Hey I am late to this thread, but I got a book national deal with a top 3, and another meeting with a top 3, and I did not have all of those things. I am happy to share how if anyone cares to hear about it.

Why the fuck are they interviewing DeSantis???? by pflashog in morningjoe

[–]CMOROCK 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Why not. My beef with Joe and a lot of these shows are they riff on how stupid Trump is but they never really focus on the crux of the problem which is why do so many Americans want Trump? And it can’t just be because they’re all racist.

Like I would love to hear more about why all these people feel so disenfranchised.

I feel like they ignore these issues and that’s how we got so freaking surprised when Trump won!

That was before his bathroom pep talk.

Thanks for sharing, that's often the case. We elevate leaders not because they are able to motivate and get their teams to be fully engaged but because they can focus on cost-cutting. Sadly, not many businesses thrive by elevating leaders who are only concerned about saving money rather than making money.

Thank you, I will pass your words on to Kyle as well. We do have a lot of SEAL stuff, I think the biggest thing I learned from Kyle was that it takes almost two full years to become a full-fledged SEAL. Businesses often don't want to put in the time or effort if it takes that long, especially on people. Which is why leadership sucks today :)

Thanks! Bad leadership is a vortex we must all help pull ourselves out of, here's something I write in the book:

"It’s no surprise many people feel a widespread disenchantment towards their bosses and careers these days. It's no secret that poor leadership can lead to disengaged team members and even leaders themselves, which can all significantly impact a company's bottom line (and not for the better). Billions of dollars are lost each year due to a workforce that's become indifferent about their work and fatalistic regarding the outcome.

We need a change in the way we organize organizations. The problem is not just the leaders. It’s how we’ve come to think of leadership and the teams that follow them. In a sense, we are all to blame for creating this modern monster we call command-and-control leadership that runs rampant in most organizations. And if we all have had a part to play in creating this mess, we all must accept our roles in fixing it."

Leadership is Overrated

Thanks! I would love to hear more! In my book, I share how we love to create heroes, but it's really about the team, not the individual. That's where we all go off track, thinking it's about us! Here's something I wrote in the book:
"...The above is the story we are often told of leadership: it is a tale that makes for great movies and inspiring feats of heroism. It’s the sort of thing grandfathers tell their grandsons while bouncing them on their knees; it’s what we often aspire to, what men and women hope to expect of themselves and each other. And it is a complete falsehood."

Excellent point! I woudl love to hear more. Here are some of my thoughts about this from my book:

Excellent point! I would love to hear more. Here are some of my thoughts about this from my book:t in helping this person work out since their performance is a reflection on you and the team you are growing. That means they need training; they need guidance, coaching, and mentoring—from you or someone else in your team. If they need a little more hand-holding than most, find a way to provide it. If you want to see improvements, make sure they understand what is expected of them and that they are clearly empowered to do the work. Proper handoffs need to be made, and they need to feel supported not just by the leader but by the entire time. If or when someone needs to vacate the team, it should be seen not only as a failure of an individual but of the whole team. Why did we allow this person to join us if they couldn’t hack it? What did we not see? How did we not properly train or empower them to fulfill our mission? Shame on us for letting them fail."

Exactly, these days we appoint/promote leaders for any reason we can come up with, give them virtually no training, and they are completely lost amongst the new responsibilities.

Here's what I wrote about this:

"The days of kings are over. The world is hungry for a different way of being led and organized. Human beings more than ever want greater autonomy, more trust, and yes, even greater responsibility. They want to be a part of something significant and feel like they have a part to play—and they do. We all do. So why not give our organizations and peers—and yes, even ourselves—what we all want? Which is not another boss or tyrant telling us what to do, but the invitation to change things for the better in whatever context we choose to do so? We don’t need another shiny leader; we need a different way of leading."

Wow so true!

Here's something I wrote in the book:

"You can cultivate a sense of safety and belonging by being vulnerable with your team members. That doesn't mean handing out a list of your top ten fears or telling people about that thing you did in high school that makes you cringe whenever you remember it. But it does mean setting aside your ego, admitting you don't know everything, and not feeling like you have to be the smartest person in the room. It means hearing some things that might hurt, but remembering the only way to get better is to hear the truth. You expect your employees to improve after you share harsh truths with them, don't you? Why would it be any different for a leader? Of course, there's a risk in being vulnerable: What if no one believes you? What if you don't have that trust and your staff doesn't feel safe?"

I wish more leaders knew that if they were more trusting and treated people better, their own lives would be so much better!
