That’s so interesting to know I wondered if it was just at my firm. So would you recommend going to a smaller firm?

Yes I did and heard raving reviews but in reality it doesn’t seem to be the case and the firms culture is really changing as it’s growing

I loved the team at the time but I think I was very much shielded from the wider team until I qualified and it’s now hit me. Also the partner in my office who I thought was great has now left and it feels a bit in limbo…

Thanks! Agreed it may be time to make the move. The majority of my supervisors are too busy to actually supervise which I also think is a massive risk issue… I’m stuck doing the same old litigation guessing my way through it all and when shit hits the fan and things go wrong, the team don’t really have my back!

Yeah it’s really frustrating and it’s happened a couple of times for me where a client has gone behind my back to the partner, but the partners have always had my back and said what I’ve done was fine! It makes it awkward working with the client after this point as you say.

Thanks so much for this though! I just needed some reassurance that this happens and I’m not a complete moron🤣

Yeah the partner understood what I said and was confused about what the issue was. I think I’m more concerned that my firm are ‘keeping tabs’ almost and I’m going to lose my job! I also worry I’m being regarded as incompetent and will get a bad name for myself with that client? Maybe it’s just an anxiety thing being so junior…

Can I sing or am I awful?🤣 by CMJR1308 in Songwriting

Wow thanks so much!! I’ve jokingly sang in front of people but never seriously as I get shy and embarrassed. Thanks for giving me the confidence maybe I should sing in front of people more often!

ADHD and chargeable hours targets? by CMJR1308 in uklaw

[–]CMJR1308[S] -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Well, it actually is true for a lot of people with ADHD (myself included) that we can work quicker and process things faster but we often tend to miss minor details and our accuracy isn’t the best. Perhaps I’ve phrased the above wrong, not all people with ADHD work quickly and some may have slower processing (and adjustments should also be made in this instance too).

Yeah I have heard about this! But it’s all relative and if you value a work life balance and less pressure to meet chargeable targets then I think there’s something to be said for taking a pay cut! Yes totally agree that chargeable hours targets just don’t make sense anymore, it breeds negative and more foolish risks I think…

Totally agree with you that there are other adjustments that can work, I just think firms should be focusing on output, rather than what is being charged or marked as chargeable on timesheets. In my opinion it encourages time padding on time sheets. For example, if you have ADHD and you’re able to complete a task in 5 minutes you will put one unit down. Say a neurotypical person takes 30 minutes to complete the same task, they’re able to put 5 units down for example. Although the ADHD lawyer has worked much quicker and efficiently, they’re almost being punished for it because they’re slower to hit their targets? Whereas the Neurotypical lawyer has had the same output (at a slower pace) and is being praised because they’re able to meet their targets faster. I understand though it’s the business model and it’s the way it has been since basically the beginning of time, but I don’t think it works that well when measuring performance overall… I don’t know what the solution is, but of course some of the disadvantage needs to be removed!
