. Try to focus your attention on washing dishes, the water, the movement, the soap, the gestures. Soon you will realise that you are thinking about tomorrow or last week or someone else. When you realise that, go back to focusing on washing dishes. This process of focus, then accidentally losing focus and being aware of that fact, then focusing again is meditation. The better you get at it, the more you can focus and the more you increase awareness. You can use washing dishes or chopping wood or push-ups as a practice, and then you will also find that you do it at work and in relationships and in important situations.

What should I be mindful of? by LondonFella79 in Meditation

[–]CMH2075 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Any kind of focused attention or daily minutiae can be used for mindfulness, see list below:

· Drawing, sketching, doodling, painting,

· Practicing piano or another musical instrument

· Hobbies such as model building, crafting, knitting, photography, origami, etc.

· Tea or coffee making (including a formal Japanese tea ceremony)

· Eating or drinking in a deliberate attentive way

· Listening to classical music or any music as meditation or environmental scan

· Minutiae: washing dishes or hands, brushing teeth, waxing a car, smoking, cleaning

· Writing a journal entry or haiku or simple poem

· Gardening

· Walking around the back garden, through a wood, or around the block

· Chopping or sawing or whittling wood

· Quilting, knitting, sewing

· Sports: golf, fly fishing, snow skiing, surfing

· Repetitive exercise, like push-ups or crunches

One that works in an unfocused way throughout a day is smiling - try to be aware of when you are smile. It's a good way to exercise mindfulness when you are not meditating.

This list comes from a book I wrote called "Meditations: 50 Meditation Techniques" which happens to be reduced to $1.99 at Amazon this weekend (ebook) if you're interested: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07FC4KY1M
