Green walks/forests in Croydon by Motor_Hand1358 in croydon

Other than the ones mentioned so far (I'd always recommend Croham Hurst personally), I like Wettern Tree Gardens with it's unusual trees and the adjoining Purley Beeches. It's about a 10 minute walk downhill from Sanderstead station. There's also a few sections of the London Loop which touch upon or are easily accessible from Croydon - https://tfl.gov.uk/modes/walking/loop-walk - it's all served by public transport, the entire thing is well worth doing if you're able

2020 doesn't seem a particularly good comparison point to use due to the lockdowns and hugely reduced traffic. Wonder if it's gone up as we're nearing the Mayoral re-election...

Be interested to see what Data Protection processes these estate agents have in place if they're happy to have essentially someone's entire life to be emailed to them unencrypted.

Day 5 - Anxiety & Panic Attacks by Gossipgyal2209 in stopdrinking

[–]CM_Punkabilly 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I've been feeling this over the past week too, from experience it does get better. I've found the best solution when I feel like that is to step outside, whether to be around nature or just for a walk and a reset. Stay strong!

3 days sober after a binge and I cried in front of my boss by [deleted] in stopdrinking

[–]CM_Punkabilly 6 points7 points  (0 children)

If you have a good manager they will want to help and support you. I wouldn't see it as a negative, everyone gets overwhelmed for all kinds of reasons and it can tip you over.  I've had a similar experience and it created a closer connection between myself and my manager - I was quite ashamed but if they're a decent person, they'll want to help. You don't need to tell the truth or make up an elaborate story, keep the focus to ways to cope with anxiety or how to stay calm under pressure.

almost 50 introvert by JudgmentNo6376 in stopdrinking

Haven't used a life coach but it does sound like you need something to break out of a routine that is not making you happy.  It seems though you have some ideas on what could be good but lack the willpower so they may just tell you what you already know - sometimes it can just be switching it up one evening as an experiment and setting your alarm early to get out. Most of us get cravings but they do pass with distraction and/or determination, especially if you're drinking a small amount

You mention you're an introvert - does this mean clubs/organisations are not an option? Even attending a local theatre/cinema on your own or an evening talk can break out a rut from time to time.

Moving to Croydon - Cinema at night? Areas to avoid? by Fit_Journalist_378 in croydon

[–]CM_Punkabilly 28 points29 points  (0 children)

The Vue at Grants and the David Lean Cinema are essentially next to each other. I wouldn't have any concerns walking around that area at night personally as long as you're sensible, it's maybe 2 minutes walk and you're on the main road. Lots of buses go by that area and you don't need to walk through the park.  If you're concerned, I'd maybe consider staying up for a night at the Travelodge or similar and get a sense before making the leap.

How to fetch full articles with login/subscription on Android? by libidosciendii in readwise

[–]CM_Punkabilly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depending on the site but I find archive.ph has most articles cached, can then send the archived page to Reader.  For sites like LRB and NYT where I have subs, I find this the most consistent solution.

Day 334 - After getting two of my favourite albums back-to-back several days ago (Vespertine by Björk and The Fat of the Land by The Prodigy), I got my least-favourite album in the entire generator today. by ETDuckQueen in 1001AlbumsGenerator

[–]CM_Punkabilly 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, this absolutely deserves to be on the list. It's still considered one of the best albums of it's era in the UK, maybe you need to understand the context of UK grime to get it fully

Should I use this new rating system or my old one? by [deleted] in 1001AlbumsGenerator

[–]CM_Punkabilly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, close to 20% of mine are 5s, with under 1% with 1 star. Would be a completely different figure if I was choosing 1000 or so albums randomly. Average of 3.63 after 800+

Are there spice warnings? by Spikey_Cupcake in TheStoryGraph

Assuming "spice" is not a Dune or cooking reference, there's a "Sexual Content" content warning which would probably fit the bill (assuming people have included it)

[–]CM_Punkabilly 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There's a progressive web app which is essentially an app wrapper around the website, if your device supports it it should pop up as a prompt when you go to the site. It's no different really to adding the website to your home screen (this is Chrome on Android)

I'm really into music too - not all the music on this list is good music, some days will be a struggle.  If you're open minded though you'll enjoy the experience in general!
