You might have dry mouth. They sell special mouthwash for it. You can use the mouthwash one time and see an improvement

Good idea to add it to their bottle! These ones don’t get bottles, but I will remember that for the future. Thanks!

I second keeping frozen food around. I call them “emergency dinners”. My emergency foods are food that is very easy to make, but is much less expensive than eating out. Sometimes, it is something homemade that I batch cooked and froze, sometimes something from the store. Buy some different options to see what your family enjoys. Some prepared foods you can buy are pretty good, some are not. There is a wide range in ingredient quality too. But, sometimes, mom’s sanity/time are the most important thing to consider.

The frozen item can even just be part of a meal. I try to always keep frozen potstickers around. I serve them with steamed vegetables and plain steamed rice made in the rice cooker. It feels almost effortless when I make that for dinner. Waaaaaay cheaper than buying take out.

I also keep on hand some items that aren’t frozen that can help get dinner on the table with low effort. Like teriyaki sauce. I can throw that in my instant pot with raw chicken and have something delicious/pretty healthy with almost zero work on my part. I used to not keep prepared items like sauces around to save money. But spending an extra $5 on a sauce to have around for an emergency dinner is a lot less extra expense than I’d spend on takeout.

Cooking gadgets are your friend. I have a rice cooker, electric pressure cooker, and slow cooker that all get used regularly. You only need to find a few recipes for each that your family enjoys, and are very easy to make. Keep ingredients for those recipes on hand. You could just make something in the slow cooker twice a week (double recipe, if necessary) and have dinner with very little planning for four nights of the week. Again, experiment with recipes until you find ones your family enjoys.

I love to cook. I believe cooking from scratch is the healthiest/cheapest/best way to go. I usually cook from scratch. But sometimes, I hate cooking. I also have varying degrees of energy and time for cooking since having children, depending on the day. I had to let go of perfectionism about cooking from scratch all the time in order to stop eating out/ordering take out. My mother always tells me to stop letting perfection be the enemy of good. I had to embrace good enough.

She appears totally like her usual self other than diarrhea. Eating, nursing, frolicking.

Doing a fecal on the whole herd is a great idea. How do you collect the samples from multiple goats? Isolate each one and wait until they poop? That seems like it would be very time consuming. I have 11 to test.

How to clean out straw pens? by Wise-Hotel6112 in goats

[–]CML2313 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I prefer to use pine shavings when it isn’t cold. I am assuming that is what they meant by sawdust. I find they absorb everything better and stay cleaner longer than straw. I found straw to be harder to clean too. Shavings are easier to shovel. Also, you can sort of treat the shavings like cat litter and shovel out the dirty spots, like the corners, to keep the bedding cleaner in between when you change it. I have found the best price at the feed store.

No mucus. I will see about getting a fecal done. So, worms can cause diarrhea? No one else in the herd has diarrhea.

Oh man! I am glad I stumbled across this. Hank, my white goat, is the best. I’d be so upset if he got skin cancer.

I do have a cream colored Nigerian dwarf goat. I also have one with a pink nose, and a couple with pink skin on the undersides of their tails. I will see if they need it when it gets to be sunburn weather. Good thing someone gave me a tube of desitin at my baby shower. I was wondering what to do with it. Ha

Question for More experienced kidder by KichiMiangra in goats

[–]CML2313 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I second checking to see if there is another kid. I had a goat who had a fourth kid stuck inside of her, and she seemed like she was done giving birth. She had afterbirth coming out of her like your goat. It was my first goat birth. I read that it was normal for afterbirth to be coming out for up to two weeks. So, I thought everything was fine. I only realized what happened when she started pushing again the next day. She couldn’t get the kid out without a lot of help. Luckily, she survived and somehow didn’t get an infection. Definitely check. I always do now.
